Periodicals in DIN A3 format

Aside from the DIN A4 magazines, periodicals with a DIN A3 newspaperlayout exist. Different design guidelines and a different layout apply,following the same typographic grid for cover pages and content pages.

Employee magazine ‘Kontakt’, DIN A3

A logo stripe as well as a header barwith a corner element exist for thenewspaper layout. However, allelements are set within the live area,and do not bleed. A different headerbar for left and right hand contentpages has been formally assigned.

Document and baseline grid systemsare identical to the DIN A4 layout: theformat is subdivided into six textcolumns.

The text elements, too, largely complyto DIN A4 guidelines, though justifiedtext is used for body copy.

Logo stripe and logoThe height of the logo stripe is 28mm. The logo is placed9mm from the top margin, and 11mm from the right margin.The width of the corporate mark ‘DB’ of the logo is 15mm.

TitleThe title type is a single line only. In this example, DB HeadAlternate Black Italic is used. The baseline has a distance of68mm from the top margin of the format. The header bardoes not bleed in the newspaperlike DIN A3 layout, but sitswithin the live area. Layout of a cover pageThe design of cover and continuingpages is based on the same typographicgrid as newspaper layouts, due to theirsimilarities. The live area is dividedhorizontally into six columns with 4mmgaps. Vertically, the format ispartitioned by a fine baseline grid(increment 1mm) for the textalignment, and a larger document gridfor the alignment of larger designelements.
