FEATURES AND BENEFITS MASSEY FERGUSON® 1300 SERIES DISC MOWERS

INTRODUCTION Massey Ferguson® 1300 series disc mowers cut through tough, matted, tangled, and wet hay at high operating speeds. The efficient modular design with individually sealed and lubricated disc drive units helps eliminate catastrophic mower bed failure, and sim-plifies routine maintenance. Each module can use either grease or oil lubricants, each has a dipstick to check oil level and a breather to protect the seals. Knives are reversi-ble, which doubles the knife life. The drive shaft is segmented, which speeds repairs. High speed, tough cutting Massey Ferguson rotary disc mowers are designed for work-ing in adverse crop and field conditions with less chance of plugging.

1326 The Massey Ferguson® 1326 is a 4 disc, 5’ 6” (1.68 m) cutting width mower. A tractor with a minimum of 30 hp (22.4 kW) is re-quired to operate the mower. The tractor needs to be equipped with an enclosed cab, to protect the operator. The mower attaches to the tractor with a Category I or II three-point hitch, and requires a single act-ing remote valve, for lifting the mower into transport position.

1327 The Massey Ferguson® 1327 is a 5 disc, 6’ 8” (2.0 m) cutting width mower. A tractor with a minimum of 35 hp (26 kW) is re-quired to operate the mower. The tractor needs to be equipped with an enclosed cab, to protect the operator. The mower attaches to the tractor with a Category I or II three-point hitch, and requires a single act-ing remote valve, for lifting the mower into transport position. 5 Disc

GENERAL Massey Ferguson® offers five sizes of disc mowers from 5’ 6” to 10’ 4” wide. The mowers attach to tractors with Category I or II three point hitch, and require a single acting remote valve, for lifting the mower into transport position.

1328 The 1328 is a 6 disc, 7’ 10” (2.39 m) cutting width mower. A tractor with a minimum of 40 hp (29.8 kW) is required to operate the mower. The tractor needs to be equipped with an enclosed cab, to protect the opera-tor. The mower attaches to the tractor with a Category II three-point hitch, and requires a single acting remote valve, for lifting the mower into transport position.

1329 The 1329 is a 7 disc, 9’ 2” (2.79 m) cutting width mower. A tractor with a minimum of 45 hp (34 kW) is required to operate the mower. The tractor needs to be equipped with an enclosed cab, to protect the opera-tor. The mower attaches to the tractor with a Category II three-point hitch, and requires a single acting remote valve, for lifting the mower into transport position.

1330 The 1330 is a 8 disc, 10’ 4” (3.15 m) cutting width mower. A tractor with a minimum of 50 hp (37.3 kW) is required to operate the mower. The tractor needs to be equipped with an enclosed cab, to protect the opera-tor. The mower attaches to the tractor with a Category II three-point hitch, and requires a single acting remote valve, for lifting the mower into transport position.

MARKET The 1300 Series mowers meet the needs of a wide range of customers. There is a size to meet the needs of the small farmer, all the way to the custom operator. The mowers can be used to mow pasture and set–aside ground, as well as the all types of hay crops. The low power requirements allow customers with smaller tractors (equipped with enclosed cab) the opportu-nity to upgrade to a disc mower.

CUTTERBAR Easy Cutterbar access Lifting the front curtain easily accesses the mower cutterbar. Changing knives and periodic maintenance can be quickly per-formed. The curtain can then just as eas-ily be returned to the working position

Modular Cutterbar Design The cutterbar is designed so that if one cutting module is damaged internally, it will not contaminate the other modules. The modular cutterbar design allows for replacement of the module rather than dis-assembling the entire cutterbar, for ease of maintenance and service.

Cutterbar Skid Shoes Each cutterbar module rides across the ground on a replaceable skid shoe. The 6” wide shoes protect the main components of the cutterbar from wearing do to contact with abrasive soil, and they are also wide enough to distribute the weight of the mower over the ground to prevent streak-ing while allowing the mower to follow the contour of the land.

Segmented Drive Shaft The Massey Ferguson® modular cutterbar system is driven by a segmented hex shaft and pinion gears. The hex drive shaft is segmented, to allow for quick disassembly of the modules for servicing. The shaft is a small diameter, to keep the bed profile low. A low cutterbar profile helps keep the bed level when cutting, which reduces “scalped” cutting and streaking. The vertical shaft in the disc hub is de-signed with a shear point. This shear point creates a safe location for the cutterbar to give if a solid obstruction is encountered. Having the shaft shear protects the more expensive internal components of the disc module.

Knives The standard knife has a 12 degree pitch. For tough conditions such as down crop, an 18 degree knife is available. The 18 degree knives gives more lift to help pick up the crop for a cleaner cut. This optional 18 degree knife takes a little more horse-power to operate and is more likely to wear quickly in abusive conditions.

Sealed Modules Inside the sealed modules are bevel drive gears and sealed bearings. Each module has a breather and a dipstick/fill hole to monitor oil level. This design allows the module to use either EPO grease or oil as the lubricant. From the factory the mow-ers come filled with grease. The cutter-bar's reversible, hex driveshafts provide longer life and reduced operating cost. Each cutterbar module consists of two main pieces, the sealed gearbox housing, and the oval disc that retains the knives Expanded Module View

Hillside Mowing Because each drive unit is sealed with it’s own supply of lubrication, the mower can operate at any angle (up to 90 degrees), for long periods of time. The lubrication stays within each module, and doesn’t run to one end of the bed.

