“PIECES OF PEACE”
“Last year the Wisconsin Badgers men's basketball team was coming off of an amazing Final Four run that ended in a heartbreaking loss to Kentucky by 1 point. They followed that up with yet another run to the Final Four, this time beating Kentucky, but falling to Duke in the Championship game (No, I am not over it yet). That whole season the Badgers rallied around the motto of "Make 'em Believe." They talked about it in the locker room, they tweeted it,
and they wore it on their chest. As we enter into fall programming and make the transitions into the new school year, we, like the Badgers before us, will be celebrating this year with a motto - "Become a Piece of Peace." These are exciting times at Peace Lutheran and I think we have a lot to celebrate and some special opportunities. This year in particular I invite you to think about our community like a puzzle. I encourage you to reflect on how each of us is a piece of this wonderful puzzle, or to put it theologically, the body of Christ in this
place and time. It takes a lot of people to make this place what it is and what God is calling it to be. Just as a puzzle doesn't quite fulfill it's purpose by remaining as separate pieces in a box, this fall I hope you will take some time to think about how your talents and gifts fit into this community of faith. I want you to think about what places/ministries at Peace that might be missing your piece of the puzzle and how you might be able to complete that picture with your presence, your time, or your story. As an important "Piece" of Peace I would also love to have your input on how we, with the Spirit's guidance, will shape our future together in this place. This October the Leadership Team invites you to join us for a visioning forum on Sunday, October 11th at 9:15 am in the Conference Room. Our plan is to look at what our hopes are for the next three (3) years, Name our current successes, and to look at some things that could be pruned/or reshaped. I really hope you'll take the time to join in on this important discussion. If you are unable to make the Sunday offering, I will be doing the same process at 6:30 pm on Monday, October 12th. My family and I are grateful to be "pieces" of this wonderful collection of beautiful and broken people who make up the puzzle that is Peace Lutheran Church. I wonder how God will use us in this place this year, what about you?

Simple changes my family has made to increase our recycling efforts,
simple changes to make a huge impact
K-Cups were not originally designed to be recycled, alternative option reusable coffee filter. Latest Amazon price for 3 pack $23.95 http://www.impactshopping.com/plo cost savings of buying a container of coffee vs. K-Cups is significant and better on the environment. Folgers 18 K-Cups = $10.99 (5.04 oz) Folgers 90 6 oz Cups = $3.94 (11.3 oz)
Plastic CAPS are not acceptable with Winnebago County; items you intend to recycle could end in the land fill if caps ARE NOT removed. http://www.co.winnebago.wi.us/solid-waste/recycling I verified with Winnebago County the sorting process of plastic bottles with caps.
Create a Party Bin: Plastic utensils (generally) are not re-cyclable although some brands are made from recycled material, consider having a community party bin with real silverware.
Bathroom Recycling: Toilet paper rolls, shampoo/soap bottles (watch labels and caps).
Farmers Market: Reuse produce/deli containers for your vegetables or fruit; try to avoid the vendors using plastic grocery bags.
Terracycle: Researched different brigades on Terracycle, currently collecting Entenmann’s Little Bites Pouch to re-turn vs. putting in the garbage. https://www.terracycle.com/en-US/
Plastic Film: We have a bag hanging next to our reusable grocery totes to collect all our plastic film materials and replaced storage bags with Tupperware.
Drive Through Windows: I only purchase a coffee/soda treat if I have my own cup.
At Work: Eliminated using plastic silverware and paper plates, I keep utensils, a plate and bowl in my desk drawer.

