Principal’s Message I was very proud of our large cohort of students at the Small Schools Swimming Carnival last Friday. All of our students showed good manners and great sportsmanship, swimming their very best in a wide variety of events. Blandford Public School took out five of the age championships as well as the overall shield which was very exciting. Congratulations to: Junior boy champion—Brady, Junior girl champion—Kandice, In- termediate girl champion—Tyler, Senior boy champion— Cameron, Senior girl champion—Stella. Our senior mixed relay team: Stella, Tyler, Edward and Camer- on also won their event. We wish these students the best of luck as they swim the PP5 relay event in the Zone carnival this Thurs- day, along with a small group of individual swimmers. The infants students also enjoyed slipping and sliding, water fights and bubbles with Mrs Cooper on Friday afternoon, finishing a busy, active week. A big welcome to our new family. Kerry and Andy Axon who have moved to the district. Ezra and Seth have settled in well to the senior classroom. We are very grateful to the Roads and Maritime Services (previously the RTA), for resealing our service lane and car park. Hopefully the extra fill will prevent the infamous large puddle from forming at the gate during heavy rain. We have had all buildings at school including the cubby and sports shed sprayed for spiders last week. This ensures a safe learning environment for our students and staff. I attended a training day this Tuesday for Learning and Support staff as part of the Every Student Every School initiative. We discussed the needs of our students, investigating ways to assist with planning for improvement in all aspects of school with partic- ular emphasis on literacy and numeracy. I am attending the In- vermein Small Schools meeting today in Scone. Thank you to Mrs Crowe for working with the Y3-6 class yesterday. On behalf of the staff, students and families of Blandford Public School I extend our condolences and wishes to Mrs Jennifer Bet- tington and family, and Ms Karen Doig and family, on their recent sad bereavements.

Congratulations to:

Junior boy champion—Brady, Junior girl champion—Kandice, In-termediate girl champion—Tyler, Senior boy champion—Cameron, Senior girl champion—Stella.

Our senior mixed relay team: Stella, Tyler, Edward and Camer-on also won their event. We wish these students the best of luck as they swim the PP5 relay event in the Zone carnival this Thurs-day, along with a small group of individual swimmers.

We discussed the needs of our students, investigating ways to assist with planning for improvement in all aspects of school with partic-ular emphasis on literacy and numeracy. I am attending the In-vermein Small Schools meeting today in Scone. Thank you to Mrs Crowe for working with the Y3-6 class yesterday.

On behalf of the staff, students and families of Blandford Public School I extend our condolences and wishes to Mrs Jennifer Bet-tington and family, and Ms Karen Doig and family, on their recent sad bereavements.

Intensive Swimming

Intensive swimming lessons will finish this Friday 22nd February. We have noticed a great improvement in skills and confidence over the ten days of this program and thank parents for organising swimming gear each day.

A big thank you also to our P&C for funding our daily bus trips to Murrurundi.

Canteen Day at the Pool this Friday 22nd February

As is usual, students may bring a maximum of $4 each on Friday to spend at the pool can-teen. Please send this money with your own child in a purse or ziplock bag. They will be responsible for their finances and the big decisions about what to purchase.

REMINDERS

* If someone else is collecting your child or children from school, please remember to let a staff member know in advance. A note or phone call is necessary for our records.

* Remember also that the office phone is unattended on Fridays and every second Tuesday, with phone messages often not collected until after the bus has left. Thanks for your help with this.

* Our new glass topped table in the office has the red sign out book easily accessible. If you are collecting your child early from school, or are arriving after morning assembly, please assist us by completing the sign in sheets.

HUNGRY HUNGRY CHILDREN

Mrs Cooper and I have noticed some of our students eating their lunchtime sandwich at re-cess. They may then not have enough food left for lunch. Please talk with your children about their food requirements and pack a little extra. We have fruit break around 10.00am, morning tea at 11.15am and lunch at 1.00pm. Water bottles can be brought into class and are freely available during the day.

PSST!!

Children, please let Dad know that the Mother’s Day stall at school will be on again soon. Don’t tell Mum.

Pancake Day

A delicious morning tea of freshly flipped pancakes is always a joy, and Blandford students really enjoyed their traditional Pancake Day celebrations last week.

Thankyou to parents who sent the pancake mixes, jams, butter, plates, nutella and lemon and sugar (my favourite). Thanks also to the band of volunteer mums, nans and granddads who cooked a huge mountain of pancakes in a variety of places around our school for the hungry hordes.

Mrs Cooper and our Year 6 leadership team counted all donations which totalled $80. Year 6 have made a great selection of purchases from the World Vision website to assist commu-nities around the world.

We raised $66.40 and Ms Fox rounded it to $80 for World Vision. We bought:-

Chickens & eggs $10

Fast growing seeds $10

School pencils $5

Fish Farm $25

Emergency Water $30

Library News

We have started the year eager to borrow. Tuesday is library day for K-2 and Thursday and Thursday for 3-6. If the children bring along a library bag they can borrow up to 3 books. When they bring their books back they can enter into the Library Reading Stars Competi-tion, so don’t forget to bring the books back.

Parent Interviews Short parent interviews will be conducted in the final two weeks of this term. This is a chance for parents and teachers to have general discussions about work habits and class programs and any problems or queries which may have arisen. If you have any major is-sues please make a longer appointment with your class teacher. An interview timetable will be attached to the Week 6 newsletter.

Farewell Tuck Flyer attached. Tickets are available from Blandford General Store, Seckold’s Butchery, Murrurundi Newsagency, Murrurundi Post Office, Royal Hotel, Murrurundi Pool. Please purchase tickets by Tuesday, 26th February, 2013, to assist with catering. Zone Cross Country Zone Cross Country is on at Muswellbrook on 5th April, so start training!
