Professional Development • Be active in a professional organization, e.g. Principals’ Association Participate in professional development activities • Facilitate the professional development of staff 6. THE NOMINATION PROCESS1. The following persons are permitted to nominate teachers and principals: a. Teaching colleagues b. Students c. Parents d. School Board i) For Principals – School Board Chairman ii) For Teachers – Any Member of the School Board e. Education O�cers f. Any teacher or principal can nominate him/herself

2. Fill out the nomination form attached and submit the completed form to the School O�ce. Additional forms are also available on LASCO’s website www.lascojamaica.com and www.moe.gov.jm

3. Teachers and Principals must submit the following documents with their nomination forms to qualify : a. Evaluation forms: i) For Principals – Evaluation form completed by the School Board Chairman ii) For Teachers – Evaluation form completed by any of the following: Principal, Vice Principal, Head of Department, Grade Supervisor, Education O�cer b. Performance Appraisal: i) For Principals – Performance Appraisal Report ii) For Teachers – Performance Appraisal Report accompanied by a short typed letter of recommendation from the principal on the school’s letterhead c. A short typed resumé showing educational quali�cations, teaching experiences, activities and achievements

THE SELECTION PROCESSa. The documents submitted for each nominee will be evaluated quantitatively and qualitativelyb. Candidates will be asked to submit a written proposal outlining: • The candidate’s concept of the roles and responsibility of the Teacher or Principal of the Year • How the Teacher or Principal of the Year will assist in the development of education in Jamaica (No more than 500 words)c. Nominees will be short-listed and the selected candidates will be visited at their schools for further evaluationd. Finalists will be interviewed by a panel. The Teacher and Principal of the Year will then be selectede. In addition to the top award of Teacher and Principal of the Year, sectional prizes will be awarded to other outstanding candidates NOTE: As a condition of the award the Teacher and Principal of the Year are required to participate in various professional development activities hosted by the Ministry of Education Youth & Information and LASCO A�liated Companies
