Washoe County School District: Common Finals
The purpose of administering common finals district-wide is to align instruction to the Nevada
Academic Content Standards (NVACS) and measure and record the achievement of WCSD
students in core academic courses including special education, regular, and honors courses.
Integrity of test results and comparability with future administrations is dependent upon all
schools and individual courses following standardized procedures for test security and test
administration.
(TA=Teacher/Test Administrator, STC=School Test Coordinator)
General Responsibilities
1. Cumulative final tests given at the end of a semester grading term (including trimester
and quarter course schedules) are required for all students in courses which award
one-half credit or more. Teachers and departments are encouraged to use a variety of
measurement tools (short answer, constructed response, performance tasks) to fully
evaluate students, however, for courses assessed with a district or state (EOC) final, only
the raw score or equivalent percentage from the district/state final is recorded in
the “final exam” category* in the Infinite Campus grade book.
*Note: For some middle school courses, a separate grading task will be created for Term
2 and Term 4 in which to record results from the district common final test.
2. All students enrolled in sections of a tested course are expected to take the final
exam for the course without modifications. Participation is required of all students
including those in special programs. Students with an IEP, Section 504 Plan, and/or are
current EL or former EL students, should have allowed designated supports and testing
accommodations documented and communicated well in advance, indicating how they
will participate in the assessment.
3. Communicate course expectations, including information about final exam preparation
and test day procedures to students and families.
4. Maintain security and confidentiality of test materials. All courses*.
*Math 6-8 Courses: See test specific guidelines regarding security and management of
the middle grades math finals test materials.
Do NOT read, review, copy, reproduce, take notes on, or in any way capture or share
test item content. Disclosure of test content is strictly prohibited. Photographing,
recording, or transmitting any part of a test or testing session is PROHIBITED.
STC—Receive and inventory test booklets. Compare the contents of each box using
the inventory sheet included with the box (or boxes) of test booklets. If there are
discrepancies or a shortage of materials, immediately call the Department of
Assessment at 348-0248. District finals are delivered by WCSD Warehouse. End of
Course (EOC) finals are shipped from Data Recognition Corporation (DRC). Note:
Additional materials orders for EOC finals require at least 2 weeks for processing.

Assessment [email protected] REV 11.20.2019
STC—Store secure test booklets, test tickets (DRC INSIGHT), test security and test
administration documentation in the school secure testing storage location. Do not
distribute test booklets until the first day of testing. Note: Keep EOC test booklets in
shrink-wrapped packaging until just before the testing window opens. Extra test
booklets should remain in sealed packages.
PRIOR TO THE DAY OF THE TEST:
1. Determine test administrator assignments. For district-wide and statewide assessments,
test administrators must be licensed Nevada educators employed in WCSD as a certified
teacher or in the position of a long-term substitute filling a vacancy (not hired through
AESOP).
Test administrators and assisting proctors must participate in annual training in the
Primer, view the NDE Test Security and Administration Training video, and sign the
associated acknowledgment forms (www.washoeschools.net/Page/1248).
STC—Contact Assessment Support to verify if a current substitute teacher may be
authorized to administer district and state assessments.
STC—The school test coordinator should be available to support all testing rooms
during large-scale administrations and should not be assigned to proctor testing.
2. Read all directions (TAM) for the test administration and review test security
procedures and professional responsibilities detailed in the annual WCSD Primer. If
providing read aloud (human reader) or scribe supports and accommodations, read the
associated guidelines. The Confidentiality Agreement Form must be read and signed by
all staff assigned to read the test aloud, act as a scribe, transcribe student responses for
scoring, or provide other accommodations that may allow access to secure test content
including student responses.
TA—Highlight and flag sections that must be read aloud (test day script) to students
for the tests you will administer. Review the script and ask questions during training as
needed.
Review “Tips to Maximize Testing Time for Students” included at the end of this
manual.
3. Attend school test administration training. Discuss responsibilities, procedures for test
security and test administration, accommodations and supports for testing, scheduling,
logistics, plan for providing extended time, procedure for reporting irregularities, etc. This
is the time to check for understanding and ask questions.
