Ghosts in the Country
Western Ontario. Utilizing these
materials and techniques he de-
veloped an innovative approach
to direct therapies with minimal
or no needle, drill or pain. Now
his goal is to write a book about
this and to use the internet to
communicate with anyone who
may be interested.
John still lives in Burlington
with his wife Joan and son Da-
vid.
He enjoys learning about com-
puters, photography and main-
tains a close connection with the
innovations centers in Hamilton
and Halton. He likes reading,
especially history, and about dif-
ferent countries in the world.
With his wife and friends he
enjoys travelling to these dis-
tance places.
The six PROBUS clubs in Bur-lington have been invited to par-ticipate in a Steering Committee that will assist the development and start up of a "mixed club" in Burlington. A mixed club is a club that allows both men and women to join. As an aside, Bur-lington is one of very few com-munities that does not have a mixed club. Our representative should have some knowledge of the operation of a PROBUS club and be prepared to begin to con-tribute time and talent beginning in late 2016, with a scheduled wrap up in mid 2017. Anyone
interested, please contact Bob English [email protected] by end September
Glenn shared many memorable Tiger Cat stories and showed us scenes of the new Tim Hortons Field and its many highlights. His goal is to con-tinue and encourage support and continue chanting Oskee-wee-wee.
That was the end of the great contri-bution by my kind rescuer. I just want to say that I'm all for saving The Cats and Oskee-wee-wee. It was the common chant when I first stepped on the field at Ivor Wynne 46 years ago as a youngish (31) Spec-tator photographer. I've heard it ever since, and though I have no idea what a high-schooler of today thinks of that unusual cry, I would be sad to see it go.
John was born in
1944 and raised in
Hamilton. After
graduating from
high school he spent
one year in the sci-
ence programme
at the Universi-
ty of Windsor.
Then he was
accepted into the Faculty of Dentis-
try at the University of Toronto. He
graduated in 1968 and established a
General Practice in Burlington and
retired in 2013 after 45 years.
Besides his general practice he had a
keen interest in the scientific devel-
opments in his profession. These
included the adhesives, resins and
fiberglass and their application in
clinical practice. For these new ma-
terials to function more effectively
the bonding surface should be condi-
tioned to increase the level of adhe-
sion. So he invented two devices that
would simultaneously isolate, con-
tain and remove any particulate mat-
ter when using air abrasion units in
the mouth in a clean, safe and effi-
cient manner. In 2000, two US Pa-
tents were issued to him and a study
was completed at the University of
I wasn't able to be at our Thursday Aug 18th meeting. I had been inhab-iting Joseph Brant Emergency De-partment until midnight Wednes-day with a kidney stone, so I decid-ed to give the meeting a pass and instead wait at home in discomfort, for that /@%+$**|# stone to pass. Luckily, an Email from a kindly fel-low member (my Ghost Writer) landed in my inbox this morning. That fine member had taken the trouble to describe the meeting for me. From here our anonymous con-tributor takes over ................ On Thursday we welcomed the Hamilton Tiger Cats biggest fan to our meeting. Glenn Gibson, their new President and COO came to address the 80+ Probussers attend-ing. It couldn't have been a better choice. Glenn's hometown enthusi-asm and sincere dedication to the Tiger Cats showed, as his emotion for some of his special fans and had considerable empathy. His description of the history of the club and its hometown support was amazing. The most touching part was the story about how Bob Young became the team's owner. Bob's brother Mike had a disability from childhood, yet became one of most exuberant fans in town. Every-thing Tiger Cat had been part of his life, long before Bob became the owner. Because of Bob's entrepre-neurship and sharing some invest-ments in Red Hat with Mike, The RED HAT Software Company that Bob founded, made for an oppor-tunity to rescue the Tiger Cat fran-chise from oblivion.