Main Drive Gearbox The heavy-duty main drive gearbox has two separate oil reservoirs. Both are separate from the cutterbar modules. The gearbox contains 90W gear oil.

DRIVES PTO Shaft All units are equipped with a 6-spline, 540-rpm PTO shaft with an overrunning clutch. The overrunning clutch is designed to pre-vent damage to the cutterbar, PTO shaft, and tractor PTO clutch when the machine is being shut down. It allows the cutterbar to coast to a stop when the PTO is turned off.

Drive Belts The cutterbar main drive gearbox is driven from the PTO shaft by belts. The 1326 and 1327 have 3 matched “HB” Section belts, the 1328 has 4 matched “HB” Sec-tion belts, and the 1329 and 1330 have a 4-groove banded belt to drive the ma-chine. The belts help to reduce the shock load to the gearbox. The belts can easily be maintained without removing the belt guard. (Shield shown removed to view belts)

Outer Flotation Spring Massey Ferguson offers an outer flotation spring as standard equipment for the mod-els 1328, 1329 and 1330. This reduces the wear on the outer skid shoe giving it a longer wear life. Outer flotation springs can be obtained through parts for the 1326 and 1327.

MAINFRAME Hitch All models use a heavy-duty, one-piece box beam hitch design capable of attach-ing to a quick hitch. The larger models, 1328, 1329 and 1330, use a wide beam design to accommodate larger tractors and wider wheel spacing. The 1326 and 1327 offer an optional offset hitch for lar-ger tractors with wide wheel spacing. The 1326 and 1327 offer a Category 1 & 2 three-point hitch or quick hitch to fit the smaller model tractors, as well as the lar-ger ones. The 1328, 1329 and 1330 are designed for the larger model tractors, and offer a category 2 three-point hitch or quick hitch.

Inner Flotation Spring The inner flotation spring is standard on all models. It is set at the factory and is non-adjustable. It takes pressure off the inner skid shoe to increase wear life.

Transport Lock The 1300 series feature a pin and latch system to lock the cutterbed into transport position. The latch is rope activated so it is possible for the operator to unlock the ma-chine from road position without having to leave the tractor cab.

Lockout Valve Cutterbar Breakaway The cutterbar breakaway is designed to prevent damage if the cutterbar hits an ob-ject. It gives the operator time to stop be-fore serious damage is done. The spring tension is adjustable and if it is tripped, the operator simply backs the tractor up (leaving the mower on the ground) to reset the breakaway.

Hydraulic Lift Cylinder The hydraulic lift cylinder is standard on all models and is used to raise and lower the cutterbar for transport and storage. The Massey Ferguson® 1300 series use a sin-gle acting hydraulic cylinder so they can be used on tractors with single acting or double acting remote valves.

Reinforced Curtain Frame The Massey Ferguson 1300 series disc mowers all have a reinforced curtain frame. The frame provides a sturdy cur-tain mount for reliability while allowing easy access to the cutterbar. (The curtain has been removed to view the frame.)

Heavy Duty Curtain All the 1300 series disc mowers offer a heavy curtain as well as a reinforced cur-tain frame. This curtain helps to contain material and reduces the possibility of ob-jects being thrown out.

Tall Crop Divider The optional tall crop divider attaches to the outer end of the disc mower and is used to separate tall material. The tall crop divider provides a clean division be-tween the standing crop and crop being cut. It improves the cutting performance in tall, tangled crops. OPTIONAL KITS (Field Installed) Swathboard The Swathboard guides the cut crop away from the uncut crop. This separates the cut and uncut crop, making it easier to mow without driving the tractor tires over cut hay or dragging the cut hay with the drive end of the mower on the next pass. 2” Topping Skids (Set of Four) The 2” (51 mm) high skid shoes provides additional cutting height for longer stubble. Offset Hitch Bundle for 1326 and 1327 The offset hitch moves the mower (1326 and 1327 only) over 12” (305 mm), to al-low the use of larger tires or wider wheel spacing. The offset hitch allows the op-erator to use the full width of the cutterbar, and prevent the rear wheel from running over the uncut crop. The Massey Ferguson® 1300 series includes 5 models of 3-point hitch mounted rotary disc mowers. The 1300 series include hydraulic cutterbar lift, spring flotation, and damage reducing “cutterbar breakaway”. They also feature a modular, segmented-shaft cutterbar drive that isolates any damage and makes maintenance much quicker. The 1300 series are simple, efficient mowers with no conditioning attachment. ♦ Massey Ferguson 1300 series mowers feature a modular, segmented shaft cutterbar with sealed bearings. These manufacturers use single reservoir, open bearing, gear to gear cutterbeds. The problems with these cutterbeds are: • Any contamination will ruin the entire cutterbed because the bearings and gears are

lubricated by the single reservoir of oil. • Higher internal gear speed creates more heat and breaks down oil faster. • Higher horsepower requirements because their gears are running in a pool of oil. • All their oil will run to one end of the cutterbed when cutting on slopes, leaving the upper

bearings and gears “starving for oil”. • It is hard to control torsion and flexing in a cantilevered gear to gear cutterbed. This

flexing of the cutterbed can cause uneven wear or binding. ♦ Krone uses an “expensive to maintain” shaft and u-joint system to transfer power to their

cutterbed. Massey Ferguson uses an efficient, multiple belt drive to transfer the power from the PTO shaft to the cutterbar. These belts also offer slip protection. Massey Ferguson 1300 series are built sturdier than these brands.
