STEP 1STEP 1
Cut the connection end of a large flexitube to approx 3/16” and place the tube on
the tying needle. Slide a medium drop weight onto the tube as shown.the tying needle. Slide a medium drop weight onto the tube as shown.
STEP 2STEP 2
Start the tying thread in front of the Drop Weight and Form a dubbing loop. Insert a
small clump of rabbit fur into the loop as shown, spin the loop and brush the hair small clump of rabbit fur into the loop as shown, spin the loop and brush the hair
out to create a form of “rabbit hackle”.
STEP 3STEP 3
Wrap 3 turns of rabbit onto the tube, and secure it back tight against the drop
weight. weight.
STEP 4STEP 4
Wrap a small bunch of Sili Legs 360 degrees around the tube and secure. I use a
small hair clip as shown to hold the material out of the way while tying.small hair clip as shown to hold the material out of the way while tying.
STEP 5STEP 5
Dub another bunch of rabbit hair into a loop and wrap over the rubber tie in point.
This will create a smooth transition from the tail to the Mylar body. This will create a smooth transition from the tail to the Mylar body.
STEP 6STEP 6
Wind the thread evenly up the tube approx ½” and secure a piece of Holographic
Mylar. Apply a small amount of Zap-A-Gap to the tube shank and wind the Mylar Mylar. Apply a small amount of Zap-A-Gap to the tube shank and wind the Mylar
down to the rabbit collar and back up to the tie in point.
(Note: be careful with the super glue, don’t let it “bulge” back into the rabbit collar
and gum it up.)and gum it up.)
STEP 7STEP 7
Whip Finish the thread and place a small dab of Zap-A-Gap at the head of the
Mylar body. Slide another Medium Drop Weight onto the tube and start the thread Mylar body. Slide another Medium Drop Weight onto the tube and start the thread
on the forward end of the fly.
STEP 8STEP 8
Create a dubbing loop and dub a “thinned” out section of Arctic Fox into the loop.
(Note: after spinning the hair into the loop, use a brush to brush the hair out.)
STEP 9STEP 9
Wrap the Arctic Fox around the tube, be sure to pull the fibers back as you wrap
forward. 3-4 turns should be sufficient.forward. 3-4 turns should be sufficient.
STEP 10STEP 10
Wrap another collar of Sili Legs in front of the Arctic Fox, the same as on the tail of
the fly.the fly.
STEP 11STEP 11
Create another dubbing loop and dub the final collar of rabbit to cover the tie in
point of the rubber legs.point of the rubber legs.
STEP 12STEP 12
Tie in (2) rooster feathers on top of the fly as wings. These can be tied in vertical
or tied in “flat wing” style. Finish building a head, whip finish, and cut and burn the or tied in “flat wing” style. Finish building a head, whip finish, and cut and burn the
tube to flair it out at the head. Apply some head cement to the finished threads
after coloring to match the pattern.
STEP 13STEP 13
Ready to fish! Rig this fly as a standard tube with an “up turned” eye hook. If you
want to have the hook behind the pattern farther, then attach the hook with a loop want to have the hook behind the pattern farther, then attach the hook with a loop
knot and use the knot as a wedge for the tube. Swing with confidence!
