Principal’s Message

Defibrillators

I thought it might be useful to know that we have two defibrillator machines

in the school. There is one just outside the Administration office door and a

second one in the Hall foyer.

Outdoor Table Tennis Table

The area shown here is being prepared for an outdoor table tennis table and

it is being funded by our 2020, Term 4, School Walkathon. It is the area

outside the Year 6 classrooms near the Science building and the Hall.

School commences at 9:00am & concludes

at 3:30pm. The arrival of children at school

will be supervised from 8:45am. Children

will also be supervised while they are

leaving school until 3:45pm.

Please ensure your child arrives with

enough time to get to their class. Late

arrivals are a disruption to everyone.

absences, preferably on the day before

9:30am or prior to the day/s.

Principal’s Message Cont.

GaGa Pit

Our Year 5 students, following their camp at Phillip Island, wish to have a

GaGa Pit built at school as they had so much fun playing in one at the camp.

A GaGa Pit is a wooden hexagonal fence placed on concrete. A game similar

to dodge ball is played inside using a soft ball and many students can play at

once. We are looking at ways to fund this as the cost could be around five

to six thousand dollars.

School Review

Our school is undertaking a comprehensive and formal School Review early

in Term 4 this year to evaluate our progress against goals and targets

documented in our 2017-2021 Strategic Plan. School Reviews take place

every four years, our last one being in 2017. Following the School Review

we identify goals and targets to improve student learning outcomes and

wellbeing in the school’s next four year School Strategic Plan.

The School Review model is designed to reflect the significance of review

outcomes for School Leadership, Professional Practice, Curriculum Content,

Student Voice and School Culture. We will be reviewed over three days on

measured Student Achievement, Engagement and Wellbeing including an

evaluation of the following areas: Excellence in Teaching and Learning;

Community Engagement in Learning; Professional Leadership and Positive

Climate for Learning.

The School Review Panel will be led by a Department of Education appointed

external reviewer and panel members including School Council

representatives, members of our School Leadership Team, two Principal

Class members from other schools and the Senior Education Improvement

Leader from the Regional Office.

The School Review Panel members will be involved in gathering and testing

evidence about current school performance. Thoughtful examination of

performance data is an essential part of the panel members’ task. This,

teamed with observations and fieldwork involving classroom visits and

discussions with students and staff, determines the actions that will help the

school to improve. In respecting the insights that data provides, it is

important that the School Review process also acknowledges that the

improvement journey for every school is different. There is no ‘one size fits

all’ formula for school improvement.

This term, the Year 2 students have been learning about life in the 1900s. This unit provided students with an

opportunity to learn about changes in communication and toys transport.

THE OLDEN DAYS

First, we had an immersion day. We were all acting like olden day kids. Mrs Dennis was even holding a ruler like a

cane!

Secondly, we were going to different classrooms. We all got a stamp in our passports. We were doing many odd jobs,

like washing tea towels. Some people were competing in a competition to see who could get the ink out of the cloth. I

think the teachers put on permanent marker by accident, because l saw that nobody could wash the stain off!

Finally, we returned back to the 2J classroom. We made silhouettes. We went into the computer room and shone a

torchlight. We used our shadows to draw on a piece of paper. When the teachers finished, we had to cut them out.

My favourite part of our history unit was the immersion day. I enjoyed doing the odd jobs, because we got to wash

the towels and then we could play with water.

Firstly, we learnt about vehicles. In the olden days they had to use bikes and had to walk. You had to be really rich to

buy a car so most people walked or cycled.

Secondly, we learnt modes of communication. In the 1900s they did not have phones so they sent letters by post and

birds.

Finally, we learnt about toys. In the 1900s they did not have plastic or electricity so they made toys out of wood.

I enjoyed learning about toys in the olden days. I mostly enjoyed designed my own toy.
