You have to wear apron before start to make something. If you don’t, your clothes will be dirty.

Safety Goggles - Safety goggles are used to protect the eyes of the wearer during activities where eye injury is a risk.

Drill - It is a hand tool, power tool, or machine with a rotating cutting tip or reciprocating hammer or chisel, used for making holes.

Tri - Square - It is used for marking right angles on a work-piece or checking the "squareness" of something, i.e. that an angle is a right angle.

Using Tenon Saw(Video)

Tenon Saw - The commonest type of back saw. The tenon saw is a mid-sized saw that gets its name from its use in cutting tenons for mortise and tenon joinery. Like all back saws it has a stiffening cap over the top edge of the blade, which prevents flexing of the blade and provides good control when cutting.

Using Pull Saw(Video)

Using Smoothing Plane(Video)

Smoothing Plane - A smoothing plane or smooth plane is a type of bench plane used in woodworking. The smoothing plane is typically the last plane used on a wood surface - when used properly, the finish it gives will be far superior to that made by sandpaper or scrapers.

Using disc sander(Video)

Using coping saw(Video)

Coping Saw - A coping saw is a type of hand jaw used to cut intricate external shapes and interior cutouts in woodworking or carpentry. It is widely used to cut moldings to create coped rather than miter joints. It is occasionally used to create fretwork though it is not able to match a fretsaw in intricacy of cut, particularly in thin materials. Coping saw blades are always thicker and much coarser cutting than typical fretsaw blades.

MAKING COSMETIC ORGANIZER 1(11/01/17/Mon)

EMOTION

I was very happy because I started making the cosmetic organizer. I am really expecting that I make great cosmetic organizer. However, measuring the sides were very difficult. I felt tired.

WHAT I DID & WHY

From the beginning of the class, I marked and measured a bottom and 2 sides on the wood. Their sizes are 180 x 180 x 10 and 2 for 180 x 170 x 10. In fact, writing a size of the side is very hard because the shape of the side is stairs. It is hard to describe the size.

WHAT TOOLS DID I USE

I used ruler, pencil, eraser and tri-square. Ruler for measuring the length, and tri-square for drawing a straight line. I also used tri-square for drawing the straight line all around the wood like the last picture in case I cut the wood on the wrong way. Some students cut the wood out of the line.

LEARNER PROFILE

I think I am a carer because I tried not to waste the wood. I used the corner of the wood for marking the bottom. The shape of the bottom is a square. It fits right on the corner of the wood.

PLAN

My plan is to cut the bottom and sides. After I cut them, I will start to measure and mark the front and back part of the product.

AREAS OF INTERACTION(AOI)

I think it is Human Ingenuity. I can give this product to people who need a cosmetic organizer. I think that teenagers will like this cosmetic organizer because it is playful and decorative. For me, I will give cosmetic organizer to my younger sister. She really needs cosmetic organizer because her cosmetics such as nail polishes and lipsticks are lying on the floor. I will give her the product for the environment of the room.

EMOTION

Today was very fun because it was my first time to use the plane. Sometimes, I felt tired due to the smoothing plane. Using it was little bit difficult for me. However, after I finished planing, I satisfied at the parts.

WHAT I DID & WHY

I continued to cut the bottom and sides because I haven’t finished cutting yet. I used tenon saw and pull saw. Tenon saw is the saw for cutting the wood, however, the top of the tenon saw is covered by Brass back. Brass back is for cutting the wood straightly. If I couldn’t saw anymore, I had to cut the wood to use pull saw. That is because pull saw doesn’t have brass back. It is also efficient because it can cut the wood faster and easier. Then I planed the bottom and sides for shaving the useless part of the wood which was the space between cut line and pencil line. For fitting the parts exactly, I had to plane the edges of the wood. As you see the picture next to the text, planing was little bit hard. It is weighty and its blade is not so sharp.

LEARNER PROFILE

I think I am a risk taker because I researched about the safety rules about using smoothing plane. I also asked Mr. Anderson about how to use the smoothing plane.

PLAN

My plan is to measure and mark the front and back part of the product. Their sizes are 180 x 170 x 10 and 180 x 70 x 10. After I finish measuring and marking on the wood, I will start to cut them.

CHANGES TO YOUR PLAN

I wrote ‘After I cut them, I will start to measure and marke the front and back part of the product.’ at the first process journal. However, I needed to plane the wood.

