February is an exciting month for us at Saxony Luther-
an High School. We will have our winter drama pro-
duction and our open house on Sunday, February 11,
2018. Our students in grades 9 – 11 will begin course
selection for the 2018-19 school year. We will cele-
brate National FFA Week beginning on February 17.
On Saturday, February 24, 2018, we will have our an-
nual Dinner Auction, which is the single most im-
portant fundraising activity of the year. There is addi-
tional information for all of these activities in this
newsletter.
While providing information about all of the exciting
things happening at Saxony is one of my great joys, I
must admit that my heart hurts as I write this after
hearing of the tragic event in nearby Marshall County.
The senseless act of violence that took the lives of two
students and injured many others has shaken all educa-
tors to the core. We ask that everyone pray for those
families affected by this horrific act. As Christians, we
know that only God can comfort us in these troubled
times. I am comforted by the words of our Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ in John 14:27 “Peace I leave with
you, my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I
give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let
them be afraid.” Also, these words from Psalm 55:22
“Cast your burden on the Lord and He will sustain you;
He will never permit the righteous to be moved.”
I pray God’s peace and blessing to everyone!
In His Service,
Mark Ruark

School Notes:
Honoring a Saxony Hero
We would once again like to extend our appreciation to Mindy and Scott Dilsaver for traveling to
Saxony from Iowa to be recognized for their efforts to save the life of senior Trae Robinson who col-
lapsed while playing AAU basketball last summer. It was through that story that Saxony received
an additional AED machine to be used at our outdoor activities and while traveling. Thank you to
Perry County Orthopedics & Sports Medicine as well as Dr. Joseph Byrne for the generous donation!

From the desk of Ms. Fuchs:
What a crazy start to our new semester! Snow days, illnesses, and activities have made it challeng-
ing to keep up with classes. Parents, please check PlusPortals frequently with your students, and
encourage them to make up missing work as soon as possible. If you have questions, help your
child work with their teachers, and ask the homeroom teacher for help if necessary.
Planning for 2018-2019
Although the second semester has barely begun, we are starting the process of preparing for the
2018-19 school year. In February, we will be using Crusader Time and some class periods to guide
sophomores and freshmen as they choose their classes for next year. In order to help parents un-
derstand the options and help students make good choices, we are hosting the Freshman and Soph-
omore Parent Nights on February 13 and 15 at 7 pm in the Moeller Commons.
At these identical programs, I will review graduation requirements, course options for next year
and the remaining years at Saxony, and provide information about post-high school planning. We
will also have guests from the Southeast Missouri State University Dual Credit Office and the Cape
Girardeau Career and Technical Center to answer questions about their programs.
In order to help us plan for these events, please let me which you are planning to attend. Everyone
is welcome to attend, and I will have personalized information ready for those who sign up in ad-
vance. Go to this form by February 9 to sign up.
Junior ACT
All Saxony juniors will take the ACT on February 27. We will begin during first period and finish
around noon. All registration and fees are already taken care of!
Tuesday Updates
Please be sure to look for my weekly emails with lots of up-to-date information for you—
scholarships, summer programs, special events, and more!

Re-Enrollment – Online!
Parents of current students, be on the lookout for an email with a link to a personalized student re-enrollment form for 2018-2019. All students’ adult contacts that have provided an email for the school database will receive this re-enrollment email. This form only needs to be completed once.

Technology:
PlusPortals A few key points regarding PlusPortals.
As of January 10, access to your student’s digital office report card is available for viewing and
printing from the Report Card menu option visible after logging into PlusPortals. This re-
port will be available until the end of the school year, when the next grade report is com-
plete.
Select Second Grading Period in the dropdown menu and only classes for 2nd semester will be
visible.
Identifying a 2nd semester class: to make sure you are clicking the correct class for the
semester, for example, in the course list above, the student has Algebra1 both semesters,
both during 2nd hour (B). The course number for 2nd semester classes (not 100% of the
time I have learned, but it’s rare) end with a 2 before the slash (0412/22).
When using the “Classes”, “Lesson Plans”, or “Scores” menu options, you will need to identify
the correct course for the current semester.
