Year 7 Entry to a Selective High School in 2020

Message for Year 5 parent/carers Selective high schools cater for high achieving academically gifted students who may otherwise be without sufficient classmates at their own academic and social level. These schools help gifted and talented students to learn by grouping them with other gifted and talented students, teaching them in specialised ways and providing educational materials at the appropriate level. Applications for selective high school placement are considered mainly on the basis of the Selective High School Placement Test results and school assessment scores. The Selective High School Placement Test will be held on Thursday 14 March 2019. If you would like to have your child considered for Year 7 selective high school entry in 2020, you need to apply on the internet using a valid email address (not the student’s email address). Detailed instructions on how to apply online will be available from mid-September 2018 at https:// educa-tion.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-7. The application website opens at that link on 9 October 2018 and closes on 12 November 2018. You must apply before the closing date. There are no paper application forms. If you do not have internet access, you could apply at a public library. If you have a disability that prevents you from using a computer, you can contact the Unit for assistance after 9 October 2018. You must submit only ONE application for each student.

Deputy Principal’s Report

This year, it was pleasing to see an increase in the number of students sitting the ICAS English and mathematics tests. The English test results have been received and photographed here are the students who received their certificate at this morning’s assembly. Well done to our students for displaying determination and congratulations to our high award recipients.

During the school holidays please keep your eye out for any sign of vandalism or inappropriate behaviour in the school grounds. If you notice anything suspicious please ring the security hotline on 1300 880 021 or Sutherland police on 9542 0899. Your support continues to protect our valuable assets.

Letters are regularly sent home to parents of students who have unexplained absences. Please return these notes to your child’s teacher or the office, with an explanation, as soon as possible. Attendance and success at school go hand in hand. All students are required to attend school by law unless there is a valid reason for absence. The school needs to be notified of any absences in writing the day the student returns to school. Approval for absences of periods in excess of five days, such as an extended family holiday, needs to be applied for prior to leave being granted. Application for extended leave forms are available on the school website or can be obtained from the school office.