AREAS OF INTERACTION(AOI)

I think it is Environment. I can save the materials such as paint, wood, sand paper, glue and screw during creating the product. If only I do not waste the wood, people have to cut the wood little bit. If all the students save the wood and try not to waste the wood, lots of trees will be cut. The more I save the materials, the more I save the environment.

MAKING COSMETIC ORGANIZER 3(11/01/21/Fri)

EMOTION

Today was busy because I wanted to finish all the parts of the cosmetic organizer.

WHAT I DID & WHY

I finished all the parts of the cosmetic organizer(2 sides, 1 front, bottom, back, 2 dividers). Firstly, I measured and marked on the wood to make front, back and dividers. I used ruler, pencil, eraser and tri-square. Ruler for measuring the length, and tri-square for drawing a straight line. I also used tri-square for drawing the straight line all around the wood. Secondly, I cut the wood to use tenon saw and pull saw. The reason I used tenon saw and pull saw is in the second process journal. Thirdly, I did very quick sanding, filing and planing. That is because files, sand paper and plane make the wood smoother. Sharp edges will hurt children by cutting their fingers.

LEARNER PROFILE

I think I am a carer because I tried not to waste the wood. I used the corner of the wood for marking the bottom. The shape of the bottom is a square. It fits right on the corner of the wood.

PLAN

My plan is to check if all the parts are smooth enough measured and marked correctly.

CHANGES TO YOUR PLAN

I wrote ‘My plan is to measure and mark the front and back part of the product.’. However, I changed my plan. I finished all the parts of the cosmetic organizer.

AREAS OF INTERACTION(AOI)

I think it is Approaches to Learning. In this unit, I learnt lots of things. For example, I learnt a number of tools that I haven't used and I knew how to cut the wood and paint the product clearly and straightly. If I want to learn more, I can ask Mr. Anderson and other students for the tools that they are using. In addition, I can share what I am using to other students.

EMOTION

Today, I was little disappointed at my work because I thought that I measured and cut all the parts of the product correctly. There was an error of the size of the bottom.

WHAT I DID & WHY

I had time for checking the parts of the cosmetic organizer. Then I found an error which is the size of the bottom. There was no gap to put the sides. Therefore, I measured the length of the thickness of the sides and cut the parts. I used tri-square, ruler, gent saw and chisel. Ruler for measuring the length, and tri-square for drawing a straight line. I also used tri-square for drawing the straight line all around the wood. Gent saw for cutting the sides of the wood. The thickness of the blade of the gent saw is very thin, so I had to use gent saw for cutting very small size of the wood. Lastly, I used chisel. It was my mistake. I didn’t have to use chisel to cut the sides. It was just the waste of time.

LEARNER PROFILE

I think I am a risk taker because I researched how to cut clearly without any broken parts or little thorns form the wood. Therefore, I cut the wood slowly and clearly. I got very nice edge of the bottom.

PLAN

My plan is to make 2 eyes(30x30x10) of the product. For drawing the eyes, I will use a jig.

CHANGES TO YOUR PLAN

I wrote ‘ My plan is to check if all the parts are smooth enough measured and marked correctly.’. I didn’t change my plan. I checked whether all the parts fit correctly or not and fixed the errors.

AREAS OF INTERACTION(AOI)

I think it is Health and Social Education. I always wore safety goggles when I am working with machines because sometimes, the wood will crack and some pieces might be thrown in the air and hit my eyes. My product also considers the safety of the society as well. I tried my best to make the wood's surfaces, corners and edges as smooth as possible so that the users do not get hurt by the sharp edges.

MAKING COSMETIC ORGANIZER 5(11/01/25/Tue)

EMOTION

Today was very interesting because I used disc sander. I really like to use disc sander.

WHAT I DID & WHY

I made the joints for the dividers. Actually, I didn’t make the joints by myself. Mr. Anderson made them for me because the machine for making the hole is dangerous and big. However, Mr. Anderson made wrong holes. As you see the third picture, there are 4 lines for the dividers. But I need only 2. I also made 2 eyes of cosmetic organizer. Making them was very easy to me even though there wasn’t enough size of jig for drawing an accurate circle. I used the object which has the round bottom and pencil because I can’t draw accurate circle without an actual circle or a jig.

LEARNER PROFILE

I think I am a carer because I tried not to waste the wood. I drew two eyes at the corner of the wood because I didn’t want to wate the wood. Also, I didn’t make the sides again even though there is a mistake.

