Ahuareka seeks to provide a quality place to live, work and
play. It is seen as a community with a wide demographic
specifically designed so that singles, couples, families and
the aged cohabitate. It provides a variety o f housing types
including family homes, courtyard houses, small single level
cottages, artists houses with studios and loft living spaces.
The Architecture is developed as a reflection of traditional
New Zealand rural influences and the buildings have a
limited palette of forms and materials establishing an
architectural unity providing a unique sense of place.
Quality construction techniques and building materials
including stone, concrete and weatherboard walls with zinc
and iron roofs result in distinctive and superior buildings.
This is summarised in the attached 9 page illustration
booklet entitled Architectural Unity = Character = Identity.
The houses are eco-friendly and designed with good
connections to sun and aspect, they h ave high levels of
insulation and thermal mass, good levels of natural lighting
and cross ventilation.
This development is designed not as a response to
infrastructure and cars but as a reflection of those eternal
principles of satisfying and sustaining places that enhance
human experience.
