The Ascension is one of those events in our Christian faith that we look at with both sadness and hope. Sadness because the disciples will no longer be able to be with their friend and teacher, Jesus; but it also brings hope for those looking for the future and meeting Christ in the kingdom of Heaven.

On the Mount of the Ascension, Jesus calls us to be agents of hope and prophets of compassion and peace. We, who have heard the story of Jesus, are now called to bring that hope into the lives of our family and friends, of the poor and forgotten, of the lost and the troubled.

Today, the Risen Christ calls us to continue to grow in His teachings, His works of healing, and His passion, death, and resurrection.

Jesus taught the disciples the responsibility of sharing the Good News with others. For some of us the whole concept of responsibility comes early in life. It may take place when a parent dies and we have to take care of our younger siblings. It may take place when we are given an important project at our job, even if we might have only been there for a short time. It may take place when we become new parents, and a child’s life is placed into our hands. We are given responsibility and we are the reason to hope.

When we celebrate the Ascension, we celebrate more than Jesus returning to His father. It’s a reminder that “with great power comes great responsibility.” That responsibility is not only for the Apostles, but it is for us as well.

In every act of kindness we offer, in every word of encouragement we share, in every moment we listen to another person, we proclaim the Gospel of Jesus.

Every good work is a sign of Christ and a sign of hope in our lives. If we get the opportunity this week, let us try to spend a few minutes in quiet prayer. Ask God to show us one or more ways that we are called to respond to the Good News at work, at school, at home and here at church.

Let us pray that God may give us the courage to be like the Disciples in our own communities. That way we can truly understand that through our faith in Christ we can turn sadness into hope.

NEXT WEEKEND IS THE FEAST OF PENTECOST: PLEASE WEAR RED.

I wish you an enjoyable weekend and a truly blest and faith-filled week.

Chaplet of Divine Mercy This Monday

Prince of Peace offers an opportunity for communal prayer to all who desire to come together to pray for the sick and dying. We hope to create a sanctuary of prayer for all those who find themselves helpless when sickness touches them or their family and friends. In many cases we cannot do much, however, we can pray for our sick and dying as well as for each other. Please join us on Monday, June 3 at 8:15 p.m. The Chaplet will precede Benediction. The Rosary Prayer group invites everyone to come pray the Rosary with

us every Monday at 7:00 pm. It’s a wonderful way for us to join together in prayer for any special intentions you may have, for world peace and for our leader Pope Francis. The Rosary is led by a different ministry each week.

MFL: Denotes Mass for the Living

Our prayers and sympathy to the families of

and the recently departed.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord.

We encourage you to call with the names of family members who are ill and you wish to have remembered in prayer. They will be mentioned in the Petitions in the Sunday Liturgy for one week and then published in the weekly bulletin. In order to respect everyone’s privacy, these names must be given by a family member. Continuing prayer for our loved ones is very important for all involved. Therefore, we ask that you call the parish office and update us on your family member, so that we may maintain a current and meaningful list.

Our next food drive will take place the weekends of June 8-9 and June 15-16 to benefit our Sharing Parish Food Pantry - Most Blessed Trinity in Waukegan. Most needed food items include: Peanut butter & jelly (small jars), Ramen soup, oatmeal packets, small individual cereal boxes, canned tuna/chicken, sugar (small boxes) and cooking oil (any kind—small bottles). Below are non-food items that are especially needed by food pantry clients and that do not often get donated. Any help supplying these would be greatly appreciated! Toilet paper, tooth brushes, toothpaste, shampoo, laundry or dishwashing detergents, soap, diapers & vitamins.

NOTE: small to medium sized bottles of detergents or individually wrapped packages of soap, etc. are the best as they can be distributed to multiple families. Interested in helping? Sorting food, checking expiration dates, boxing up food or delivering the final boxes to Most Blessed Trinity, contact Elizabeth Pitel at [email protected] for more information. Thank you for showing your love by sharing a meal or your time!

In honor of the Feast of Pentecost next weekend,

June 8-9, we ask that you wear red to Mass, if possible.

Thank you!

“Prayer is the best preparation for Holy Communion. Prayer is the raising of the mind to God. When we pray we go to meet Christ Who is coming to us. If our Creator and Savior comes from heaven with such great love, it is only fitting that we should go to meet Him. And this is what we do when we spend some time in prayer.”

~ St. Bernadine of Siena (1380-1444)

Special Intention for June 3, 2019

That the language of love and dialogue may always prevail over the language of conflict.

