Process Paper When the theme for the 2015 National History Day Competition was Leadership and Legacy, I got to work. I was looking for a leader with a very interesting legacy. Lyndon Johnson seemed to be the perfect topic. He became president during one of the most difficult times in America. He had the Vietnam Crisis hanging over him, racial tension was growing in America, and there was a lot of distrust and doubt. I wanted to find out how he dealt with the pressure on him, and how his actions impacted the US. Today, Johnson's legacy is very interesting. He is often ridiculed and hated for being president. I wanted to find out if there was more to Johnson than just the Vietnam War. What I quickly found out was the Civil Rights, Voting Rights bills, the Great Society, and Johnson's War on Poverty. I then decided to show how Johnson's legacy unfortunately shows none of his success. I concluded that Johnson was able to win a "war" in America, but the war in Vietnam undid him and prevented him to continue to lead and gain a better legacy. I looked at Johnson's life as a whole at first. I then went specifically to his life as a politician. In doing this I found out that Johnson was a very good politician. I then researched on the seriousness of the racism in America so that I could show Lyndon Johnson's cause was just. I looked at other secondary biographies and fact sheets to gather information about the tons of bills Johnson signed into action. I used primary sources from other people's perspectives so I could see how people viewed Johnson. I chose to do a website because I thought that with my computer skills I could show the legacy of Lyndon B. Johnson effectively and professionally. I did my research writing a paper about Lyndon Johnson and the Civil Rights Movement. After I wrote the paper, I took the knowledge I had acquired and put it on the website in the form of a biography page. That was to show who

Process PaperWhen the theme for the 2015 National History Day Competition was Leadership and Legacy, I got to work. I concluded that Johnson was able to win a "war" in America, but the war in Vietnam undid him and prevented him to continue to lead and gain a better legacy.I looked at Johnson's life as a whole at first. I used primary sources from other people's perspectives so I could see how people viewed Johnson.I chose to do a website because I thought that with my computer skills I could show the legacy of Lyndon B. Johnson effectively and professionally. I did my research writing a paper about Lyndon Johnson and the Civil Rights Movement. After I wrote the paper, I took the knowledge I had acquired and put it on the website in the form of a biography page. That was to show who Lyndon Johnson was. I then put my thesis on the home page and made a page for Johnson's Legacy. I put the website in order of Lyndon Johnson back then, his legacy now, and finally how I view his leadership and legacy compared to other leaders and their legacies. The story of Lyndon Johnson's leadership and legacy really fits the theme for this years competition. Johnson is an excellent example of a great leader who received a bad reputation because of one failure. This is true of many great leaders, because they can't please everyone. The great leaders will know the consequences of being a leader and making mistakes, but won't be scared off by that fact. In the end Johnson declined another nomination because he thought he was doing what was the best for the US. Lyndon Johnson's leadership and legacy are great examples for any leader.
