Principal News I hope families enjoyed having their children home on Monday, our Curriculum Day. Teachers have been very busy

working with students on assessment of academic progress and beginning the formal mid-year report writing process.

Staff have been providing excellent teaching and learning programs this year and supporting our students to reach their

    individual potentials.

A lot of work was also down around our buildings and grounds on Curriculum Day. Thank you to staff who assisted with

this. Mrs. Suzy Shaw and Mr. Stuart Hattwell participated in training as School Anaphylaxis Supervisors. Their

responsibilities now include verifying all staff have undertaken the appropriate anaphylaxis training and can correctly use

an adrenalin autoinjector device as well as providing twice yearly anaphylaxis briefings for staff.

SAUSAGE SIZZLE - A Sausage Sizzle lunch has been planned for Tuesday 7th June.

Proceeds of this fundraiser will assist the school to upgrade some of the outdoor areas

around the school. Order forms are available at the office and are also on Tiqbiz. Parents

can pay for this special sausage sizzle lunch order via Qkr! Orders must be received by

9.30am on Thursday 2nd June (no late orders can be accepted).

BILLY-CART INCURSION – What a very exciting incursion our Year ones and twos had last week. They were

involved in hands-on workshops and had to assemble billy-carts as part of their unit of study on “Transport”. They learnt

lots about technology and using tools, nuts, bolts, wheels and wood. They even were able to ride in the billy-carts

    afterwards.

PREP MARKET INCURSION – Last Friday our Prep students

went on an excursion to Dandenong Market. They were

exploring food and other produce as part of their unit of study on

“Food”. This was an excellent opportunity for language

experience and to further develop vocabulary.

    Term Dates 2016

    T2 ends 24th June

    T3 begins 11th July

    T3 ends 16th September

    T4 begins 3rd October

    T4 ends 20th December

  • WALK SAFELY TO SCHOOL DAY – Friday 20th May – Many of our students took the opportunity of

walking to school, all or part of the way on Friday on Walk To School Day. Now in its 17 th year, the National

Walk Safely to School Day is an annual event, when all primary school children are encouraged to walk and

commute safely to school. This is a community event seeking to promote Road Safety, Health, Public

    Transport and the Environment.

TENNIS REGIONAL FINAL—Last week our two Division tennis winners, Rhys and Savneet, played at the

Regional finals. The level of competition was very strong and both boys played extremely well. Rhys was in pool A and he won 2

out of his 5 matches while Savneet in pool B won 3 of his 5 matches. This is a fantastic achievement and places both boys within the

top 15 strongest tennis players across all eastern metropolitan Melbourne primary schools. Congratulations to both boys on such an

    outstanding effort.

EDUCATION WEEK – Thank you to parents who visited our school last week during Education Week. This was an opportunity to

visit your child’s classroom and view the technology that is being integrated into the curriculum. Mrs. Mann gave a talk on “How

much screen time is too much?” This presentation will be made available to all families. Our major open day will occur during

Literacy and Numeracy Week, a bit later in the year when we will have much more happening in that special week!! Please

remember that you are welcome to visit your child’s classroom at any time – just have a talk with the teacher.

Have a good weekend Liz Watkins

    **FROM THE OFFICE**

Are your contact details up to date?

If you have moved, changed jobs or changed phone numbers recently please make sure

you let our office know so we can keep our details up to date. In the event of your child

being ill or injured it is important we are able to contact a parent or care giver as soon as

    possible.

Have you provided us with your child’s

    Immunisation Status Certificate?

By law, your child must have an immunisation status certificate to enrol in primary school.

What is an immunisation status certificate?

It is a statement showing the immunisations your child has received. By law, you must provide an immunisation status certificate to the primary school when enrolling your child. If your child has not received any immunisations, you must still provide a certificate. The school keeps a copy of the certificate so that, in the event of a disease outbreak, unimmunised children can be quickly identified and excluded from school until the risk of infection has passed.

If we do not have a copy of your child’s certificate, their

immunisation status is recorded as unknown and they will be

excluded from school in the event of a disease outbreak.

Individual letters will be sent home to families who have not

provided certificates. If you receive this letter please ensure you

provide the requested certificate as soon as possible.

  • Hi Everyone Over the past two weeks the children have been involved in many interesting activities, which have helped them

to enhance their overall developmental skills. During art and craft we made beautiful pictures with rocking boat

using a variety of natural colours. This is now displayed in the middle room and looks great. We also made jelly

fish with felt material and stuffing, the children enjoyed sewing the fish and decorating them with googly eyes

and smiley faces. In science we experimented making the strongest bridge. The children worked in two teams

and were encouraged to work collaboratively to design and form the strongest bridge. The bridges were put under

a safety test, Faiza's team passed the safety test, hence it held the heaviest items and proved to be the strongest

one. Well done Faiza and team!

The children also loved designing and painting egg potato head, which looked sensational. On Friday we cooked

yummy pasta on the children's request. The children were also engaged in several physical games such as: ball

line tiggy, relay, dodge ball, revenge, octopus, tennis and the funny game, Grandma's undies, which was quite

hilarious. We also enjoyed building with magnetic blocks, solving puzzles, designing with hama beads, role

playing as a teachers and students, drawing and many more.