4. STC—Inform all staff of the testing schedule, emergency procedures during testing, and
expectations for maintaining an appropriate testing environment and controlling against
disruptions (e.g. use of P.A. system, unauthorized entry to testing rooms, receiving late
students).
5. Communicate essential information to students and families including: schedules for
testing, policies for electronic devices and personal items in the testing environment,

expectations for academic integrity and consequences for cheating, plagiarism or other
prohibited behaviors, attendance requirements, grading and reporting timelines, and final
test make-up procedures.
6. Read/review instructions for creating answer sheets through the assessment and data
management system, SchoolCity. Rosters in SchoolCity are updated weekly based on
student schedules (course enrollment) in Infinite Campus.
7. TA—Print answer sheets from the SchoolCity system for each tested class. Note: If
there is an option to choose GradeCam answer sheets, a document camera is required
for scoring. Closely check the answer sheets for each class to make sure the correct
course title, semester, and school year (Assessment or Test Name) is listed on the
answer sheet. The answer key is stored in the QR code/barcode at the top (SchoolCity)
or the Form Identifier code at the bottom (GradeCam). Make enough copies of the unique
course/period for each student in the class. Print the Generic Bubble Sheet and write in
the name and student number for any students enrolling late and not already on the
roster. An unused copy of the Generic Bubble Sheet and unused course/period-specific
answer sheets must be provided to the school test coordinator for make-up test
administration. SchoolCity support--contact: [email protected],
(348-0248)
8. In addition to attendance rosters for documenting participation, print testing room log
sheets to document all persons entering/exiting the room during the testing period,
and to record incidents of irregularities.
9. Prepare the testing room. Remove or cover any unauthorized aids (e.g. information
displayed on bulletin boards, chalk/dry-erase boards, charts, posters, and other materials
on walls or desks) that students could use as cues or triggers and assist students in
answering questions. When in doubt, cover it up or remove it. See: 2019-2020 Primer
10. Review calculator policies, guidelines and procedures. Calculator usage is
determined by the specific constructs being assessed on each assessment. If using
school provided graphing calculators (Algebra 2 finals), clear calculator memory prior to
the test date.
Note: Calculator Clearing Guidelines are provided as a separate document and must be
kept secure. These guidelines are namely for courses testing with the use of a graphing
calculator and not for general distribution.

ON THE DAY OF THE TEST:
1. STC—Count out one test booklet for each student assigned to a testing room or session.
Provide one additional test booklet for test administrators providing read aloud
support/accommodation. Test tickets for DRC INSIGHT are specific to each student.
TA/STC—Follow a check-out and check-in system to record who has which test
booklets (or test tickets) at all times. Test booklets (and test tickets) must never be left
unattended in classrooms, in teacher’s office boxes, or handed off to any unauthorized
persons. All inventory and exchanges of secure test materials must be
documented and supervised by the school test coordinator.
Home/Hospital teachers administering district or state assessments off-site must
personally check-out and return secure test materials within the same school day.
Secure test materials must not be left in vehicles or stored in any off-site location.
2. All students should have the opportunity to test under similar conditions. Post a
“Testing” sign on the classroom door to discourage interruptions.
3. Students must be supervised by authorized educational personnel (NV licensed educator)
while having access to secure test materials.
4. Provide all materials required for testing. Because students may not have access to
personal items during testing, require students to have all permissible materials set out
on their desk before distributing test booklets. For all paper administrations of district
common math, biology, and NV EOC finals:
Students must use pencil only (No. 2) on their answer sheet and should have an
eraser on hand. Stray marks or partial erasures on the answer sheet may present
issues during scanning and scoring.
Highlighters and colored pens or pencils may be used in the test booklet only.
Separate scratch paper is not permitted unless specified for a particular test. Ample
space is provided next to test items. Students are to work out problems and do any
figuring or scratch work on the pages of the test booklet.
Test booklets must remain intact. Reference or math formula sheets must not be
removed or torn from test booklets. If a page is separated or torn from the test booklet,
insert the page where it belongs. A test returned with missing, loose, or containing
extra pages may be invalidated.
