The History of PrimoryeThe first inhabitantsappeared in Primoryeabout 45 – 50thousand years ago.

In the second half ofthe 17-th centuryRussian explorerscame to the northernpart of the Ussuri region.

Its area makes1659 thousandsquare kilometers.

Primorye Territory, as the subject of Russian Federation, was formed on October 20, 1938.

INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX The industrial complex is

the most developed sector of the Primorye economy.

Leading are fishery and fish processing, coal mining, forestry and wood-working industry as well as power generation, machine manufacturing, and ship-building.

FORESTRY AND WOOD-WORKING INDUSTRIES

The forest and woodworking forestry industries are the oldest of the Primorye economy.

Their share in the total industrial output is now3,4 per cent. More than three quarters of forestproducts go for export.

The centres of the wood-working industry of Primorye are the towns of Lesozavodsk and

MINERAL INDUSTRY

The mineral industryis represented bya number of enterprises of non-ferrous metallurgy,chemical and mining industries.

The source of raw materials for the non-ferrous metallurgy are the deposits of complex ores lying in the northern districts of Pimorye, as well as the deposits of fluor-spar in the Khorol District

ENGINEERING AND METAL WORKING

• Engineering and metal working belong to the key industries of the Primorye industrial complex.

• Major specialisations: ship-building and ship-repairing, machine manufacturing, Instrument engineering, aircraft construction.

FISH INDUSTRY

The fish industry holds the leading position in the industrial complex of Primorye. It is of great importance not only for the economy of Primorye and the Russian Far East, it has an effect on the economy of the whole country.

AGRICULTURE

•Farming is an important occupation throughout the whole of Primorye. But its major output is concentrated in its southern and south-western parts.

•The largest agricultural producers are the towns of Artyom and Ussuriisk, as well as the Ussuiisk, Spassk, Nadezhdinskoye, Chernigovka, Mikhailovka, Khorol and Khanka Districts.

VLADIVOSTOKEverything is from sea in Vladivostok…

It was in June, 1860 when the militaryship “Mantchur” arrived at the bayZolotoy Rog.

So the post Vladivostok was founded and in future it became a great port and fortress at the Pacific Ocean.

One can tell a lot about this beautiful city but still it is better to see it by yourself.

THE ANUCHINO DISTRICT

•It occupies the southern extremity of the mountain range of Sikhote-Alin.

•It is a taiga district and its specialization is agriculture.

•There is the only State agricultural enterprise in Primorye, “Zhen-Shen” growing gin-seng and other medical herbs.

ARSENYEV• Arsenyev is one of the young Primorye towns.It is named after Vladimir K. Arsenyev, a famous explorer, scientist and writer.

• Today the town has developed aircraft, engineering, metal working, forest and wood working, construction material.

ARTYOM• The town of Artyom lies in the northern part of the peninsula of Muravyov-Amursky.• At first it was a little settlement of minersthat appeared in this area rich in coal. • In 1932 the construction of the Artyom hydroelectric station was started.

BOLSHOY KAMEN

•The town of Bolshoy Kamen lies in the South of Primorye, in the western part of the Ussuriisk Bay.

•The most developed industry is ship repairing, fish processing enterprises including a marine product factory.

THE DALNEGORSK DISTRICT• The Dalnegorsk District lies in the central part of the Sikhote-Alin range. • The ice-free sea port, that is of Rudnaya Pristan, offers favourable conditions for cooperation with the Asia Pacific countries.• The administrative centre of the district is the town of Dalnegorsk.

DALNERECHENSK

The town of Dalnerechensk was founded in 1917.

Wood-working and food industries are basic branches of the local economic activities.

LESOZAVODSK• The history of Lesozavodsk goes Back to 1894, when colonists from Kiev, Chernigov and Poltava Gubernias settled on the picturesque bank of the taiga river Ussuri.

• Lesozavodsk is a centre of the wood-working industry.

NAKHODKA

•It is the second important town of Primorye.It has a developed infrastructure and is connected with other regions of Russia by railways, highways and ship lines.

•Basic industries are marine navigation, ship-repairing and fish-processing.

PARTIZANSK

• In the valley of the Partizanskaya River surrounded by the picturesque hills, there lies a town of Partizansk.• Before the 60s, it was known as the town of coal miners.

• Today it is one of the industrial, cultural and educational centres of Primorye.

USSURIISK

•The history of Ussuriisk began in 1866.•After Russo-Japanese War of 1904-1905 it became one of the most important commercial and economic centres of the Russian Far East.

•Ussuriisk is a cultural and educational centre of Primorye.•It is also a great transport route of Primorye.

THE KHOROL DISTRICT• It lies in the western part of Primorye.• Natural and climate conditions, as well as the relief of the district, determine its being one of the largest agricultural districts of Primorye.

• The Yaroslavsky Integrated Mining and Dressing Works is the largest producer of fluorite concentrate.
