Japanese Prints
Albrecht Dürer
- German Artist- Majorly influential
in Europe during the Renaissance.
- Did paintings as well, but his multiple prints were spread far a wide.
- Hid his initials in all of his prints.
The Impact of Printmaking- Printmaking allows for
multiple copies of one image to be created (like a copier!)
- Books no longer have to be hand written.
- People who can not read can now gather knowledge from the art work.
- Everybody can see art now!
- Printmaking is known as “art for the masses.”
Where does linoleum come in?
• Recent method of printmaking.
• Cheap and easy!• Never taken
seriously until Pablo Picasso.
• 2,500 prints • He also developed
the technique of creating a multi-colored print using only one block.

Journal Entry #7Make one good quality crayon rubbing
on a blank page of your sketchbook. Make the crayon rubbing after you are finished carving, but before you print
with ink.
A Few Reminders
• Do not forget to tape your original sketch back into your art journal.
• Final day to ink is Thursday and project is due on Friday (must start carving today!).
• Do not forget about Journal Entry #7: the crayon rubbing.
• Finish carving, then do your crayon rubbing, and then start inking.
Signing and Numbering Prints
• Always sign and number in pencil. • Title on the left in “quotes”• Edition number in middle—should look
like a fraction. Example: 1/8 5/5 3/4• Label if Artist Proof or Ghost Print• Signature goes on right
