RED RIBBON WEEK
This year we will combine Drug and Bullying
Prevention as we celebrate Red Ribbon Week, October
26-30, 2015. Our theme this year is “Showing Good
Character”. This may give you a good opportunity to
discuss your family’s view on drugs, alcohol, and
bullying. Maybe you could discuss with your child
what “good character” means to you? Your children
will have a chance to ask you questions they may have
about the subject. Below is a list of the activities we will
be doing at Elmwood School.
Monday October 26- Each homeroom will place a red
ribbon on the fence on 76th avenue to show the
community that Elmwood School has good character.
Character trait discussed: Honesty.
Tuesday October 27-- Each student will write or draw
on a red ribbon how they can show good character.
Please come see our “wall of good character” by the
ramp when you come to parent teacher conferences.
Character trait discussed: Cooperation.
Wednesday October 28- “Friends don’t let friends Bully
or do Drugs”. Staff and students wear red to show you
we are in this together.
Character trait discussed: Showing Kindness.
Thursday October 29- -“Show good character”. Staff
and students to wear favorite team clothing to show we
have good character.
Character trait discussed: Teamwork.
Friday October 30- Everyone today will get a “Be
Strong, Be True, Be You, Drug Free” pencil.
Character trait discussed: Responsibility.
A big thank you to Student Council and PATT for

WORDS OF WISDOM
Happy Friday, Panthers and Parents! The
theme for the month of October is “Making a
Difference.” This week we are focusing on
kindness and respect. I want to challenge each
and every one of you to perform a random act of
kindness this weekend. This could be as simple
as giving a warm smile to someone who needs it,
or as big as doing an extra chore at home for
your parents. Please be sure to respect everyone
around you as well. Remembering to say
“please” and “thank you” can go a long way.
Have a wonderful weekend, and remember to
come to school on Monday prepared to Be
Responsible, Be Respectful, and Be Ready for
class! With something to think about, this is Ms.
Martini. Make it a great weekend – or not. The
choice is yours!
BE RESPONSIBLE, BE RESPECTFUL, BE READY
