Issue 44 Term 2- Week 5, 2013 Principal’s Message Cross Country Carnival Our carnival at Joe Broad Reserve was a great success last week. Unfortunately I was unable to aend but I have heard excellent reports of enthusiasc parcipaon by all students. There was also great support by the many parents who aended, either to assist as stewards or lend their support. Thank you very much. Your support is greatly appreciated. Thank you also to all staff who made the day a success and especially to Miss Ngov and Miss Strickland for their tremendous organisaon. Best of luck to all our athletes represenng our schools at this weeks PSSA Zone Carnival. I know you will do a great job. Play Day In week 2 students in 1/2B and Kindergarten participated in a full day drama workshop. The students and teachers are now working hard to perfect their items for the ‘Play Day’ in week 9. Many skills are learnt by participating in Play Day. Students gain confidence in speaking and listening, extend their imagination and develop their drama and performance skills. We look forward to the up coming performances. Stage 3 Leadership Camp Stage 3 will be out at camp next Monday and Tuesday aſter having to postpone camp in week 4 due to rain. This camp involves lots of outdoor acvies so we hope the weather will be fine for next week and you return with camp stories to share with us. Student Safety There are some very serious issues regarding student safety I would like to address. Please read below carefully. Car Park NO PARENTS OR STUDENTS ARE TO ENTER OR LEAVE THE SCHOOL VIA THE CAR PARK GATES. There was a recent incident whereby a very young student, accompanied by a parent, ran across the car park as a car was driving through. Fortunately the car was driving very slowly and was able to stop, but this could have been an awful accident. All access at the front of the school is to be via the two pedestrian gates. Pedestrian Crossing ALL STUDENTS MUST CROSS TARLINGTON PARADE AT THE PEDESTRIAN CROSSING. Some parents are collecng their children and crossing the road a maer of meters from the pedestrian crossing. This is not only dangerous but also sets a poor example for children to follow. I urge all parents to escort their children to the crossing to reinforce our messages regarding good safety. Principal’s Message Cross Country Carnival Our carnival at Joe Broad Reserve was a great success last week. Unfortunately I was unable to attend but I have heard excellent reports of enthusiastic participation by all students. There was also great support by the many parents who attended, either to assist as stewards or lend their support. Thank you very much. Your support is greatly appreciated. Thank you also to all staff who made the day a success and especially to Miss Ngov and Miss Strickland for their tremendous organisation. Best of luck to all our athletes representing our schools at this weeks PSSA Zone Carnival.

Stage 3 Leadership Camp Stage 3 will be out at camp next Monday and Tuesday after having to postpone camp in week 4 due to rain. This camp involves lots of outdoor activities so we hope the weather will be fine for next week and you return with camp stories to share with us.

Student Safety There are some very serious issues regarding student safety I would like to address. Please read below carefully.

Car Park

NO PARENTS OR STUDENTS ARE TO ENTER OR LEAVE THE SCHOOL VIA THE CAR PARK GATES.

Some parents are collecting their children and crossing the road a matter of meters from the pedestrian crossing. This is not only dangerous but also sets a poor example for children to follow. I urge all parents to escort their children to the crossing to reinforce our messages regarding good safety.

Parents in Wings PARENTS SHOULD NOT BE IN CLASSROOM WINGS IN THE MORNINGS AND AFTERNOONS Parents bringing children to school or waiting to collect children in the afternoon must do so in the top quad. Please do not go into the wings. This is a safety issue as we need to know the identity and purpose of anyone inside the school buildings. If you need to attend school during school hours it is vital that you first go to the office where you can sign in and receive a visitor’s badge. I trust you will understand the importance of these safety procedures. Our school places the safety of our children at the highest possible level, and I thank you for your consideration and support.

Regards, Peter Ward News and Information Preschool waiting list forms for 2014 are now available from the front office. You need to provide your child's birth certificate and proof of address.

Assembly will be on next Monday from 2.30 to 3pm. Principal’s awards will be handed out in week 8 at our special ‘Books in Homes’ assembly. The Principal’s movie reward has been booked for Week 9 this term. All absences must be explained with a note. If your child is away due to sickness or family leave please provide a note on their return to school. If your child is away for more than 2 days please inform the school by phone and provide a note on their return to school.
