NHPS has an extensive computer program. Interactive White Boards (IWB) Each classroom has an Interactive White Board which is an engaging and exciting teaching tool. Information from the computer can be displayed on the large screen on the wall. Teachers can design lessons or use lessons and activities that have already been designed to target a teaching focus. The activities can be interactive which means students can move things on the screen, write on the screen and type on the screen. The IWB is a brave new world that has replaced the existing chalkboards as a means of displaying work for students. It is in colour and it moves and students are totally engaged with it. Computer Room Each week students in all classes have at least 1 hour of computer time under the instruction of our computer specialist teacher. Students are learning computer skills that they will need in later life. Connected Classroom Our Connected Classroom is in the process of being installed into the new Library. The Connected Classroom is a way to contact people all over the world. Students at NHPS could speak to students in a school in England. Students can access world-wide events as they happen. They can have a virtual visit to Antarctica or the Moon.

    Special Feature - Computers

Also staff can use it for Professional Development by being a part of a conference held in Sydney or even overseas. Students in the High School are using it to access subjects that are not available at their local school. So it is the virtual classroom where their teacher and fellow students can be in other centres. This will be, a much used device in the school which has the potential to open our young students eyes to the rest of the world without leaving Nambucca Heads. Classroom computers and bank of lap tops Students have access to computer technology in classrooms. The school has a set of lap tops that classes can borrow to use in the class setting. These have been particularly used by the senior classes involved in research projects. Digital cameras are widely used in classrooms in many subject areas. As well, we have the big screen in the hall. Teacher computers Teachers are well trained in technology as much of their work has a technology flavour. Staff all have their own email accounts and all information from the DEC comes via email. Communication between schools and between staff members is mostly via email. Professional development sites are set up where teachers can communicate with each other such as a chat room style of program with groups of teachers with like interests being able

November and returns home on 3rd December. He will be working hard every day dancing and singing, with possible selection in the choir to visit America in 2012. We wish him all the best in his endeavours, and are very proud of his achievements.

Whale watching Last Friday two members of our SRC Youth Environment Council went whale watching! Lyam Caesar and Elizabeth Bryce very ably represented Nambucca Primary accompanied by Kylie and Jason Caesar. A big thank you to SRC coordinator Mrs Miller for organising the day, and also to Kylie and Jason for their help. Jenny Joske

to have professional dialogue around a chosen area. Don’t forget our Newsletter can be emailed to you as well. It is great to see parents taking advantage of this offer. School Website The school has a new updated website with a lot of very interesting information on it. Please take the time to check it out. We are constantly up-dating it and adding new information to the site.

    P&C News

After meeting with the bus company last week regarding the new timetable, it was brought to the attention of Busways that their distribution of information was not as effective as it needed to be. This has caused some problems due to changed bus numbers, times and stops. Some of these issues have been addressed by the bus company however, some changes cannot be adjusted to suit everyone. If you have any queries

    about timetables and bus

    routes please phone Danielle

    at Busways Macksville who

will be able to answer any

    of your questions. Please

    note that the timetable on

    the Busways website was not

    complete as of Friday so

    may not have the

    information you are seeking.

The school has made technology a priority and allocated a substantial amount of the budget each year to up-date and improve on existing technology in the school. The school is very forward thinking in the area of Technology.

    For further information please

contact Mr McMahon or Mr Katte.

On Friday the 18th November two members of the SRC YEC (Youth Envi-ronmental Committee) went to Coffs Harbour to do some whale watching. The transport was provided by Kylie & Jason Caesar. It was a very fun day. Thank goodness nobody threw up or got sea sick. We saw at least five whales and a few were feeding there young. We even saw a few camels. After the whale watching we went to the library and talked about how to save energy, water, fuel, bio-diversity and the environment. By Elizabeth Bryce & Lyam Caesar.