PLAN

My plan is to make the joints for all the parts. I think that making the joints would be really hard because my project is almost made of plywood(which is very thin).

CHANGES TO YOUR PLAN

I wrote ‘My plan is to make 2 eyes(30x30x10) of the product. For drawing the eyes, I will use a jig.’. I made 2 eyes of the product, however, I didn’t use jig. Also, I made the joints for the dividers. I didn’t mention about it at the last process journal.

AREAS OF INTERACTION(AOI)

I think it is Community and Service. My product's function is to be able to arrange the cosmetics and some other small objects put in one spot. This function will help the community by making their environments cleaner and more organized. Also, in the process of creating, I did not only concentrate on my work. Some of my friends came and helped me. Then, it is a part of service.

EMOTION

Today, I felt happy because I cut and glued the wood. I really like cutting and glueing, especially glueing.

WHAT I DID & WHY

I cut the thin wood stick which is shown at the second picture to fill the wrong joints for the dividers. I used gent saw because it can cut the wood clearly. Also, the thickness of blade of the gent saw is very thin, so I was able to cut the wood without any spine from the wood stick. After I cut the wood, I started to glue the parts from the wood sticks into the wrong joints. I used PVA glue and wet tower. PVA glue isn’t dangerous for children, and it can be removed with only the wet tower.

LEARNER PROFILE

I think I am a carer because I didn’t waste the wood. I used the wood stick in the box which is the collection of the useless wood.

PLAN

My plan is to make the joints for front, bottom and eyes. I think that making the joints would be really hard because my project is almost made of plywood(which is very thin). If I have time, I would start glueing.

CHANGES TO YOUR PLAN

I wrote ‘ My plan is to make the joints for all the parts. ’. However, I haven’t started to make the joints for the bottom, eyes and even front yet.

AREAS OF INTERACTION(AOI)

I think it is Human Ingenuity. I can give this product to people who need a cosmetic organizer. I think that teenagers will like this cosmetic organizer because it is playful and decorative. EMOTION

Today was boring because I had to do the process just like the last again, which is filling the wrong holes with a thin wood stick.

WHAT I DID & WHY

I cut the thin wood stick to fill the wrong joints for the dividers. Finally, I filled a little holes with ----. I used ----- because it can cover the small holes. Also, after an hour, it changes just like the wood. However, the color of it is very bad, so I have to paint on that.

LEARNER PROFILE

I think I am a carer because I didn’t waste the wood and -------. I used the wood stick in the box which is the collection of the useless wood. Also, I used ----- very little bit.

PLAN

My plan is to glue all the parts for painting. If I have time, I would start painting.

CHANGES TO YOUR PLAN

I wrote ‘My plan is to make the joints for front, bottom and eyes.’. However, I couldn’t make the joints for those today. I didn’t have time for doing that. Also, I wrote ‘If I have time, I would start glueing.’, but I haven’t start glueing yet.

AREAS OF INTERACTION(AOI)

I think it is Environment. I can save the materials such as paint, wood, sand paper, glue and screw during creating the product. EMOTION

Today was fun because I painted the sides, however, at the beginning of the class, I made the divider again. Because the original one doesn’t fit to the joints on the sides. So I was little bit dissatisfied to me.

WHAT I DID & WHY

First, I made the divider again because the previous divider didn’t fit into the joints which are on the sides. It should be fitted exactly. I used gent saw and bench hook for making a new divider. The gent saw can cut the wood clearly. Also, the thickness of the blade is very thin. Bench hook can hold the wood strongly. Next, I painted the sides before I glue them because I won’t paint clearly and easily after I glue all the parts. I used tape, paint brush, unfolded box and water bottle for painting. Tape is very useful. If I want to paint the rectangular with very clear line, I would tape around the shape and paint on the tape and the shape wich forms in the rounded tapes. Unfolded box is for protecting that the desk is painted by the paint.

LEARNER PROFILE

I think I am a carer because I didn’t waste the wood and paint. I didn’t waste wood when I was making a new divider. I didn’t waste the paint when I was painting the sides. I dig only small amount of paint.

PLAN

My plan is to paint the bottom, dividers, back and the front as mentioned in the gantt chart. It would take about 2 classes. It would be very fun because I like painting.