5. Possession of personal electronic devices is strictly prohibited for all students and
staff during the testing period. Cell phones, iPods, eReaders, Smart Watches, etc. must

Washoe County School District – Department of Assessment
Assessment [email protected] REV 11.20.2019
be turned off and collected or stored away from students prior to distributing test
materials. Follow security procedures for students with accommodations authorizing use
of medical devices, assistive technology, and specialized calculators during testing.
Students may not access electronic devices and personal items until after testing
materials for ALL students have been collected and accounted for by the test
administrator, and the testing period has ended.
Note: Test materials for students requiring extra time in a different location must be
collected, transferred to and transported by authorized educational personnel.
Use efficient procedures for the collection, temporary storage, and return of non-
permissible personal items brought in by students to maximize the time allotted for
students to test.
DO NOT return personal items to a student until after they have completed testing.
6. Inform students of consequences for cheating and possession of electronic devices or
other non-permissible materials. Consequences for cheating and other prohibited
behaviors include invalidating the test and school disciplinary action. Invalidated tests will
receive a score of zero. There are no test retakes for district or state (EOC) final exams.
7. Students may not receive assistance beyond making certain they understand test
directions.
8. Students may not provide assistance of any kind to other students.
9. Calculators, other tools and materials may not be shared between students during a test.
10. Read the TAM (Test Administrator’s Manual) script and authorized supplemental
scripts verbatim, and adhere to all instructions.
Test questions may NOT be translated into another language. Directions and read
aloud accommodations or supports must be delivered in ENGLISH only, with the
exception of a sign language interpreter for deaf and hard of hearing students.
11. Encourage students to attempt all test items but be careful not to imply that they should
randomly guess. Inform students that blank answers will be marked wrong.
12. If a student reports an issue with a test item, tell the student to respond to the question
and that the item will be reported. Note the test name and item number on the test
session log sheet and notify the school test coordinator when returning materials that
same day. School test coordinators must report test/item issues to the Department of
Assessment (Assessment Support) immediately or on the same day a report is received.
13. Circulate throughout the room. Actively monitor students to ensure they are working
independently and adhering to procedures. Test administrators and proctors must not
engage in other activities (e.g., grading assignments, checking email, reading, working
on/using computing and other electronic devices, any activity that takes attention away
from students) during test administration.

AFTER TESTING:
1. Collect and account for all materials—test booklets including all pages, school
calculators, pencils, patty paper (Geometry tests), test tickets (DRC INSIGHT) and
scratch paper for online tests, etc. Prepare to return used and unused test booklets in the
order received. Collect materials provided for accommodations. Clear student owned
calculators and AT device(s), and check bilingual dictionaries for written notes. Test
materials and information from the test must be secured. Students are to leave the room
with only their personal belongings.
2. Before students are dismissed from the testing room, ensure that the numbers of
collected test booklets and answer sheets, (or test tickets for DRC INSIGHT), match
exactly the quantities that were signed out from the school test coordinator and distributed
to students.
3. As soon as possible and before the end of the school day, report all incidents and
irregularities from the test administration to the School Test Coordinator or Principal.
The designated site administrator must report testing irregularities to Assessment
Support. If an incident involved suspected or confirmed student cheating, keep separate
all related evidence including used test booklets and answer sheets.
4. At the conclusion of testing for the day, follow school procedures for sorting test materials,
and return all test booklets IN NUMERICAL ORDER to the school test coordinator or
designated site administrator.
TA—Indicate to the school test coordinator which students were absent and need to
make up the test. Return the individual and generic student answer sheets to be kept
for make-up testing.
STC—Separate out three or more unused test booklets from each test given to use for
make-up administrations. Note the serial number on the test booklet (or number of
EOC finals test booklets) kept for the make-up window and provide this information to
Assessment Support.
Test materials must be locked in the school’s secure testing storage each night.
Test booklets and test tickets must NOT be stored overnight in classrooms. Following
testing and before teachers leave campus each day, all secure test booklets and test
tickets must be returned and checked in to the school test coordinator or designated
site administrator.
