Four time Major Champion and former World Number One Rory McIlroy, who was victorious at Wentworth in 2014, will make his first appearance of the year on European soil as he gets his first chance to take on the revamped West Course after being forced to miss last year’s event due to a recurrence of a rib injury.
Race to Dubai Champion Tommy Fleetwood joins his fellow European stars in the field with one eye on a debut Ryder Cup appearance, as the race to qualify for the 2018 tournament in France this September heats up with Ryder Cup points earned at European Tour events from this week until Made in Denmark in August multiplied by 1.5 on both the World Points List and the European Point List.
A host of former Ryder Cup players will be looking for strong performances to enhance their prospects of qualifying automatically for the European Team at Le Golf National, with Casey and McIlroy joined in the field by a lengthy list of players who have competed in the biennial contest including Rafa Cabrera Bello, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Padraig Harrington, Martin Kaymer, Francesco Molinari, Thomas Pieters, Ian Poulter, Danny Willett and Chris Wood.

The popular Celebrity Pro-Am returns this week as global film, music and sport stars team up with European Tour players for a day of friendly competition.
This year’s event will once again feature both a morning and afternoon edition, going off at 8:00 and 13:15 respectively.
Manchester United captain Michael Carrick will tee it up alongside four-time Major Champion Rory McIlroy when he makes his debut in the Celebrity Pro-Am.
Other prominent footballers on hand will include the Premier League’s all-time leading scorer Alan Shearer, Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler, as well as 1999 treble-winning Red Devils Paul Scholes and Peter Schmeichel.
From the world of film and television, journalist and television personality Piers Morgan, will return after playing the event last year on a team led by Ernie Els.
Appearing in his first BMW Celebrity Pro- Am is Fifty Shades of Grey star Jamie Dornan. The Hollywood actor coincidentally hails from Holywood, Northern Ireland, which is also the hometown of McIlroy.
Speaking of McIlroy, his good friend and international recording artist Niall Horan will be putting his golf game to the test as he takes on the difficult West Course.
After a strong showing last year, actor Damian Lewis, who portrays the character Bobby Axelrod in the hit series Billions, will be looking to improve on his team’s third place finish in last year’s event.
Lewis has received international acclaim for his roles in Homeland and Band of Brothers, and last year joined 2016 BMW PGA Champion Chris Wood, as well as rowing legends Sir Matthew Pinsent and Sir Steve Redgrave, to finish with an impressive team score of 24 under par.