CHANGES TO YOUR PLAN

I wrote ‘ My plan is to glue all the parts for painting. If I have time, I would start painting.’. I couldn’t start glueing because Mr.Anderson said that I have to paint the inside of the product before I glue all of them because it will be very hard to paint inside the product after I glued the parts.

AREAS OF INTERACTION(AOI)

I think it is Approaches to Learning. In this unit, I learnt lots of things. For example, I learnt a number of tools that I haven't used and I knew how to cut the wood and paint the product clearly and straightly. EMOTION

Today was very fun because I painted my product for a whole class. I really like painting because I can decorate the wood what I want.

WHAT I DID & WHY

I painted the sides before I glue them because I won’t paint clearly and easily after I glue all the parts.

The hardest thing was to draw the triangles on the background which will be colored in orange. Even though I used tape to paint the triangles perfectly, I painted on the black triangles with orange background color.

LEARNER PROFILE

I think I am a carer because I didn’t waste the wood and the paint. I didn’t waste the paint when I was painting the sides. I dig only small amount of paint using useless wood stick.

PLAN

My plan is to paint the paint sides, dividers and the bottom as I mentioned in the gantt chart. I think that painting all the parts would take more time that I expected in the gantt chart.

CHANGES TO YOUR PLAN

I wrote ‘My plan is to paint the bottom, dividers, back and the front.’. However, I only painted the sides. I didn’t have enough time to paint all the parts.

AREAS OF INTERACTION(AOI)

I think it is Health and Social Education. I always wore safety goggles when I am working with machines because sometimes, the wood will crack and some pieces might be thrown in the air and hit my eyes. EMOTION

Today was very busy because I wanted to paint all the parts of the product. I was happy at the end of the class because I did what I wanted to do.

WHAT I DID & WHY

I painted all parts of the product(front, back, divider 2, sides, eyes, bottom) apart from divider 1. I used tape, unfolded box, paint brush, water bottle, towel and paint. Unfolded box for preventing that my cloth or the desk. paint brush for painting, water bottle for washing the dirty paint brush, and towel for absorbing the water in the paint brush.

The most important thing for today was tape. I used tape to paint very clearly and easily. I cut the tape to the shape of triangle that I want, then painted the background color which is orange. Next, I teared off the tape like picture 1.

LEARNER PROFILE

I think I am a carer because I didn’t waste the wood and the paint. I didn’t waste the paint when I was painting the sides. I dig only small amount of paint using useless wood stick.

PLAN

My plan is to finish painting. I have to take out the tapes that I attached on the wood. Also I have to paint over again for hiding the pencil line or not painted parts.

CHANGES TO YOUR PLAN

I wrote ‘My plan is to paint the paint sides, dividers and the bottom.’. However, I painted all the parts, not only sides, dividers and the bottom.

AREAS OF INTERACTION(AOI)

WHAT I DID

I painted the product just like yesterday. After I finish painting and glueing, I am going to make a drawer. For making drawer, I had to research about how to make it. And I am going to make very simple drawer which looks like the picture 1.

RESEARCH

1. Design the box. Determine the number of drawers I want and the size that I want them to be.->The number of drawers : 1, The size of drawer : 170 x 170 x 50

2. Cut the top and bottom of the box as well as the sides and back.->Top&Bottom : 180 x 180 x 10, Sides&Back : 180 x 70 x 10

4. Measure the drawer on the wood. Make the drawers smaller to allow them to slide in or out.->Bottom : 170 x 170 x 10, Sides&Back : 170 x 50 x 10

5. Cut wood for the drawers.

6. Paint all the parts of the box and the drawer.

Sides Inside : x, Outside : Black triangules with orage background color

3 sides : Inside : Black, Outside : Black1 side(where the handle will be attached) : Black triangules with orage background color

Bottom Inside : x, Outside : x Inside : Black, Outside : Black

7. Nail the sides of the box to the top and bottom pieces. Nail the back onto the box. Fill any holes with putty.

8. Assemble the drawers by nailing the sides, back, front and bottom together.

9. Sand and stain the box and the drawer.

10. Attach a drawer handle to the drawer. Put the drawer into the box.

11. FINISH!!!

EMOTION

Today was very happy because I like glueing. Actually, I like the smell of PVA glue. I think that it is very addictive.

WHAT I DID & WHY

I painted the remain parts by using paint brush, unfolded box and paint. I didn’t use the water bottle for today because I didn’t need it. I spent only 5 minutes to paint.