5. TA—Organize answer sheets by class and section, and score them as soon as possible
(SchoolCity Scan). For assistance, contact: [email protected]
Answer sheets from district common finals must be scanned using SchoolCity Scan or
GradeCam applications only. Scanning or creating an electronic copy of used
answer sheets in any other system is a violation of test security. Once scanned
and any errors have been corrected, results must be uploaded to SchoolCity Suite for
reporting.
Do not score answer sheets while students are present. Answer sheets must only
be scored (including SchoolCity Scan and GradeCam options) by the teacher.
Test Administration Manual for District Common Finals: Math, Biology, EOC—2019-2020 7
Washoe County School District – Department of Assessment
Assessment [email protected] REV 11.20.2019
Report unresolved errors in scanning to Assessment Support, 348-0248.
Incorrectly imported assessment data must be removed from the SchoolCity system to
ensure accurate reporting.
Securely store used answer sheets IMMEDIATELY after the testing session and
after scoring. Leaving answer sheets out in the open is a violation of test security and
may result in the invalidation of student scores, or an opportunity for students to cheat.
Following scoring, return* used answer sheets from district common finals and NV
EOC finals to the school test coordinator.
*Math 6-8 Courses: Teachers will retain used answer sheets. Securely store (locked
storage with limited access) used answer sheets in the classroom through the end of
the school year, then discard by shredding.
6. STC—Securely store, in the school’s secure testing cabinet, all used and scored answer
sheets through next quarter (approximately 9 weeks into the subsequent school term).
Discard used answer sheets, patty paper, test tickets and scratch paper by shredding.
7. STC—Organize and return test books in-person (hand-deliver) to the Department of
Assessment according to published return schedules. Secure test books must never be
transferred or returned through school mail. Do not leave test booklets in an
unattended vehicle.
Return all large print, Braille, and other special print test materials to the Department of
Assessment.
Unused test booklets for make-up administrations must be kept in the school’s secure
testing storage and returned immediately after the standard 3-week make-up window
closes. Contact Assessment Support regarding students with extenuating
circumstances.
During each exchange, secure test materials may be supervised and handled by
authorized school and district staff only. Do not hand-off secure test materials to
unauthorized persons. Contact Assessment Support if someone other than a site
administrator will be returning secure test booklets to the district.

Accessibility: Designated Supports and Accommodations
Designated supports and accommodations for testing allowed on district common finals in
math and science, and Nevada End of Course (EOC) finals in ELA and math, are consistent
with those allowed for Nevada state criterion referenced tests (CRT) in the same content
areas. Access forms, approved resources, and guidance for testing accommodations and
designated supports on the district website: https://www.washoeschools.net/Page/3568.
For all students, designated supports and accommodations provided for testing must be
documented and consistent with those regularly used by the student during instruction and on
other assessments. An accessibility support should not be used solely during assessments.
Note: Providing students with accessibility supports that are not truly needed may have a
negative impact on performance.
1. Designated supports and accommodations for testing must be listed in the student’s IEP,
Section 504 Accommodations Plan, or EL supports plan. Note: For English learner
students with a documented disability, all designated supports, accommodations, and
language supports afforded the students must be listed in the IEP or 504 Plan for that
student.
2. Teacher/TA—Review each student’s IEP, Section 504 Plan, and/or EL Plan with the
school test coordinator to ensure each student’s accessibility needs are provided for
during testing. General education students may be afforded designated supports on
summative assessments.
3. Prior to the day of a test, teachers should work with the school test coordinator to ensure
that test administrators and proctors know what accessibility supports each student will be
using and how to administer them properly.
4. Changes to the testing environment or “local arrangements” may be appropriate for one or
more students with or without an individual plan. Supports include separate setting,
individualized testing, specialized furniture, or a noise buffer (i.e. individually worn noise
blocker or dampener). These do not include noise machines or music, fidget toys, or other
items that may be distracting or disruptive to the testing environment.
5. Contact Assessment Support to discuss student needs for accommodations not already
authorized or generally allowed.
