PRIMROSE Silica-Coated Pigments PRIMROSE silica coated pigments are hydrophilic pigments that are ideal for O/W and water-rich systems. The silica coating, with a refractive index similar to human skin, provides a soft focus effect by increasing diffuse reflection. INCI NAME: Silica As the trend towards O/W systems continues, Primrose pigments help overcome some of the typical drawbacks of O/W systems such as gritty feel, weak color development, and wet/dry color stability. As such, formulating chemists will be able to formulate systems with the “fresh” watery feel of O/W systems with the added benefit of soft focus color pigments. Procedure: Heat up #9 and mix with #10 - 12. Confirm all ingredients are dissolved. Mix #13 - #14 and confirm #15 is dissolved. Mix # 15 - #16 and warm up until 80°C while mixing. Confirm #16 is dissolved. Warm up #1 - #3 (oil phase), #4 - #12 (water phase) until 80°C. Add oil phase into water phase and homogenize at 3000 rpm for 5 minutes. Add #13-14 into emulsion while mixing. Cool down untill 50°C while mixing. Add Emulsion and #17-18 into #15-16. Continue to cool down to 35°C while mixing. Degas the bulk.

Procedure: : Heat DI water to about 50⁰C. Once water is heated, add the Carbomer and mix 5 minutes or until dissolved with the homogenizer at 4900 rpm. Next add the Na2 EDTA. Increase the homogenizer speed to 5500 rpms and add the remaining Phase A ingredients. Mix for 10 minutes. Weigh oils and waxes from Phase B in a beaker and heat to 55⁰C. Once waxes have dissolved, add SXI-5 to the mixture and stir to wet out powder. Once powder is incorporated into Phase B, increase homogenizer speed to 6500 rpm. Slowly add Phase B to Phase A. Once fully incorporated, turn off heat and homogenize for 15 minutes. Cool the batch with slow stirring. After 30 minutes, pour into desired bottles.

Procedure: Mix #1 - #5 and heat until 80°C. Mix #7 - #11 and heat up until 80°C. Add #6 with homogenize (3000rpm). Add phase B into phase A with homogenizer and continue to homogenize for 5 minutes. Cool down until 50°C by mixing with hand. Add phase C, D and E by mixing with hand. Cool down until 35°C and degas.

Procedure: : Heat Isododecane to 65°C while mixing with a propeller mixer. Once temperature is reached, add Rheopearl and continue mixing at 500 to 700 rpm. Once Rheopearl is completely dissolved, slowly add pigments and powders and increase speed to 900 rpm. Once completely incorporated cover beaker with plastic wrap and continue mixing for 5 to 7 minutes. Remove from heat and begin pouring into desired container. Leave the lid off of container or if tube filled do not seal tube until concealer is completely cooled. Then close lid tightly or seal tube.
