The U District is a strategic location in the City of Abbotsford. The University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) and the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre (AESC) are important economic drivers and transit destinations in the region and will contribute significantly to the growth and diversification of the local economy and a vibrant, mixed-use, amenity-rich community. In addition, the location of the U District adjacent to the McCallum interchange and a primary transit corridor provides excellent visibility and highway access, strengthening the potential for higher intensity land-use in a walkable, transit-oriented urban form.

T

The U District is located to the south of Highway 1, within the City’s Urban Development Boundary. It is approximately 365 acres in size and has a population of over 2,000 residents. The U District has an estimated 165 acres of potential redevelopment land including approximately 30 acres of commercial/mixed use and 112 acres of industrial/institutional/recreational.

Once completed, the U District vision will provide a blueprint for planned and predictable development that supports UFV and the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Center and creates a vibrant neighbourhood that is home to existing and new owners, tenants, businesses and residents.
