SYSTEM INFORMATIONCompatibility Not compatible in direct contact with EPS/XPS insulation boards, copper

plate, bituminous substrates, waterproofing membranes (thermoplastics /elastomers) excluding soft PVC. These materials could adversely affect theproduct properties

APPLICATION INFORMATIONConsumption ~150 g/m2 – 200 g/m2 on non-porous substrates

~400 g/m2 on porous substratesOne single canister covers ~80–100 m2.These figures are theoretical and do not allow for any additional materialdue to surface porosity, surface profile, variations in level or wastage etc.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONSSUBSTRATE QUALITY

The supporting structure must be of sufficient struc-tural strength to apply all new and existing layers ofthe roof build up. Complete roof system must be de-signed and secured against wind uplift loadings. Thesubstrates must be solvent resistant, uniform, firm, clean, dry, free of grease, bitumen, oil, dust andloosely adhering particles. Sheet metal must becleaned with Sarna Cleaner before adhesive is applied.

SUBSTRATE PREPARATION

Use the appropriate preparation equipment toachieve the required substrate quality

APPLICATION

Strictly follow membrane installation procedures asdefined in method statements, application manualsand working instructions which must always be adjus-ted to the actual site conditions.Canister and spray-gun set-upNathalie insert images and text for Canister andspray-gun set-up here not in 'Maintenance' attribute.

Sarnafil® G 410- Membrane (Contact bonding)

Spray apply 1 coat of Sarnacol®-2172 Spray directlyonto the substrate as a priming coat. Allow to drycompletely. Apply 2 coats of adhesive on absorbentsubstrates. Prime only the area of the roofing wherethe membrane will be applied on the same day.

1.

Lay out Sarnafil® G 410, align and fold back to ap-proximately half its length.

2.

Spray apply Sarnacol®-2172 Spray evenly on the un-derside of the membrane.

3.

When the adhesive surface has become ‘tacky’,carefully fold back Sarnafil® G 410 onto the sub-strate. Press down firmly on the membrane using asuitable pressure roller such as a water-filled, orheavy steel roller 40–50 kg.

4.

Fold back the second half of the membrane and re-peat as above.

5.

Sarnafil® G 410- Felt backed membrane (Wet bond-ing)

Spray apply 1 coat of Sarnacol®-2172 Spray directlyonto the substrate as a priming coat. Allow to drycompletely. Apply 2 coats of adhesive on absorbentsubstrates. Prime only the area of the roofing wherethe membrane will be applied on the same day.

1.

Lay out Sarnafil® G 410 Felt, align and fold back toapproximately half its length.

2.

Spray apply Sarnacol®-2172 Spray evenly on the un-derside of the membrane.

3.

While the adhesive surface is still wet, carefully foldback Sarnafil® G 410 onto the substrate. Press downfirmly on the membrane using a suitable pressureroller such as a water-filled, or heavy steel roller40–50 kg.

4.

Fold back the second half of the membrane and re-peat as above.

5.

CLEANING OF TOOLS

Tools and equipment must be cleaned with Sika SprayCleaner or Sarna Cleaner immediately after use. Purgethe adhesive through the hose & application gun (ap-prox. 250 ml) as necessary before and after use.

MAINTENANCECanister and spray-gun set-upIt is important to set-up the Sarnacol®-2172 Spray can-ister adhesive correctly before use to ensure the bestpossible performance and to avoid leakage or systemfailure.

01.Remove the black capform the canister valve.

02.Attach the rubberhose to the canister valve(using the small nut) andattach the other end ofthe braided-hose to thespray-gun (using the largenut). Tighten with a span-ner.03.Attach the other endof the rubber hose to thespray-gun (using the largenut). Tighten with a span-ner.

04.Using the locking-nutprovided, attach thespray-tip to the end ofthe spray-gun

05.Fully open the valveon the canister.

06.Pull the trigger on thespray-gun to apply adhes-ive.

07. Adjust the spray pat-tern by turning the blackvalve on the spray-gunanti-clockwise until aspray pattern width of~300 mm in width isachieved.

Canister and spray-gun maintenance guideOnce work has been completed, ensure the valve onthe canister remains open. Failure to do this maycause the adhesive to block the hose

01.Turn the spray-gun offby turning the black valveclockwise until it is fullyclosed.

02.Unscrew the spray-tipand the end of the spray-gun. Clean the spray-tipand the end of the spray-gun with Sika SprayCleaner or Sarna Cleanerusing a soft nylon brushto ensure the aperture isclear. This is essential.Failure to clean the spray-tip and the end of thespray-gun may result indamage to the apertureand prevent the systemfrom working. Place thespray-tip and locking-nutin a container with asmall amount of SikaSpray Cleaner or SarnaCleaner until it is neededagain. Ensure the contain-er is closed and airtight.

Canister flushing system01.Ensure the valve onthe canister is completelyturned off before attach-ing the assembly.

02.Unscrew the hosefrom the canister valve.

03. Attach the assemblyto the valve. Ensure theassembly remains up-right whilst the nut is tightened. Attach thehose to the assembly. En-sure the assembly re-mains upright whilst thehose nut is tightened04.Check the tap on theassembly is off before ap-plying the Sika SprayCleaner. Screw the Sika®Spray Cleaner canister in-to the top of the as-sembly and open the redvalve.

05.Aim the spray-gun in-to a waste container, ap-ply pressure to the trig-ger on the gun to pushSika® Spray Cleanertrough the hose and gununtil the adhesive startsto dispense. Keep pres-sure on the trigger untilthe hose and gun arethoroughly cleaned.

Canister system disposal01. The Sarnacol®-2172Spray canister containscompressed gas. It mustbe emptied by carefullyopening the valve, whichwill release anyexcess adhesive and/orpressure. Allow any ex-cess adhesive and/orpressure to fully escapeinto a suitable container.Leave the valve open.Once the canister isempty and completelydepressurised, the circu-lar disk can be pierced us-ing a non-ferrous bar/rod.Allow any remaining ad-hesive to cure. The emptydepressurised canistershould be disposed/re-cycled in accordance withlocal disposalregulations..

LIMITATIONSInstallation work must only be carried out by Sika®trained and approved contractors, experienced in thistype of application.

The spray tip or gun used with other Sika® sprayproducts must not to used with Sarnacol®-2172Spray.

The canister and gun will remain usable for 2 weeksafter opening. If it is not intended to use the systemwithin this time, the adhesive in the hose and gunmust be renewed by purging ~250 ml of adhesivethrough the system every 2 weeks.

Overlap sections that require hot air welding must beprotected during spray application.

Use Sarnafil Lap Cleaner to remove adhesive residuefrom the roof membrane.

If the system is not going to be used within 2 weeks,it is recommended to flush the gun and hose with theSika Canister Flushing System. Once canister isempty, the gun/hose can be transferred to a new ad-hesive canister.

Installation of some ancillary products, e.g. contactadhesives / cleaners is limited to temperatures above+5 °C. Observe temperature limitations in the appro-priate Product Data Sheets.
