Intended UseQuantum Series Electric Chain Hoists are designed to eciently raise and lowerloads. These hoists are designed for general industrial material handling operations, with freely suspended loads.

HousingThe housing and cover are made from robust cast aluminium, and cooling ns in themotor area provide ecient cooling. The chain container can be attached to thecompact housing. Holes are provided for the chain screw connection of the powersupply connecting cable and control cable. The eye or hook suspension system isattached to the top ange.

Motor and BrakeQCH electric chain hoists are driven by asynchronous motors. Models are availablein single and dual speed. The motors are specically designed for hoist dutyrequirements and are rated for lifting equipment. The windings of the motorcorrespond with insulation class F. The brake system consists of a DC-poweredmultiple disk brake. In the de-energized state the braking torque is provided by thecompression spring.

Rotor Shaft with Integrated Slip ClutchThe slip clutch is installed in a functional location downstream of the brake systemand is integrated in the rotor shaft. It protects the chain hoist from overloading andprovides additional function of an emergency limit stop for the highest and lowesthook positions. The slip clutch complies with requirements of industry standard, andis maintenance free.

Limit SwitchA geared limit switch is installed to control the highest and lowest chain positions.Intermediate limit switch contacts with automatic disconnection can be optionallyretrotted.

Electrical ControllerThe electric chain hoists are equipped with a 42 V pendant controller as standard. The emergency stop contactor disconnects all three main power legs from the powersource when the Emergency-Stop button is pressed.

ChaindriveThe hoist is equipped with a 5 pocket liftwheel and uses case carborized highly heattreated load chain for long life. Chain guides are easily removed for inspection. Allhooks are equipped with a safety latch.

GearboxThe two-stage, closed spur gearing is designed for lifting gear requirements. Thegear wheels are mounted on ball bearings and have continuous lubrication. Thehelical gearing reduces running noise to a minimum.

Control SwitchThe standard equipment of the electric chain hoist includes a control switch (raise/lower with emergency stop). The automatically disconnecting emergency stopcontact of the control switch directly opens the power circuit which powers thecontactors. A 4-button or 6-button control switch is attached to the motorized trolleyas required for additional movement directions.

The operational parameters of theelectric chain hoist also encompass the compliance of the safe operating practices, maintenance information and parts information manuals.

The operational parameters do not include:

• Exceeding the defined load capacity,

• Diagonal pulling of the load or yarding,• Excessive impact or lifting of guided loads.

Excessive inching operations, ground mooring and running against limit switches, should be avoided.

Operating temperature is –20° C to 50° C (68 ° F to 122 ° F)

Hoists are rated at H3 Duty Class in accordance with ASME HST–1–1999.

The manufacturer accepts no responsibility for any damage to this equipment, resulting from abnormal operating practices.

START-UP

DANGER

• Mechanical adjustments should be performed by authorized designatedpersonnel.

CAUTION

• The operating staff must carefully read the operating instructions of theelectric chain hoists before its initial operation and carry out all checks. Onlywhen a safe operation has been established may the device be put intooperation. Unauthorized persons may not operate the device or performany work with the help of the same.

n Transport and AssemblyFor the transport and assembly of the electric chain hoists, the safety direction forhandling with loads are to be followed. Refer to Product Safety Information Manual.

The electric chain hoists must be assembled by qualified staff, always bearing inmind the accident prevention directions. Before assembly the electric chain hoistmust be stored in an enclosed room or covered area. Should the electric chain hoistbe destined for operation outdoors, then it is recommended that a protection roofis erected to shield it from the influences of the weather.

Whenever possible, the electric chain hoist should be transported in its originalpackaging. It is recommended that the assembly and connection of the electric chainhoist is effected on-site by qualified designated personnel.

INSTALLATIONPrior to installing the hoist, carefully inspect components for possible shippingdamage.

Hoists are supplied fully lubricated from the factory. Refer to “LUBRICATION” sectionfor recommended oils and lubrication intervals. Lubrication of the load chain isrecommended before initial hoist operation.

WARNING

• A falling load can cause injury or death. Before installing, read ProductSafety Information Manual.

• Owners and users are advised to examine specific, local or otherregulations, including American National Standards Institute and/or OSHARegulations which may apply to a particular type of use of this productbefore installing or putting hoist to use.

n MountingMake certain your hoist is properly installed. A little extra time and effort in doing socan contribute a lot toward preventing accidents and help you get the best servicepossible.