Back to School Sunday Blessing Join us on Sunday, September 20, for our Back to School Blessing. All students Pre-School through high school, college students, teachers, aides, principals, and pre-school/school/Sunday School staff of any sort are welcome to receive a special blessing during worship at the 8 am and 10:30 am worship services. In addition to blessing and praying for you, each person will receive a small gift of love from Peace. “God’s work. Our hands” Sunday, September 13, is an opportunity to celebrate who we are as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) – one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor. Since 2013, thousands of ELCA congregations have participated in this opportunity and dedicated one day to serve communities in ways that share the love of God with all people. Mark your calendar today!
We are a church that rolls up our sleeves and gets to work. Whether it’s volunteering at a shelter for people and families who are homeless, gathering food items to fill shelves at a local food pantry or advocating for peace and justice in communities, your service activities offer an opportunity for us to explore one of our most basic convictions as Lutherans: That all of life in Jesus Christ – every act of service, in every daily calling, in every corner of life – flows freely from a living, daring confidence in God’s grace. Join us on Saturday, September 12, for our local event and celebrate in worship the next day. Contact the Mission & Outreach team to sign up. projectFAITH will hold an organizational meeting on Wednesday, September 16, at 6:30 pm in the social center. At least one parent should attend with their student. SAVE THE DATES: projectFAITH FALL BLAST Weekend will be November 6-8. Please save these dates as this is our fall retreat and an expectation of the projectFAITH program. Details to come.
Fall Camp Work Day Clean-up days are scheduled for the three camps of Crossways in the spring and the fall. Types of work include: minor repairs, window washing, general cleaning, raking leaves, winterizing, planting flowers, and trimming trees. Work on these days begins at 8am and concludes mid/late afternoon with lunch provided by the camp. In order to prepare for the meal provided we ask that you fill out this form to let us know you are attending. Peace is sponsoring two opportunities to go to camp and work (FREE LUNCH!) Sign up in the church office or contact Andy Moscinski.
Fall Work Day 2015: Saturday, October 3rd, 8am-3pm: Imago Dei Village in Clintonville Saturday, October 31st, 8am-3pm: Waypost Camp in Hatley. Senior High Youth Gathering November will be November 13-16 and is open to all high school youth grade 9-12. We will be hanging in big old Manitowoc, WI at the Holiday Inn. Watch your mail for more specifics to come. Family Retreat Would your family be interested in a retreat at one of our fine local bible camps? Peace is planning on sponsoring a weekend at Imago Dei Village, Clintonville to celebrate Advent, this could be seen as a Family ADVENTure! December 11-13, 2015 - $90 per person (ages 5 and under FREE) This will include two nights lodging in private cabins, indoor plumbing, heated and more. It also includes all meals (4), bible study, worship, crafts, games and all that camp can provide, plus our focus on Advent. Space is limited, so talk to Mo and get signed up early!

The 2015-2016 Peace Lutheran Sunday School
season begins on Kick-off Sunday, September 13,
starting at 9:15 in the Social Center.
Our teaching staff is busily putting together a fun and
informative learning program that’s sure to keep kids
engaged in Bible study and faith formation. Our
curriculum will combine traditional learning with
exciting activities, projects, games, worship
participation and special surprises. There will be
something for kids of all ages.
And YES... there will be Bible Bucks again this year!
We have class openings from Pre-Kindergarten (4-
years old) through 8th grade. The Peace Sunday School
is open to all — students don’t have to be a PLC
members. But we do need to have Registration Forms
for all students. These will be available in the Social
Center on Rally Sunday, or anytime in the PLC Church
Office. Please be sure to fill out all information for each
student.
Remember!
If you can’t be with us on Kick-off Sunday, your kids are
welcome to start any time. Just bring them to the
Social Center at 9:15 on Sunday and fill out a
Registration Form. If you have questions or need more
information, contact either Pat or E.R. Waskawic at
920-685-5396.

Peace will host a music concert combining rapping, dancing, storytelling and his fluency in Spanish, AGAPE* connects with his listeners in a way that they really "get it". His energy is contagious, and his stories of faith transcend differences. Even those who do not normally enjoy hip-hop, find themselves dancing to his music and captivated by his unique presentation of the Gospel. AGAPE* brings an authentic approach by translating the theological depth of his seminary training into simple songs and stories that can be understood by every listener. His passion is to bring together people of all backgrounds and let them know about God's love for the whole world. This is "AGAPE*"! AGAPE* has been touring full-time as a musician for the last twelve years, performing for hundreds of thousands of youth across the US, and in eight different countries. He has shared the stage with the likes of Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Toby Mac, David Crowder, Tony Campolo, and Gospel giant Kirk Franklin. In 2001 He co-founded JUMP (Joint Urban Ministries in Praise)
a ministry dedicated to helping urban youth unleash their leadership skills through the arts. More recently he founded a youth-led worship service called AMP (All Metro Praise) which attracts hundreds of youth across the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metro area each month. In 2009, he received the Tom Hunstad Award for excellence in youth ministry and his contribution to the lives of young people. His ministry was also recently featured in an ABC affiliated documentary entitled "Peace of Bread" about food insecurity in America. AGAPE* will be LIVE in concert at Peace at 6:30 PM on Saturday, September 26. Great opportunity to spend time as a family with positive music, high energy, and a whole lot of Jesus.