MODIFICATIONS ARE PROHIBITED:
Testing modifications are changes made to the testing process or to the content of the
assessment itself that may change, lower, or reduce learning expectations. Testing
modifications may also alter the underlying construct of the assessment. Certain
accommodations may become modifications, depending on the purpose and design of the
test. Testing modifications affect the validity of the test results.
No notes. Prepared notes in any form or of any content are not permitted.
Tests may not be modified. Do not shorten or remove items. Test administrators may
not provide simplification, clarification, or explanation of test questions/items.

Grades may not be modified. Only raw scores will be entered into the grade book.
Contact Assessment Support regarding supports listed in a student’s plan that are not
specifically allowed for use on district common finals.
COMMONLY USED ACCESSIBILITY SUPPORTS:
1. Extended Time. Students with extra time, additional time, or extended time written into
their IEP, 504 Plan, or EL Plan (EL and former EL in monitor status) may be allowed
extended testing time equal to time-and-a-half or 150% of the allotted time for all students.
Some IEP and Section 504 eligible students may have an accommodation for double time
or 200% of the allotted time for the test.
a. For all students receiving extended time or double time on paper administrations of
district common finals and NV EOC finals, 1) test must be completed within the same
school day, and 2) prevent students from returning to previous items or changing
responses after an unsupervised break or if released to another class and returning
afterward to finish testing.
b. Online tests that do not have a break point must be completed in one supervised
testing period (no unsupervised breaks). For the timed Biology Honors final
(SchoolCity), contact Assessment Support to request extended time or double time for
individual students. The NV EOC ELA Part 2 test in DRC INSIGHT is not timed.
2. Human Reader, Scribe. Designated supports and accommodations for testing that allow
the test administrator access to secure test content, including test items and student
responses, requires authorized personnel to sign the Confidentiality Agreement Form
prior to testing. Download forms from the district website:
http://washoeschools.net/Page/3568
a. A student may dictate math, science, or ELA non-writing item responses to a scribe.
b. A student may be provided read aloud assistance in ENGLISH only or an interpreter
may sign using ASL or Signed-Exact-English for test items, excluding ELA reading
passages.
c. ELA reading passages may be read aloud for students with a documented
accommodation in their IEP or 504 Plan for reading of all text and passages. Note:
This accommodation may be appropriate for fewer than 2% of students.
d. For online administrations using SchoolCity or DRC INSIGHT, Text-to-Speech may be
enabled for students who need text read aloud.
3. Language Supports and Accommodations.
a. EL (and former EL in monitor status) students may use a bilingual word-to-word style
dictionary on math and science tests.
b. Deaf/Hard of Hearing (D/HH) students may use a word-to-signed symbol style
dictionary on math and science tests.

Assessment [email protected] REV 11.20.2019
4. Personal Electronic Devices. Must be documented in the student’s IEP or 504 Plan as a
needed accommodation. Students may have access to or use:
a. Medical devices authorized for use in the testing environment: If the student requires
access or proximity to an active mobile phone/device for medical monitoring, the
mobile device must be placed on a table or desk near the student, but not within reach
of the accommodated student or other students in the testing room. Access to the
device must be supervised by the test administrator. At the conclusion of testing, the
test administrator must verify in writing that the device was not used to access the
internet, other applications including social media, take pictures or video, or send
communications.
b. Assistive technology (AT) and specialized calculators (i.e. Braille, talking) authorized
for use during testing. Applications including internet or camera access must be
disabled prior to testing. At the conclusion of testing, the test administrator must verify
in writing that the device was not used to access other applications. Clear (delete,
erase) student responses and test content from AT devices and calculators
immediately after testing.
Download forms for certification of proper use from the district website:
http://washoeschools.net/Page/3568
5. Visually Impaired Students. Request specially formatted test materials 6 or more weeks
before testing.
a. For online administrations using SchoolCity or DRC INSIGHT, plan for the student to
work through the available practice or training tests to ensure they are able to fully
access the test on the computer. If magnification tools, computer settings, and
compatible assistive technology are not sufficient, then a paper option may need to be
requested.
b. TC—Contact Assessment Support to request print test materials for students requiring
large print, Braille, or other special print formats. Submit requests for special print
materials at least 6 weeks before the testing window opens. All printed versions of
secure test booklets must be returned to the Department of Assessment.