I glued the eyes on the back of the product. I used PVA glue, wet tower and G-clamp. PVA glue is non-toxic glue, even children can use the PVA glue. Also, it is very safe because we can clean the glue off by using wet tower. PVA glue is very easy to clean it off. For cleaning off the PVA glue, I used the wet tower. I used G-clamp for fastening the eyes and the back. If I don’t use G-clamp, the eyes and the back wouldn’t be able to attached perfectly.

LEARNER PROFILE

I think I am a carer because I didn’t waste the wood, glue and the paint. I didn’t waste the paint when I was painting the sides. I dig only small amount of paint using useless wood stick. Also, I used very small amount of glue.

PLAN

My plan is to glue the sides, front, dividers and bottom of the product. I think that I will finish this product after about 2 classes as I mentioned in my Gantt chart.

CHANGES TO YOUR PLAN

I wrote ‘My plan is to finish painting’ for the last process journal. However, I even haven’t finished painting until today’s class.

AREAS OF INTERACTION(AOI)

I think it is Environment. I can save the materials such as paint, wood, sand paper, glue and screw during creating the product. EMOTION

Today was very hard because I had to drill the hole for putting the nails. Drilling hole was the hardest process ever I’ve done.

WHAT I DID & WHY

At the beginning of the class. I marked on the wood for making a drawer. I used square ruler and a pencil. Square ruler makes the line straight and makes the angle between the side of the wood and the line 90 degrees. Then I cut the wood. I used tenon saw because there was enough space to use tenon saw and tenon saw can cut fast. Tenon saw needs about 3mm because tenon saw could make the thorns very easily.

After that, I marked for the holes. I used pencil for marking. Then, I drilled the holes by using cordless drill, G-clamp and a piece of old cloth. Cordless drill is very convenient. There is no cord. G-clamp makes the object can’t move if there is any forces to move the object. A piece of old cloth is for protecting the face of the part for not scratching by the G-clamp.

LEARNER PROFILE

I think I am risk taker because I researched about how to make the drawer.

PLAN

My plan is to get the work which is screwing done. I didn’t mention in the Gantt Chart that I will screw the parts. I think I will take about 2 more classes to get it done.

CHANGES TO YOUR PLAN

I wrote ‘My plan is to glue the sides, front, dividers and bottom of the product.’ in the last process journal. However, actually, I didn’t glue the parts. I screwed the parts.

AREAS OF INTERACTION(AOI)

EMOTION

Today was extremely happy because I finished screwing. Also, I am very satisfied with this cosmetic organizer.

WHAT I DID & WHY

I took off all the screws in order to make a counter sink. I didn’t make a counter sink when I was drilling the hole. A counter sink is the bigger hole that is drill in about 1mm deep because it is for the head of the screw. The head of the screw has to be in the wood, otherwise it would be very difficult to put the product into very tight space.

After I made all the counter sinks. I used a screw driver for screw the screws. It was very hard to do, but if I didn’t make a hole for that, screwing would be the most difficult process.

LEARNER PROFILE

I think I am risk taker because I researched about how to make the drawer. I used both internet and the book. I used two types of resources for researching. The evidence is in the page 13.

PLAN

My plan is to start making a drawer. I didn’t mention is the Gantt Chart, however, I am going to make a drawer in order to make this more useful and helpful. I cut the wood for front part of the drawer already. All I have to do is to disc sand and cut other sides.

CHANGES TO YOUR PLAN

I wrote ‘My plan is to get the work which is screwing done.’. I get this work done. There is no change to my plan.

AREAS OF INTERACTION(AOI)

I think it is Health and Social Education. I think I am risk taker because I researched about how to make the drawer. In addition, I asked Hee Jo how to drill the holes on diagonal side(not straight).

PLAN

My plan is to finish drilling and screwing. I didn’t mention about the drawer in Gantt Chart at all.

CHANGES TO YOUR PLAN

I wrote ‘My plan is to start making a drawer.’ in the last process journal. Therefore, I started to make a drawer. But I only wrote ‘All I have to do is disc sanding and cutting other sides.’. I drilled the holes too. I didn’t mention that in the last process journal.

EMOTION

Today was little bit tired and unsatisfied at the product. That’s because I found a problem at drilling stage. I had to drill the hole straightly, however, I drilled diagonally. So the wood was broken!