Member Information LEADERSHIP PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Greetings, It seems like everyone is talking about how fast the summer is going by. It always seems there is something to do and such little time to do it. I would like to take a little time to reflect on the summer happenings here at Peach Lutheran Church. Our summer Worship Schedule included a number of special services which were very well attended. Going down to one service in the summer is always a nice way to bring people together. People who normally would attend one of the other services and otherwise might not cross each other’s path. The Bonfire services on Thursday nights were also a big hit with a lot of people. What a fun way to enjoy each others company, sing some silly songs, hear God's word, and eat S'mores. VBS was held at Peace this year co-sponsored with First English Lutheran Church. There were 64 kids in attendance and 40 volunteer adults. What a great turnout! The Sunday morning service that the group put on was very nicely done and the kids looked like they had a great week. Now shifting forward, I would like to mention a few things we have coming up. On September 12th we will be having another Our Hands God's Work day. Look for more on that as plans are being made and see where you can help out during this service opportunity. On September 13th there will be the Blessing of the Backpacks and also the Faith Formation Kickoff Sunday. Mark your calendar for these two events and rumor has it there may even be some surprises. Oktoberfest is just around the corner as well. On October 18th there will be one service at 9:30 a.m., followed by an Oktoberfest party. This will be the third year of this event. Come and join us! It is always a really fun time. As you can see, Peace is a busy bustling place to be! Hope to see you in church.

Member Information CHANCEL CHOIR RESUMES The first rehearsal for Chancel Choir will be Wednesday, September 2nd at 6:30 p.m. in the chancel as usual. All folks that are interested in joining us are welcome to this first rehearsal. It is one of many opportunities to ‘Become a piece of Peace.’ If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Larry Klausch or any of the choir members. The choir will resume singing at the 8:00 a.m. Sunday services starting September 6.
BELL CHOIR RESUMES The first rehearsal for Bell Choir will be Wednesday, September 9th at 6:00 p.m. in the chancel as usual. If you are interested in joining our group, we welcome you to come to the first rehearsal this year. Larry Klausch makes it very easy to follow the music so anyone can play the bells. Another opportunity to ‘Become a ‘piece of Peace.’ The Bell Choir plays several times a year. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Larry Klausch or any of the bell choir members.
KICK-OFF SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 13TH! The fall is upon us and we are kicking off our school year programming like a stuffed pigskin! Join us for worship at either 8 am or 10:30 am, and be sure to register for Sunday school @ 9:15 as well as checking out what Adult Education has in store. Since it is also the start of the NFL season we invite you to wear your favorite teams colors, jersey or not, and invite you to remain or return to PLC for a cookout following the 10:30 service. If you do please bring something to share. Don't pass up on this great way to kick-off our Fall activities!

UPDATED EMAIL/TEXT MESSAGE NUMBERS All members of each family (not just the main email) should submit to the church office their updated email and text message numbers as soon as possible. Starting in September, we hope to send all worship assistant reminders to people by email or text (their choice) instead of postcards at a cost of $0.34 each. This would result in a savings of $300 per year. We would also like to see as many as possible receive the church newsletter, Prints of Peace, via email or the church website, saving even more postage at $0.71 each.
HOW CAN LIFE INSURANCE BE USED TO BENEFIT YOU & PEACE LUTHERAN CHURCH? Giving life insurance to the Peace Lutheran Endowment Fund may allow you to make a larger gift than you otherwise could afford. Further, the government encourages charitable giving by providing tax advantages for certain charitable donations. This means that both you and Peace Lutheran could benefit from your donation.
Typically a donor will make Peace Lutheran the owner and beneficiary of some type of permanent life insurance policy. This could be done with an existing policy or a new policy. But there are many ways of structuring a charitable gift involving life insurance and one alternative may better suit your needs and those of the charity than others.

BACK TO SCHOOL: THE BOOK Just as the kids are going back, doesn't it seem like a great time to get back into The Book? That's exactly what the new women's study is going to do! Join us for a fresh revelation of the Bible with Angie Smith and her study called "Seamless." Not only does she put the Bible in a new light, she explains how the Bible is actually one whole story. No matter who you are, this study will encourage and stir up your desire to read our letter, our tangible words which our God gave to us, as we journey this experience on earth.
Study will begin Monday September 14, and meet again 9/28, 10/12, 10/26, 11/9, 11/23 and end 12/7. Study takes place at First English Church at 7pm in the Mary Martha room. The book with a study guide is available at www.angiesmithonline.com as well as Amazon.
