Board of Trustee News Over the next two terms we are planning to convert half of our existing Resource Room into two office spaces to make room for small group work. It is fantastic to have a growing roll but as a result we have allocated every extra space throughout the school. We look forward to completion of this project well before the end of the year.

Thank you to all the parents and students who supported our participa-tion in the ANZAC Parade. It was a very memorable service.

This week all our students will be starting their second round of opportu-nities on Friday. This will run for ten weeks. Some of the choices on offer are: Production, Journalism, Chess, Science Fair Club, Cake Decorating, Photography, Sports, Minecraft, Debating, Band Quest and many more. Please talk with your child about their choice, so you know what extra curricular activity they are involved in.

Next week you child will be bringing their Reading book home to share with you. Please feel free to communicate your feedback on our insert sheet. We have included an information sheet on the Reading and Writ-ing Standards that link to our midyear report. This will be further dis-cussed at our 3-way conferences later in the term. These will be held on Thursday 25 June so mark it on your calendar, we really want to see you here.

Chess Club Interview The Chess Club is one of the many opportunities we have at Rosehill. Last term we did a short interview with some of the

students that come on a daily basis to the Chess Club. We asked them a few questions….

How often do you come to the Chess Club?

Everyday at lunchtimes

Why did you join the chess club?

Because I've always enjoyed playing chess and it’s fun

You have to out think your opponent

Because it’s challenging and helps me to focus on things

When did you start playing chess?

When a Principal from a different school showed me how to play it.

When my Dad showed me once and from there I have loved playing it

When I came to Rosehill Intermediate and I didn’t have much to do so I gave it a go

Mrs Metge thoughts on chess:

She loves to teach students how to play chess. In her spare time she also loves playing chess. She enjoys seeing a room

full of enthusiastic chess players having a go. So she welcomes all students who wish to play chess.

Council News We will be having a mufti day next Thursday to raise money for the people of Nepal. Stu-dents who wish to wear mufti need to bring a gold coin. Thank you for your support.

Food Technology

In Food Technology, students have enjoyed making a range of products to develop their skills.

While the Year 7’s have been planning and creating cafe style foods, Year 8’s have been planning

and creating Fusion Kai.

Quick, easy and simple recipes are used to encourage all students to have a go at cooking and most impor-tantly enjoy the food experience

Warehouse Takanini

Thanks to the amazing generosity of The Warehouse Takanini we are now $1856.50 richer. Our school was presented with a cheque for $1856.50 from the Warehouse Takanini. Over the next two weeks the school council will be running a survey to get student feedback as to what we should purchase with this money.

Meeting for Maori and Pacifica Parents

This Thursday Miss Brooks and her team are holding a hui for our Maori and Pacifica par-ents. It is just a short meet and greet and everyone is invited. 6:00 - 6:30 in the staffroom.

Open Day Thursday 28 May - 9.30am to 2.30pm

Auckland Girls’ Grammar School welcomes enrolments from students throughout Auckland. You are warmly

invited to visit our school. Parents and students will be taken on guided tours between 9.30am – 2.30pm and find out

about all the opportunities that the school offers.
