Introduction

A school institution is a place where kids could learn a lot of things to help them become responsible and productive citizens in the society in the near future. It is the place where education is given great importance as the kids learn values, pile up knowledge and necessary skills that are essential when they become adults. It is the place where kids could experience memorable moments that are priceless and would be treasured for the rest of their lives. And last but definitely not the least a school can be likened to a playground where they will get involved with series of extra-curricular activities that could hone their socialization skills. The school also provide kids the opportunity to further polish their God-endowed talents like in music, arts, sports and the likes. The possibilities that could benefit our kids are indeed limitless. Since school is important sometimes we are stacked with this question: What is better Public School or Private School? I have been teaching college and high school students for the past eight years and finished my elementary and high school in public, I believe that, I already has a bird's eye view of which is better. However, I can only speak of the setting here in the Philippines as situations in other places might vary.

Management

The most striking difference between private and public schools in the mini-survey, howeever, is the difference in their respective levels of school autonomy. Headmasters in private schools have significantly more control over school-level decisions. It also shows greater school-level autonomy in private schools fore wide range of decisions affecting student achievement, including selecting teachers, adapting the curriculum, improving instructional practice and choosing textbooks. This autonomy enables private schools to be responsive to parents, to whom they are accountable.

Different conditions fo teaching, learning and school administration

Public and private schools differe in their administrations and conditions for teaching and learning. While public schools are fully dependent on the state for their finances and their administrations, private schools depend more in student fees and private charity, and only occasionally on the state additional support.

Stronger core curriculum

Public and private schools can differ in the strength of the core curriculum they offer to theor students, regardless of their personal background or future educational plans. A strong core curriculum integrates the structure and policy of schools, not only for students but also for teachers. Private schools tend to have a more limited differentiations in their curriculum compared to public schools. This limitation in curricular differentiation can be partly the consequence of the smaller school size and more limited resources of private schools, due to theor dependence on non-governmental funds.

Pros and cons of Attending in Private School

Security

Most private schools have tighter and stricter security than that of the public schools. Private schools hire more security guards because they have ample budget.

Quality of Students

Page 2: Private vs Public Schools

Most students that attend in a private school are rich, and some of them are spoiled brats, sorry for my French. These kinds of students are the ones that make life difficult for teachers and even to their classmates as they are often get involved in troubles in the school. Teachers here should know classroom management well to prevent any untoward incidents to happen.

Quality of Teachers

Some private schools here in the Philippines hire unlicensed teachers. However this scene is slowly being phased out since the Department of Education and Culture and Sports (DECS) are now strict with the hiring of the private schools teaching personnel Things seemed to be equal in terms of talent, potential and quality of work dished out by both the public and private teachers. it is also worth mentioning that the private school teachers constantly monitored.

Facilities

In the Philippines, the private school facilities including computer rooms, laboratories are considered to be better than that of the public schools.

Quality of Lessons Taught

The lessons taught in private school tends to be more advance than that of the public schools, however no matter how advance the lessons are, execution still plays a vital part. Lessons should be given and taught by the teachers to the best of their abilities and make sure that the students learn and mastered the lesson well.

Moral Values

Private Christian schools tend to be conservative while they embrace the norms and standards that they set and implements. Most Christian Schools here in the country produces well-behaved students.

Pros and cons of Attending in Public School

Security Public elementary schools normally doesnt experience any problems with security, however, there is a big problem in public high school here in the Philippines. Since children came from families with different social background, more brotherhoods and fraternities are formed this is very disturbing.

Quality of Students Public school is a mixture of extremes, meaning it is an institution where you can find the very bright students and at the same time the ones that find learning very difficult. In most national contest such as Quiz Bee, news writing and the likes students from public schools normally takes the highest plum although the students from private are also very capable. The very bright students of the public school have a small edge over that of the students in private school.

Quality of Teachers All teachers in the public school (high school and elementary) in the Philippines are licensed, but since the vast majority of them are not constantly monitored with their respective principal or superiors, they tend to get relaxed, be succinct and sometimes tend to be sluggish in whipping up decent and comprehensive lesson plan that they could use to teach students effectively. But this observation is not in general since there are also some that are irresponsible.

Facilities In the Philippines, there is no doubt that the facilities of the public schools lag behind than that of the private school. But since there are more

Page 3: Private vs Public Schools

bright students and very innovative teachers in the public school, resourcefulness and creativity makes both ends meet in terms of using available resources and indigenous materials to compensate for what is lacking

Quality of Lessons Taught Private schools definitely have the edge, but many public high schools have special Science section that could compete with that of the private school.

Moral Values since public schools tend to be the melting pot of different students with different status in life most likely there are some students that lack appropriate manners and this can cause domino effect on the their schoolmates. But overall. the public school teachers will exhort to all kinds of effective teaching method and employ classroom management to correct mistakes and erect right values on the students.

Conclusion: Practicality, schools security, and quality of teachers, facilities and environment will truly determine your choice of school which will suit your kids.

Sometimes the place to attend school is not the issue, because what will boil down at the end is what your kids would learn, and acquire in school. Student factor is still the best, your kid is still the one that earns the grade and if he gets very lucky then he could even obtain accolades. It is also advisable that parents regularly monitor the performance of their kids and offer the much-needed help in aiding them to understand their lessons.

Policy

private schools can serve as a laboratory for alternative models of school-level management, which, if effective, could be adopted by public schools. Theoretically, private schools are free of thebureaucratic constraints that encumber public schools and are able to control many more decisions at theschool level. It is argued that, if public schools were given the degree of school-level autonomy thatprivate schools enjoy, this would boost achievement levels in public schools. Not all analysts agree thatpublic schools would be able to emulate private schools, because of the differences in their sources ofsupport. They reason that private schools emphasize learning because parental funding makes privateschools accountable to parents' demands for effective instruction. By comparison, public schools pay lessattention to learning because they need to balance professional accountability to parents with fiscalaccountability to the centralized funding source.

Comments: it's a choice....education is a freedom to choose.both has its worth..we can only feel its importance if we can trully value its importance and be able to apply what we have gained from either of the two...what important is the knowledge that wwe have gained!