WHAT I DID & WHY

I found the problem which is broken wood(which is mentioned in the first picture). Therefore, I filled the hole with putty. Putty is very useful tool. I can fill any holes with putty and the putty become very hard(like wood). Then, no one would know that I put putty after paint stage.

After I filled the hole, I marked the hole and drilled on it by using cordless drill. It very easy to use; It doesn’t have the cord to plug in. In addition, I can change the drill bit with a few touches.

After drilling, I made the bottom smoother before screwing. That’s because sanded side is easier to paint and screw. I used smoothing plane. For me, I hate that tool because it is too heavy and hard to use. There is a small blade which makes me hard to do because it sometimes

LEARNER PROFILE

I think I am risk taker because I researched about how to make the drawer. In addition, I asked Hee Jo how to drill the holes on diagonal side(not straight).

PLAN

My plan is to make the front and the back. I didn’t mention in Gantt Chart, I even didn’t mention about the drawer at all.

CHANGES TO YOUR PLAN

I wrote that my plan is to drill and screw the wood. I drilled the hole, but I haven’t screwed yet.

EMOTION

Today was little bit boring and dissatisfied with my project because I felt that the drawer and the cosmetic organizer don’t match well.

WHAT I DID & WHY

At the beginning of the class, I disc sanded the front for making the sides of front smoother. I used disc sander. It is useful but very dangerous. It turns so fast so I can sand the side very easily and fast. However, sometimes there are too many dusts. That is why we wear an apron and a goggle before using disc sander.

Then I started making the second back of the drawer. I cut the wood bigger than the first back. That’s because I need the space for screwing so that the drawer and cosmetic organizer won’t separate. I used smoothing plane to sand the long side of back. That’s because disc sander doesn’t have enough space for long side.

LEARNER PROFILE

I think I am a risk taker because I researched about the safety rules about using smoothing plane. I also asked Mr. Anderson about how to use the smoothing plane.

PLAN

My plan is to finish making the back and glue two backs. I didn’t mention in the Gantt Chart.

CHANGES TO YOUR PLAN

I wrote ‘My plan is to make the front and the back.’. I am continuing to make the back and I finished making front. Therefore, there si no change to my plan.

EMOTION

Today was very fun because I glued and drilled on the wood. Especially, I like glueing because I like to glue somethings together and clamp them. Clamping is the most interesting stage. Drilling is little bit hard because I have to hold the wood very tightly to make sure that I don’t drill in the wrong side.

WHAT I DID & WHY

To begin with, I finished making two backs by using sandpaper and smoothing plane. Both of them are used for the last stage. Then I glued them together by using PVA glue. I used PVA glue because it is non-toxic and easy to remove. I can remove it by using wet tower.

Then, I drilled on the side and the bottom of the cosmetic organizer by using cordless drill. The reason why I drilled is to screw into them to make sure the drawer and cosmetic organizer don’t separate after I finish making the project.

LEARNER PROFILE

I think I am a carer because I didn’t waste the wood and glue. I used very small amount of glue. I used small size of the wood. Also, I used used-wood. I didn’t use new piece of wood.

PLAN

My plan is to screw the sides and cosmetic organizer and start making the drawer. It is not in my Gantt Chart.

CHANGES TO YOUR PLAN

I wrote ‘My plan is to finish making the back and glue two backs.’. I finished making back and also I glued the back i and back ii together. In addition, I drilled on the side so that I can screw the side and original product.

AREAS OF INTERACTION(AOI)

II think it is Approaches to Learning.

I changed the drill bits frequently because I have to find proper drill bit which fits to the size of the screw that I am going to use. There are various types of drill bits. Some drill bits are with counter sink. Counter sink is very important thing. I couldn’t put the cosmetic organizer in the small place with digging out with counter sink. That’s because the head of the screw will come out.

LEARNER PROFILE

I think I am a carer because I didn’t waste the wood and glue. I used very small amount of glue. I used small size of the wood. Also, I used used-wood. I didn’t use new piece of wood.

EMOTION

Today was too tired because I did the same things just like yesterday which are drilling and screwing.

WHAT I DID & WHY

Firstly, I drilled the sides and the bottom by using cordless drill. I drilled very well, however, I made a mistake which is not wearing goggle. I have to wear the goggle every time when I use the drill or disc sander. It is a safety rule. I will wear goggle next time.

