Welcome back to Term 3 and a special
welcome to new students enrolled this
term! I hope that everyone (staff and
students) had a very relaxed and enjoya-
ble holiday. Although it was quite cold
most days, I know that you enjoyed
being snuggled up next to the fire at
home or travelling to a holiday destina-
tion somewhere.
We are more than half way through the
year and that is unbelievable. I wish to
congratulate every student whom re-
ceived an excellent Progress Report last
Term. I would like to encourage all stu-
dents to reflect on their grades achieved and strive to achieve better this
term. We are here to support you in any way we can to ensure that you
achieve to the best of your ability. Teachers will be booking parent inter-
views during week 1 and 2 to discuss students’ progress. It is of vital
importance that parents attend the interviews as the discussions will
ultimately benefit students in their learning. Parents/ guardians and
teachers can work on a plan together to address any learning needs or
support for the future.
The building/refurbishing project of Crossways Early Learning Centre
will commence this week. The area in front of the Junior School will be
fenced in by the builders to ensure the safety of our students . The na-
ture play area for our ELC will be done simultaneously with the building/
refurbishing project. This is very exciting and we can’t wait to see the
final product. We will be organising an ELC parent information evening
during Term 3 (date to be announced soon). Parents who have already
enrolled their children and potential parents are invited to attend.
(Refreshments will be served) .
We will also invite parents to book in for ELC tours on specific days dur-
ing Term 4 after the completion of the whole facility.

Our Main Admin Office will also undergo a major “face lift” to become a
modern attractive area for parents and students to be served in. Projects
and developments at Crossways are always for the benefit of our stu-
dents and school community to ensure that we serve at a high standard.
Every staff member employed at Crossways sees their job as a vocation
(A calling from God) and that is why we always go that extra mile for our
fellow staff members, students and parents. The way we act and interact
as a Christian school community makes us different than other school
communities. I invite all parents of our Ceduna community to consider
Crossways Lutheran School for your children’s education for 2019 – En-
rolments are now open. Please feel free to contact the front office to
book an appointment with myself to discuss further.
We are introducing laptops for our year 5/6 students this term. This will
be their primary ICT device to do research on and to submit very creative
assignments in different formats as required. IPADS will only be used in
learning areas where the students need to create “I movies” or take pho-
tos for specific tasks etc. Students will also be introduced to basic Excel
spreadsheets for Maths, Business Enterprise and Science etc.
Our school has been identified by ACARA to be part of the Digital Tech-
nologies Project that will be rolled out to 160 schools in Australia. In
order for students to really exceed in Digital Technologies they will need
a high level computational skills which will now be practiced on their
laptops. We have purchased various sets of Digital Technologuy devices
and all staff were trained by Steve Grant (ACARA) in how to introduce
them to students and integrate them into the Digital Technoloty curricu-
lum. Students will be taught to write Algorithms, programming, prob-
lem solving, critical thinking etc. Skills they will need for the future to
pursue 21st century careers.
A word of Encouragement: Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to
prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a
future.
What an exciting start to the Term!
Blessings, Francois Pienaar

College Students visit Crossways
Ex Crossways students, Kai Edwards, Jason Coleman & Chante Bilney visited Crossways late last term. Kai is boarding at Rostrevor College, Jason at Westminster and Chante at Immanuel College in Adelaide. The three student’s visit was much appreciated and they are looked upon as role models to the students at Crossways.
Welcome back for another term! Halfway through the year al-ready!
We have plenty coming up this term, starting with our 100 days of school celebration this Friday, where we celebrate completing the first 100 days of school, with all things numbering ‘100’! Stu-dents are encouraged to dress up as an old person for the day, and from 2pm onwards there will be a variety of themed activi-ties for students to take part in. All parents/caregivers/grandparents are welcome to attend.
This term you are likely to see classes involved in a variety of Digi-tal Technology based activities. Our school is part of the ACARA Digital Technologies in Focus project, and staff have now taken part in two Professional Development days, aimed at supporting the implementation of Digital Technologies (DT) across the school. A particular focus has been on ways to integrate DT into other curriculum areas, including the Arts, which opens up some interesting possibilities. Watch this space!
In Week 5 we will celebrate Book Week. Another opportunity for students to dress up, but this time as their favourite story book characters. The theme this year is ‘Find Your Treasure’. This is an opportunity to celebrate and encourage reading, and it is when we find out which books have been named Australian Book of the Year across the 6 categories. Book Fair will also run in this week, where you will be able to buy some great books. Opening times will be advertised closer to the date.
In Week 8 we will be hosting another Cricket clinic run by the SA Cricket Association. These clinics, along with the football clinics, are a great opportunity for students to learn new skills, refine old ones, and foster interest in the sport.
As we enter the second half of the school year, I would encour-age you to continue to check in with your child’s teachers from time to time to see how they are going, and how you might sup-port them and your child’s learning. Visit your child’s class, make a time to speak to their teacher after school, or message them through the Class Dojo app. Encourage them in their work and pray for them – it is not easy catering for 18+ little individuals and their needs every day, and they do an amazing job!
We look forward to seeing you around the school, and to another busy, challenging and rewarding term.

Term 3 has arrived and that means we are on the homeward stretch as we are past the half way mark of the school year for 2018. I trust that all students had a great two week break and that they are returning with the endeavor to perform to the best of their ability across all curriculum areas. In this week’s newsletter I would like to dot point some important reminders to assist students on their learning journey.
Attendance Please make sure you attend school every day. Attend-
ance demonstrates your commitment to learning and enables you every opportunity to keep up with your school work. Non-attendance leaves students to play catch up and many may struggle under this pressure.
Expectations Expectations could be school based, class based or per-
sonal. Expectations are the same for teachers and stu-dents. They allow us to perform in a certain manner to ensure positive interactions in a variety of environments as well as giving us the best opportunities for positive learning to take place.
School Uniform All students have been issued with a school uniform. Our
school uniform helps build pride in our school and it al-lows students a visual reminder of which students attend their school.
This is no different to wearing a sport uniform to demon-strate that you are part of a team.
Challenge: Make the commitment to wear correct school uniform every day, which means only wearing Sport Uniform on days when you have Phys. Ed.
Behaviour Management Crossways has a well set out Behaviour Management
Policy. Our policy aims to grow children in positive, car-ing behaviours whilst still allowing them a voice to feel part of the process. Our purpose is to work with parents and caregivers to keep students at school as we know this is most beneficial for their learning. Therefore, we ask parents to support us in this endeavor.
Parent Teacher Interviews After the huge success of our last Parent/ Teacher inter-
views at the beginning of Term 2, we will be following the same process this term. Parents/ Caregivers will be contacted by teachers and an
interview time will be booked in over the first two weeks of this term. It is imperative that parents and caregivers are on board with this, as together we are trying to send the right message to students. The mes-sage that education is important and that we, yes, we together will support them as best as possible on their learning journey.
I know I have mentioned a lot of things in this message,
but if we value these dot points they become part of our personal tool kits, always reminding us about how to
socialise with others in positive, respectful ways. Being Christ like means always looking for the best in each
other, being thoughtful about our words and actions to make sure we bring each other up. Our good points far out-number our errors.
Looking forward to a great term. From Romolo Puccio, Whole School Coordinator.