Test Administration Instructions
Read prior to testing. Highlight text for quick review of important details.
Use a seating chart to manage the testing environment and student participation, and
protect against threats of cheating and theft.
Gather student’s personal items or direct students to store items in a designated
location. Place all personal materials and belongings, including backpacks, purses,
jackets, water bottles, food items, electronic devices, etc., in a secure, easy to monitor
location in the room away from students and their desks. During testing, students may
not access personal items.
Non-permissible devices and materials are strictly prohibited unless specified in
the student’s IEP, Section 504 Plan, or EL Plan. Check with the School Test
Coordinator as needed.
Workspaces must be cleared of all non-permissible materials, and students focused
and quiet before distributing materials required for testing (i.e. No. 2 pencils, allowed
calculator, patty paper for geometry tests, answer sheet and test booklet, scratch
paper for online testing, test ticket for DRC INSIGHT).
Read aloud the script verbatim and answer any questions students may have.
Continuously walk around the classroom and monitor the students.
Students may be reminded not to spend too much time on any one item or that when
they finish, they should go back and check their answers. Otherwise, observe and
monitor, but do not interfere. Announce when there are 15 and 5 minutes remaining.
To help with security and materials management, collect testing materials from
students as they finish the test, checking for any loose pages, and clear
calculators if applicable. Continue to monitor students.
Students who have finished may not access personal belongings until after all test
books, materials and answer sheets are collected and the testing period is ended.
Follow the school’s plan for additional time requests and students with extended time
accommodations. Let these students know what they will be doing and direct them
accordingly. DO NOT ALLOW students to transport their own test materials.
High School Course Finals: Students, including students testing with
accommodations, must complete the test the same day it is started.
Immediately following the end of the scheduled testing period and before dismissing
students or transitioning: 1) Collect all answer sheets, test booklets, and other testing
materials from students, and 2) Clear data from all graphing and programmable
calculators.

Tips to Maximize Testing Time for Students
*Note: These testing protocols should be utilized during regular classroom assessments as
well to help encourage a secure testing routine.
Communicate Expectations to Students in Advance:
Prior to the day of testing, let students know the amount of time they will have to complete the
exam. While students should not feel rushed and some students may complete the exam in less
time, students will need to pace themselves to finish in the time given.
Communicate to students the importance of being early or on time to class to maximize their
testing time.
Review seating expectations with students and tell students how they will find their seat
assignment on the day of the test.
Tell students in advance that they will need to place personal belongings in the front of the
classroom. This includes turning off electronic devices and placing them in backpacks or giving
electronics to the teacher for safe-keeping during the testing period.
Let students know they will not be allowed to access their personal belongings (except labeled
reading materials) until the end of the testing period.
If print reading materials will be allowed for students finishing their test early, these must be
labeled with student names and collected at the front of the room before testing begins. Inform
students that after turning in their completed test, they may read print material (if allowed for your
school/classroom) or put their head down. No writing/doodling is allowed.
Tell students that they are expected to maintain a quiet and respectful testing environment until
the end of the testing period.
Room Environment:
Check the testing room and remove or cover any unauthorized aids (e.g. information displayed on
bulletin boards, chalk/dry-erase boards, charts, posters, and other materials on walls or desks)
that might provide instruction or assist students in answering questions. For details or further
direction see your School Test Coordinator (see also the 2019-2020 Primer).
Arrange desks to allow for the maximum space possible between test takers. Test takers should
all face one direction and the proctor should be able to see test takers at all times. Use a seating
chart to separate students and discourage prohibited behaviors.
Write instructions on the board for students to read before the class period begins. Detail steps for
placing personal belongings in the designated location, checking in electronic devices and reading
material, etc.
