Principal’s chat
Today we welcomed Melissa Usher to our team at Maldon. Melissa is
replacing Alisa in the grade prep/1 classroom. Melissa is very excited to
be working at Maldon and is keen to get to know you all, so pop in and say
hi!!
Alisa will be spending the next two weeks supporting Melissa in the
classroom, however most of her time will be spent in the office where I will
be passing on my pearls of wisdom before I take leave on August 18th.
Alisa is looking forward to taking over the role of principal and leader.
This Wednesday we will be holding parent teacher interviews from 9:00am
- 6:00pm. If you haven’t already done so then please return your form
indicating your attendance/non-attendance as soon as possible.
As discussed in last week’s newsletter, information in regards to the
Parent Opinion Survey will be sent home to every family today. The letter
contains a link to the online survey and any other information that you may
need to know. Please remember that the survey provides the school with
useful information for future planning so we would appreciate you taking
the time to complete it. The survey is open between Monday 7th August
and Friday 27th August.
Last Friday we welcomed our visitors from
Japan. Despite the very cold weather
everyone had a fun day filled with activities
and excitement. I am very proud of how all of
our students represented our school on the
day. A very big well done to Tia and Isaac
who read their speech in Japanese. They had
spent many hours practising at school and
home. Some of our other students were also
able to practise their Japanese language
skills thanks to the work that they do each
week with Jaimee.
A big thank you to Nicole and her team of
helpers in the kitchen– the food was delicious.
Also thank you to all the parents who braved
the cold and helped out with the tabloid
sports. The day cannot run without
volunteers and your support is very much
appreciated.
Here are some thoughts from Grade 4/5
students about Japanese Day:
Liam A – It was awesome to meet our

Japanese buddies and to
make new friends. I was
able to say some words
in Japanese to my buddy
and my buddy mostly
spoke English so she
was easy to understand.
Georgia – I found the
day really fun because
we did lots of games and
I really enjoyed the train
ride. I liked opening gifts from my buddy and learning about Japan.
Amabel – I enjoyed meeting my buddies and getting to know them. I
also liked learning about Japan. I learnt about how they live. Both of my
buddies live in small houses.
Alannah – I liked it when we did all the games and activities because I
got to do them with my buddies. I loved the train ride because I learnt
more about my buddies and was able to see all their wonderful gifts.
We are currently in week three of the CASEA Program. The focus this week is on assisting the children to recognise when they are feeling upset so that they can then stop and think about what is happening and how they can manage a situation by using “STOP, THINK, WHAT’S MY PLAN?
Warm regards,
Jodie