Plant Sale at the Prince of Peace Rummage Sale

At this year’s Rummage Sale, we will again have a plant sale! If any of you begin to thin your perennials, please consider potting them or placing them in a bag of dirt and dropping them off on June 3, 4 or 5 at the plant table at the school main entrance. We take any kind, such as Hosta, Lily of the Valley, Daylilies, Columbine, Hydrangeas, etc. Labeling your perennials would be very helpful. We also take artificial plants and houseplants. If you have any ornamental outside items, we will take those, too. We could use empty pots of any size, ceramic containers, hanging pots, etc. Last year our parish responded so wonderfully that we sold all but five plants. If you have any questions, please call John or Joan Delisi at 847-265-1016.

Intentionality applies to word choice as well. When you are talking to your spouse, make sure your tone and language reflect love. Avoid accusatory or defensive language and use unique language that lets your spouse know s/he is special.

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, At the center of our faith is the conviction that God loves us and calls us to love one another. God gives us a sign of his love and affection for us in giving us priests who serve as our spiritual fathers. They lead our parishes. They offer us support and encouragement in times of need. So often, without thinking of themselves, they serve with great generosity the people entrusted to their care. Now, this weekend we have an opportunity to express our gratitude for this gift that we have received. We will take up a special collection to support the priests who have supported us across our lifetime. This collection benefits both our active and retired priests and is directed to the Priests' Retirement and Mutual Aid Association (PRMAA). The PRMAA supports our 500 active and 225 retired diocesan priests of the Archdiocese of Chicago. PRMAA provides for the healthcare needs of our active priests as well as the medical and housing needs of our retired priests. This is the only collection that supports the priests of the Archdiocese of Chicago. It is separate and distinct from other initiatives for retired religious order priests, sisters, and brothers. The active priests of the Archdiocese serve throughout Cook and Lake counties by proclaiming the Word of God, celebrating the sacraments, and offering a shepherd's care to our faith communities. Many retired priests continue to serve in their own way and have become indispensable resources for our communities. The health and well-being of all our priests are integral to their ability to work for us and serve our growth in faith. Join me, then, in making a generous contribution to this weekend's second collection to support our priests. Let it be a sign of gratitude to them and to the Lord for the priestly ministry which has benefited all of us.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Archbishop of Chicago

Our second collection next weekend, June 8-9, will benefit the retired diocesan priests of the Archdiocese of Chicago. Your generosity is appreciated.

“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” (Revelation 22:13)

This is a reminder of how we should live our lives 24 hours a day, 7 days a week - putting God first in all that we do. Not only when I am at Mass and parish activities, but when I am in the world, at work or at school. Living gratefully and generously is a lifestyle; it should influence how I make all my daily decisions.

What would you do with the prize? Finish a project, replace an appliance, plan some fun time? Start planning now! You have all the way up until the Golf Outing to purchase balls. We look forward to reaching this goal and raising even more money than last year. Questions? E-mail [email protected].

Supreme Court Sanity

In 2007, the US Supreme Court upheld the federal ban on “partial-birth abortion,” a procedure in which

a child is deliberately killed in the birth process. In that decision, Gonzales vs. Carhart, the majority opinion states, “Respect for human life finds an ultimate expression in the bond of love the mother has for her child…It is self-evident that a mother who comes to regret her choice to abort must struggle with grief more anguished and sorrow more profound when she learns, only after the event, what she once did not know: that she allowed a doctor to pierce the skull and vacuum the fast-developing brain of her unborn child, a child assuming the human form.”

7 Keys to Spiritual Wellness:

Enriching Your Faith by Strengthening the Health of Your Soul

Facilitated by

Catherine Sims, D. Min.

Four Thursday Sessions June 20, 27 and July 11, 18

7:00 - 9:00 p.m.

St. Mary of the Annunciation Parish 22333 W Erhart Rd in Mundelein

Most of us have a pretty good idea of what we need to do to maintain our physical well-being, but how many of us know what we must do to keep ourselves spiritually well? Using the book, “7 Keys to Spiritual Wellness” by best-selling author Joe Paprocki, these sessions will explore a prescription for spiritual health, and reliable strategies for achieving spiritual wellness based on the rich wisdom of Catholic Tradition. Join facilitator Catherine Sims for this four-week series to see Christianity not as a list of rules and doctrine but as a spiritual path to lead us to a more meaningful life and a richer experience of faith.

Registration is required. Find information on the parish website: www.stmaryfc.org

Or by calling the parish office 847-223-0010

Do you have a friend or relative who is pregnant?

Give them the gift of daily prayers for a safe delivery. Fill out a card and place a pink rose in the vase in the Elizabeth Ministry alcove in the church. The Elizabeth Ministers will do the rest.