Once the testing period has started, students should remain seated and raise their hand if they
need something from the teacher. As you monitor and walk about the room, carry extra pencils or
tissues to distribute to students at their seat.
Answer Sheets:
Prior to the day of testing, pre-bubble student names (Class Roster answer sheet template) or
check for printed student names (Individual Student answer sheet template) on answer sheets.

Assessment [email protected] REV 11.20.2019
This helps eliminate the issue of no-name tests as well as making sure answer sheets are printed
for absent students who will need to make-up the test.
Tip: Before admitting students into the room on the day of testing, place prepared answer
sheets on desks. Instruct students to leave their personal belongings (including electronic
devices) at the front of the room as they enter, taking only their pencil and eraser, then sit at
the desk that has their answer sheet. This helps with strategic placement of students.
Caution: Before distributing test booklets, verify that students are in the correct seat and have
the correct answer sheet.
Clearing Calculators:
If using class sets of calculators, clear them in advance whenever possible. Calculators can then
be placed on desks along with answer sheets prior to students entering the testing environment.
If students are using their own calculators, have them pass them to the front of each row before
testing begins. As students begin testing, the instructor can clear calculators and then hand them
back to students as quickly as possible. Note: A calculator may not be needed for every test item.
If students are using a common calculator model, the teacher may instruct students on how to
reset the calculator memory up to the final reset screen:
Then, the teacher should quickly walk around the room directing each student to press the “Yes”
button, and verifying the memory has been cleared.
When students finish the exam:
During testing, teachers must continuously monitor by walking about the room and observing all
areas of the testing environment. The teacher may collect and organize test materials as students
finish the test, provided they do not disturb or distract students testing. Teachers may also clear
calculators as they walk the room.
Keeping up with collection and organization, and clearing calculators throughout the testing
period helps maintain test security and allows the teacher to be ready for the next testing
period.
To prevent students from feeling rushed as others finish the test, require students to remain in
their seats throughout the testing period. As they finish testing, collect test materials from
students at their seats, minimizing distractions to students still testing.
Students who finish early may put their heads down and rest or they may read print material (no
electronic devices) that has been placed at the front of the room. Students may not access
materials from their personal bags and backpacks for any reason.
Watch for students who will need additional time and be ready to collect their materials quickly
before the period ends.
Students must not access personal belongings until the testing period has ended.

HS/MS—Algebra and Geometry Courses
Test Materials, Timing, Grading and Gradebook Setup
Test Materials:
1. Geometry and Formal Geometry tests only, students may be provided with
tracing/patty paper for the exam. All used and unused tracing/patty paper must be
logged, collected, and securely destroyed after testing.
2. Calculators: Students should use the same calculator during instruction and on
assignments that they will use on test day. Remind students that a calculator may not
be the best tool for all test questions. It may help to do scratch work in the test book
and get their thoughts down before using a calculator. For some questions it may be
better not to use a calculator, even though it is allowed.
Calculators may not be shared during a test. Each student must bring or be
provided with their own calculator to use throughout the testing period.
Scientific calculators (non-graphing, non-programmable calculators) are
allowed/permissible on the Algebra 1 (including foundations and 2-year),
Geometry (including foundations), and Formal Geometry tests
Graphing (programmable) calculators cleared before and after testing are
allowed on the Algebra 2 (including foundations) and Algebra 2 Honors tests;
see calculator clearing guidelines for directions on preparing calculators for
testing
Timing:
Each test is designed to be completed in the standard 105 minutes allotted for finals and a
maximum of 15 additional minutes. See accommodations/designated supports guidance on
extended time for eligible IEP, 504, or EL program students. All students must complete the
test before leaving campus (within the same school day). Students may not return to
previously viewed items or change responses after an unsupervised break.
Grading and Gradebook Setup
I. High School Courses and Middle School ACCEL Algebra 2
Teachers must set up weighted categories in the Infinite Campus grade book. The
weight of the final exam category must be set at 15-20% of the overall semester grade
and must be consistent for all sections of a course within the same school. Grades
from all other assessments and course assignments must be posted in other
categories within the Infinite Campus grade book.
