As the second year of starting the AIS PSU Chapter, the chapter is still growing at a steady pace in terms of activities, awareness, and members. There are a total of seven officers in our club and a growing number of members thanks to our officer’s dedication to speaking to new and existing students at PSU every time they get the chance to join. Two orientation meetings were held at the beginning of each semester in which members were introduced to officers and upcoming events were discussed. Multiple event were supported by the PSU AIS members and faculty advisor, Dr.Tanzila Saba. We hope to provide a platform of both teaching and learning for members who are interested in information systems or have a desire to learn more about their field. Both students and faculty are welcome at the AIS PSU Student Chapter. Many professors and students are eager to join the chapter thanks to our team’s great efforts at advertising the events and objectives of the chapter.

The PSU AIS chapter has conducted many workshops this

year and are planning to have more next year. This year we have

organized an informative workshop about the IS251 course,

which is called Enterprise Architecture. Members simply

explained what the course included and its applications. Then

discussed how it’s affecting the future of Saudi Arabia if anyone

wants to pursue, as it looks promising. Also we have emphasized

the importance of this course, as it’s the key to a successful

business compared to the current implemented ones, which are

poorly understood and not responsive to change. In this course

you balance between IT expertise and business innovations as the

demand increases in the near future.

Moreover, members have also organized a workshop for AIS Chapter awareness in an interesting

fun way to attract more students to be members of the club, throughout competitions and speaker’s

sessions where they emphasized the role of AIS and how it’s contributing to the IS field worldwide, in

terms of research and teaching. The members explained the benefits of being a member of the AIS

chapter such as access to the AIS Canvas page where all upcoming events, internship and employment

opportunities are available plus some resources to help students prepare for their future career. In

competitions, AIS officers focused on displaying all previous posters, work and projects of current IS

students to compete against each other. Then added some more challenging competitions where

students had to debug and trace some codes. Other competitions focused on best database design

according to certain requirements.

In addition, the PSU AIS chapter has held a session in which Alumni discussed all the different job

opportunities in the IS field and how it’s diverse and not limited to one area, for example graduates can

work in many fields like business, marketing, accounting, IS and system design and analysis. Then the

3

PSU IS alumni provided some advice to undergraduate students on what the job market prefers at the

moment and how to choose elective courses in a way that goes along the market demand and how will

it affect their job opportunities in the future.

The Debate Activity

On Dec 8th 2015, 10 groups from the 2 Ethics 303 sections performed each a 15 min debate under the supervision of Omarine Al Rafie, course instructor, they performed well and were organized and informative. A certain criteria was used to decide upon the best.

The student research and meet and formulate discussion materials, later they submit a preliminary document with (with and against) arguments and perform a trial debate in class with their course colleagues as attendees. Once they grasp the debate skills required then they perform the official debate in front of a larger audience. Students learn how to be convincing and achieve many learning outcomes and communications and interpersonal skills.

CCIS Colloquium Seminar Series

To accelerate the research environment in CCIS, the colloquium seminar series is stared on the suggestion of Respectable CCIS Dean Dr.Jarallah Saleh Al-Ghamdi. The main objective of these series is to bring the worth faculty member on one platform to share their research accomplishment which will assist for research collaboration in future among the Ph.Ds and Non-Ph.Ds. The master student are also the focus of these seminars to develop their confidence and presentation skills.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

MASAR

The transition from being a high school student to a college student is an important step. Anyone who has already taken this step would know the amount of anxiety and stress they had to go through. What do I want to be? What am I good at? Also, and the most important question: how do I know which major

offers the best for me?

Masar is a pre-college program organized and planned by the students of the Project Management course, IS361,(AIS members) during the year 2016 supervised by Ms. Nafla Alkahtani and sponsored by Dr. Rimah Al-Yahya, Vice Rector of College of Women, Prince Sultan University. It will construct a bridge to the answers of those questions that haunt every high school student’s mind. Masar aims to give high school students a crash course of each major offered by Prince Sultan University, allowing the students to explore, with their own senses. Masar provided the students with enough knowledge and help them discover the path they will like to pursue in the future.

The program also aims to provide hands-on experience to the students, hoping to provide them with the insight into the major and allow them to explore it from several angles. The program was launched at the 3rd of April and commenced to the 19th of April. The closing ceremony took place on the 20th of April where the high school students registered in the program graduated from the Masar program and obtained their certificates as proof of their commitment. Moreover, a networking event, which took place in the main lobby on the Women’s Campus, displayed the majors offered by Prince Sultan University, further allowing the high school students family and friends to understand Masar’s commitment for the future of the students.

Positive feedback was obtained by high school students indiciating that they enjoyed the workshops and the college experience they gained. Some even conveyed that they are now considering majors that they never thought they would be interested in. Others were thankful for the experience and they mentioned they have learned and have grown with Masar. Now, they have a better perspective of their future.

The ladies presented the amazing project on closing ceremony which were highly appreciated by higher management as well the sponsors-Intel Company and Bank Aljazira Bank appreciated our student hard work and dedication. Student were awarded the certificates from Intel Company and Plaque was awarded to supervisor Dr.Tanzila Saba. This project was a part of course and it proved highly beneficial to create the team work environment, leadership qualities, confidence and interpersonal skills in the students. The student were interviewed by the Intel Company and they will publish this as an article in the Intel Journal. he Intel Company one of the sponsor of this Intel highly appreciated & spotlight this work in an article: http://iq.intel.sa/ Additionally, on 25th April there was a meeting with a Turkish executive, Çiğdem Ertem (Regional President for the Middle East, Turkey and Africa Region) who was interested to hear about Mishkat and she was highly impressed with the students demonstration and success stories of this project. Hopefully this will be a great opportunity to have them as strategic sponsor for next Mishkats.

We are heartily thankful to Ms.Fatin Almobarak, Director of the Community Service office, for her trust for providing this opportunity to us to work in this project. Sincerely thanks to Ms Muneerah Al- Dhubaiban, Coordinator of the Community Service office for her continuous support and guidance.

Future Link 3

The event is a sequel of many Future link Events that we have done in the last few years.

In response to the needs for students to communicate with our alumni and to benefit from their market experience and to bridge the gap between academic preparation and the market need. We have planned and our valuable Alumni who are at present holding high positions in the market, met students from IS, CS, PYP and many other majors in the College for women. This poster was advertised by this designed flyer all over the university’s campus as well as our social media accounts (both Twitter and Instagram).

Connect! Event Flyer:

In Prince Sultan University, the COOP program is done through the COOP office. However, students have expressed some difficulties in promoting themselves to the companies around the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. As a result, and with the help of the COOP office, the AIS chapter decided to hold a networking-based exhibition to highlight their most prominent projects throughout their college life. The students will be able to present their projects to company’s representatives in an interactive, professional manner, which will show the experiences they gained and the knowledge they have acquired while working on these project.

The goal of this exhibition is to allow the companies to select prospective COOP students for their industry. Moreover, the mission is to raise the awareness of PSU students’ capabilities - both technical, adaptive and interpersonal skills. The planning of this event is undergoing for next semester (2016 - 2017). The reason is to permit PSU’s seniors to categorize what projects they would want to present during the summer vacation. Moreover, since the COOP semester would begin in the second phase of the year, holding the event next semester would be fruitful and more effective for both the seniors and companies.