Then, I screwing the sides and the bottom by using screw driver and screws. I used bigger screws which I didn’t plan to use. I planned to use smaller screws, however, I sued the drill bit which is bigger than the size of small screw. It was my mistake. So I found bigger ones and used them.

Lastly, I made the back of the drawer. I cut the wood by using tenon saw because I wanted to make it fast. Then, I used disc sander and sand board. It is very useful and helpful.

LEARNER PROFILE

I think that I am a risk taker because I changed to bigger screw quickly even though I made a mistake which is drilling by using big drill bit. I quickly solved the problem.

PLAN

My plan is to start making the drawer. For that, I will be cutting, disc sanding and glueing. Making the drawer is not in my Gantt Chart.

CHANGES TO YOUR PLAN

I wrote ‘My plan is to screw the sides and cosmetic organizer and start making the drawer.’. I screwed the sides and cosmetic organizer, however, I haven’t started making the drawer.

EMOTION

Today I was very fun because I chiseled and glued the wood. I like chiseling especially.

WHAT I DID & WHY

Firstly, I chiseled the front of the drawer by using chisel and hammer because there should be some space for the sides of the drawer. Chiseling is very fun, especially hammering. Put the chisel on the front wood, then hammer the top of the chisel so that the sharp part of the chisel goes into the wood easily.

Then, I glued the pieces of wood by using wet used-cloth and PYA glue because I cut the wood into several pieces. It was totally my fault. However, I really like glueing. I was so happy with glueing. PVA glue is non-toxic so even children can use it. In addition, It can be gotten rid of very easily by using wet used-cloth. That’s why I used wet-tower.

LEARNER PROFILE

I think that I am open-minded. I chiseled the wood without restrained. After Mr.Anderson said that I need to chisel the wood, I picked up the chisel and the hammer for chiseling.

PLAN

My plan is to finish making the drawer. I have to drill and screw all the parts of the drawer.

CHANGES TO YOUR PLAN

I wrote that ‘My plan is to start making the drawer.’, however, Mr.Anderson made the front, sides of the drawer already. I just had to make the back and the bottom of the drawer.

Put the chisel on the front wood, then hammer the top of the chisel so that the sharp part of the chisel goes into the wood easily.

Then, I planed the sides of the bottom. I can’t use the disc sander because the length of the side is too long so it doesn’t fit to the length of disc sander. I used smoothing plane because it can plane the side of the wood very easily without using energy. It is very convenient so I use it usually.

LEARNER PROFILE

I think that I am open-minded. I chiseled the wood without restrained. After Mr.Anderson said that I need to chisel the wood, I picked up the chisel and the hammer for chiseling.

EMOTION

I was very happy because I am really close to the end now. I just have to screw and paint!

WHAT I DID & WHY

I glued all the parts of the drawer. I glued on the hole on the front for the sides. If I do not glue and just start screwing, the drawer would be broken easily. I used PVA glue and wet used-cloth. PVA glue is so sticky, but very useful. It is so strong so that it makes the durability of the drawer longer.

Then, I clamped by using a big and long clamp. I couldn’t use the small one because the width of the drawer is little wider than the clamp. There are many types of the clamps depending on the space that the clamp can open. Clamp is very good tool. It clamps the product so that the glue works well.

LEARNER PROFILE

I think I am a carer because I didn’t waste the wood and glue. I used very small amount of glue. I used small size of the wood. Also, I used used-wood. I didn’t use new piece of wood.

EMOTION

I was little bit tired today because I drilled and screwed. I drilled and screwed for more than ten times.

WHAT I DID & WHY

I drilled by using cordless drill. The reason why I drilled is to make the drawer stronger. The durability of the drawer would be longer if I drill and screw on it. I want to make the durability as longer as possible. I used cordless drill because it is very convenient. It doesn’t have a cord as you can see at the word ‘cordLESS drill’

Then, I screwed into the hole that I drilled by using screwdriver and appropriate size of the screw. The size of the screw depends on the size of the drill bit. If I used small drill bit, I have to use small screw.

LEARNER PROFILE

I think that I am a risk taker because I changed to bigger screw quickly even though I made a mistake which is drilling by using big drill bit. I quickly solved the problem.

PLAN

My plan is to start painting. The colors for the drawer are written in the process journal number 11.

