CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH

PART ONE: THE PROFESSION OF FAITH

Section Two: THE CREEDS

Chapter One: I BELIEVE IN GOD THE FATHER

Article One: “I believe in God the Father

Almighty, creator of heaven and earth”

Paragraph Two: The Father

IV. The Divine Works and the Trinitarian Missions

The ultimate end of the whole divine economy is the entry of God's creatures into the perfect unity of the Blessed Trinity. But even now we are called to be a dwelling for the Most Holy Trinity: "If a man loves me", says the Lord, "he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him, and make our home with him":

O my God, Trinity whom I adore, help me forget

myself entirely so to establish myself in you,

unmovable and peaceful as if my soul were already

in eternity. May nothing be able to trouble my peace

or make me leave you, O my unchanging God, but

may each minute bring me more deeply into your

mystery! Grant my soul peace. Make it your heaven,

your beloved dwelling and the place of your rest.

May I never abandon you there, but may I be there,

whole and entire, completely vigilant in my faith,

entirely adoring, and wholly given over to your

creative action.

FAST BEFORE COMMUNION

Question: Why are Catholics required to fast before Communion?

Answer: How we prepare for an important event helps us with the intentionality of our actions and raises our awareness. We prepare our house for guests. We wash our car before an important trip. We create a nursery for a newborn child. All of these actions heighten our senses for what is about to come.

The fast required by canon law before holy Communion has its roots in Jewish spiritual practices. We fast for cleansing and to demonstrate our reliance on God. Catholics used to fast for much longer periods of time, but it was Pope Paul VI in 1964 who set the time at one hour in an attempt to encourage people to receive the holy Eucharist more frequently. That one hour observance allows us to pause and reflect on what we will participate in in the very near future. We deny our bodies so that we can focus more clearly on the Body of Christ that we will consume. ©LPi

LITURGICAL EVENTS & NEWS

A Message from Most Rev. Mark

Brennan, Bishop of Wheeling-Charleston

DISPENSATION FROM THE OBLIGATION TO ATTEND MASS

While no member of the Faithful is bound to attend Mass where

impossibility arises, West Virginia borders a number of dioceses in

which Masses are still being publicly celebrated, and many of our

Faithful are easily able to attend those Masses. Owing to the grave

nature of the current public health crisis, and not wishing that an of

our flock be compelled to place themselves unnecessarily at risk, I

hereby dispense all those who reside within the territory of the

Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston from their obligation to attend

Mass. The intention of this dispensation, along with the suspension

of public liturgies in the Diocese, is to encourage the Faithful to

practice “social distancing” and “self-quarantine” to the extent that

their state of life permits, by which we hope to contribute to the

containment and end of the current pandemic.

ST. AGNES NEWS

Office hours are weekdays from 12:00pm-2:00pm.

Resuming Public Masses Bishop Brennan has permitted churches to resume the

celebration of public Masses following strict guidelines to prioritize everyone’s health and safety. You will find the Bishop’s letter and our reopening

guidelines on our parish website.

Masses Online

Our Sunday mass will be recorded and will be available online on our Facebook page and

our parish website each week.

Votive Candles

If you are unable to attend mass, it is still possible for a prayer candle to be lit. Contact the church during office hours with your intention and donation and

your prayer will be said for you and your candle will be lit.

LA ECONOMÍA SACRAMENTAL

CAPÍTULO PRIMERO: EL MISTERIO

PASCUAL EN EL TIEMPO DE LA IGLESIA

ARTÍCULO 2: EL MISTERIO PASCUAL

EN LOS SACRAMENTOS DE LA IGLESIA

II.