When weighting categories, make sure all category weights add up to 100%.
In courses that administer a Nevada End of Course final (Math I and Math II) at the
end of the second semester or trimester, the grade weight of the final test category is
the same for all schools and is set at 15% for the 2019-2020, school year.

II. Middle School Algebra 1 and Integrated Math II
For courses: 228 Algebra 1, 776 ACCEL Algebra 1, 773 ACCEL HS INT Math II
Teachers of these courses have a separate grading task titled T2 Algebra Final
(semester 1) and T4 Algebra Final (semester 2).
Within the Algebra Final grading task, teachers will create the final exam assignment
and enter the test date, scores, and comment if needed. The Algebra Final grading
task is weighted 15% of the semester grade. Term 1, 2, 3, and 4 Overall Grade
grading tasks are weighted equally to each other.
III. ALL COURSES, final test “assignment” entries:
For the assignment Name, use the course name, semester, and “Final”. Example:
“Algebra 2 Honors S1 Final”. For End of Course finals, use the name of the test (i.e.
Math I EOC Final, Math II EOC Final).
The Due Date/Assigned Date should reflect the test administration date and may vary
by class period.
The Pts Poss column is based on the points possible for the test as reported in
SchoolCity, and must be entered exactly the same into the Infinite Campus gradebook
by all teachers of that course.
The Score and % column will vary by student and should match the exact raw score
reported in SchoolCity.
IV. INC/Incomplete Grades and Make-up Administrations
Students who are absent and do not make-up the semester (or trimester) final exam
before the end of the grading period must* be given an incomplete for the semester
grade in accordance with these procedures.
a. In the final exam assignment “Score” column, enter the score “M” for “missing”.
This score (M) will equate to a zero raw score and be calculated into the overall
grade.
b. In the grade detail “Comments” for the final exam assignment, enter or select
“*Missing”.
c. In the Semester Grade grading task, enter “INC” for “incomplete. The overall
percentage will still be visible, but no credit will be given.
d. Select the report card comment, “See instructor to make-up final/semester
exam.” (Grading Comments, code 40)
*Note for 2c and 2d: If the overall semester performance for a student is failing, and
making up the final exam will not improve the overall grade to a passing grade, the
teacher may proceed with assigning a grade of “F” in step 2c. Do not apply the
grading comment in 2d. The grade will post as an “F” and no credit will be
awarded.
Work with the school test coordinator to ensure students are provided the opportunity
to make-up missing final exams.

Math 6-8: Timing, Scores/Gradebook Setup
Timing:
Each test is designed to be completed within 90 minutes. Data from the year 1 pilot showed
most students can complete the full test in under 60 minutes. Schools may decide to
administer each final as a one or two-day administration. Scheduling must be the same for all
sections (teachers) of the same course. For a one-day administration, schedule 90 minutes.
For a two-day administration, schedule two 45 minute blocks. Students must not be allowed
to return to previously viewed items or change responses after an unsupervised break.
Students with an IEP, 504 Plan, or EL Plan allowing extended time for testing should be
appropriately accommodated.
Ensure any absent students are provided the opportunity to make-up missing final exams
before the end of the semester, or within three weeks of the subsequent semester.
Scores/Grading and Gradebook Setup
All teachers will report scores through SchoolCity (all middle and some elementary schools)
or by submitting data to Assessment Support (select middle schools.
For the Year 2 Pilot, teachers have the option of including the grade from the final exam in
their gradebook. The decision to include the final exam in a student’s grade must be the
consistent for all sections (teachers) of the same course; consistent across the grade level.
Including the Final Exam Grade in Infinite Campus Gradebook:
A separate category may be set up that includes only the final exam and the
category weighted at no more than 20% of the overall grade.
When weighting categories, make sure all category weights add up to 100%.
For the assignment Name, use the course name, semester, and “Final”. Example:
“Math 6 S1 Final”.
The Due Date/Assigned Date should reflect the test administration date and may
vary by class period.
The Pts Poss column is based on the points possible for the test.
The Score and % column will vary by student and should match the exact raw
score.