CHANGES TO YOUR PLAN

I wrote ‘My plan is to drill and screw the drawer, then I am going to do the assembly.’. I drilled and screwed. I finished them. Also, I did assembly to find the problems before I paint the drawer. Therefore, there is no any change to my plan.

EMOTION

I was so happy because I started painting. Starting painting means that I am very close to the end!

WHAT I DID & WHY

I painted all the parts of the drawer(back, front, sides, bottom…).

PLAN

My plan is to stick the tapes on the paint and cut them following the line of the triangles. Then, paint on them that the paint doesn’t spread.

CHANGES TO YOUR PLAN

I wrote that ‘My plan is to start painting.’ I started painting just like what I wrote. Therefore, there is no any changes to my plan.

EMOTION

I was little bit boring because I continued painting. Even though I like painting, I do not like to paint for two, three and four periods. I hope I don’t have to paint again.

WHAT I DID & WHY

I continued painting. I used unfolded box, paint brush, paint and a bottle of water. Unfolded box protects the table. Sometimes, some students put their paint brushes on the table. Then, the table gets dirty because of the paint on the paint brush. I used a bottle of water because extremely dried-paint doesn’t work.

At the end of the class, I started sanding. The edges of the drawer should be smooth, not sharp. If they are sharp, people sometimes gets hurt. I used sand paper because it is the most convenient tool for sanding. File is heavy and hard to deal with.

LEARNER PROFILE

I think I am a carer because I didn’t waste the wood and the paint. I didn’t waste the paint when I was painting the sides. I dig only small amount of paint using useless wood stick.

EMOTION

Today, I was very fun because I started attaching the handle and finished in two periods. However, cutting the screw in the proper size was little bit hard.

WHAT I DID & WHY

I chose the appropriate handle for my product. It is very cute, but simple. I like this kind of design. After choosing the handle, I cut the screw by using hack saw. It is very useful for cutting the metal, steel. It can cut the screw very easily. The hardest thing was cutting it in the proper size. The length of the screw depends on the thickness of the front of the drawer and the deepness of the inside space for the screw of the handle. I cut about four to five times to make the screw in the proper size.

LEARNER PROFILE

I think that I am a risk taker because I asked to Jung Min for the appropriate saw to cut the screw. Then, Jung Min said hack saw would be great.

PLAN

My plan is to check my product whether there is came off paint or not. If so, I will be painting again.

CHANGES TO YOUR PLAN

I wrote ‘My plan is to do an assembly which is very important stage in Create stage.’. Unfortunately, I couldn’t do an assembly because I had to attach the handle. I have to do as assembly on the next period.

EMOTION

Today was very busy because I wanted to finish the product today. So I decided to do lots of things in a very short time.

WHAT I DID & WHY

I sanded and filed all the sharp edges because people will be hurt by the sharp edges. I used sandpaper and flat file. Sandpaper is very useful and convenient because I can band and make the shape to sand the edge. Flat file can file very fast and easily. Therefore, I file the edges first and make them smoother by using sandpaper.

When I sand and file the wood, the paint came off, so I had to paint again. I used black color marker and paint. Black color marker is much more convenient than the paint. Painting needs many tools such as paint brush, a bottle of water and unfolded box.

LEARNER PROFILE

I think I am a carer because I didn’t waste the wood and the paint. I didn’t waste the paint when I was painting the sides. I dig only small amount of paint using useless wood stick.

CHANGES TO YOUR PLAN

I wrote ‘My plan is to check my product whether there is came off paint or not. If so, I will be painting again.’. I checked my product and found some spaces that the paint came off. In addition, I also found many sharp edges. So I filled, sanded and painted again.

EMOTION

Today was so confused and ashamed because I found the drawback of the drawer. It doesn’t go in well.

WHAT I DID & WHY

At the beginning of the class, I found the problem which is the drawer. The drawer can’t go in well because of the screws. Therefore, I decided to dig out little bit on the sides of the drawer. Then, I marked and Mr.Anderson digged out using big machine.

Then, I clamped small size of the wood stick and the drawer because the drawer wasn’t tight enough. I used two small clamps and two wood sticks because I don’t want to make the mark from the clamps on the drawer. I used small clamps because the thickness of the side of the drawer and small wood stick was pretty thin.

LEARNER PROFILE

I think I am a carer because I didn’t waste the wood and the paint. I didn’t waste the paint when I was painting the sides. I dig only small amount of paint using useless wood stick.