Always make certain the supporting member from which the hoist is suspended isstrong enough to support the weight of the hoist plus the weight of the maximumrated load plus a generous factor (consult a structural engineer).

If the hoist is suspended by a top hook, the supporting member should restcompletely within the saddle of the hook and be centered directly above the hookshank. Do not use a supporting member that tilts the hoist.

n Hook Mounted Hoist

Place hook over mounting structure. Make sure hook latch is engaged.

n Trolley Mounted Hoist

When installing a trolley on a beam, measure beam flange and temporarily installtrolley on hoist to determine the exact distribution and arrangement of the spacers.Adjust spacers in accordance with trolley manufacturer’s literature to provide thecorrect distance between the wheel flange and the beam. The number of spacersbetween the trolley side plate and mounting lug on hoist must be the same in allfour locations in order to keep the hoist centered under the I-beam. The remainingspacers must be equally distributed on the outside of the side plates.

WARNING

• At least one mounting spacer must be used between the head of each trolleybracket bolt and the trolley bracket and between each trolley bolt nut andthe trolley bracket. Failure to do this could cause the hoist to fall when usedimproperly.

Ensure trolley bolts or nuts are torqued in accordance with manufacturer’sspecifications. For installation of hoist and trolley on beam, make certain the sideplates are parallel and vertical.

After installation ensure beam stops are in place, operate trolley over entire lengthof beam with a capacity load suspended 4 to 6 inches (10 to 15 cms) off the floor.

CAUTION

• To avoid an unbalanced load which may damage the trolley, the hoist mustbe centered under the trolley.

NOTICE

• Trolley wheels ride on the top of the lower flange of the beam.

n Power Connection

DANGER

• Electro technical adjustments should only be performed by authorizedspecialists.

The main connection cable, fuse and the switch must be installed by the customerbefore connecting the electric chain hoist to the mains power supply.

A 4-wire cable with a ground protective conductor is needed to provide the powersupply for three-phase models. A 3-wire cable with a protective conductor isadequate for single-phase models. The length and the gage must be determined tosupport the power consumption of the electric chain hoist.

DANGER

• The ground conductor must not carry any power. With motorized trolleyoperation, the power supply is enclosed in a terminal box on the drivemotor. With the installation of a motor protector, the load plate voltage ofthe electric chain hoist must be noted.

CAUTION

• Checking direction of rotation: If the direction of rotation does notcorrespond with the button symbols on the control switch, power supplywires L1 and L2 must be swapped around.

NOTICE

• Make sure wire connection at the terminal is in accordance with Dwg.MHP3318.

Electrical Connections if not tight and secure, will cause a fire. During installationthe electrician must make sure that all electrical connections including the groundconnection are secure. Make sure all junction boxes and switch enclosures areadequately sealed and protected for the environmental conditions to beencountered.

CAUTION

• Should the brake solenoid hum, buzz or vibrate, then the air gap (S) mustbe reset in accordance with Table 5 on page 6.

• Humming of the motor or slow lifting speed indicates oily or sticky brakediscs or worn or damaged brake cage. Dismantle and ensure brake discsare clean and dry. Brake cage must be replaced if damaged.

9. LIMIT SWITCH. Check to ensure chain stopper is securely attached to chain. Ondouble fall hoists ensure lower hook sheave block capscrews are tightened tothe correct torque. Refer to Table 6 on page 6 for torque specifications.

10. SLIP CLUTCH. The slip clutch is factory pre-adjusted to slip at a nominal 140%of the hoist rated capacity. If the wear resistant lining is overheated the slip loadwill be reduced.

CAUTION

• Adjustment of the slip clutch should only be attempted by a servicedesignated personnel and must be recorded in the inspection report.

11. SUSPENSION PARTS. All statically loaded parts are known as suspension parts.Refer to Table 6 Capscrew Torque Chart on page 6. Torque values are for Grade8.8 capscrews.

LUBRICATIONTo ensure continued satisfactory operation of the hoist, all points requiringlubrication must be serviced with the correct lubricant at the proper time intervalas indicated for each assembly. Correct lubrication is one of the most importantfactors in maintaining efficient operation.

The lubrication intervals recommended in this manual are based on intermittentoperation of the hoist eight hours each day, five days per week. If the hoist is operatedalmost continuously or more than the eight hours each day, more frequentlubrication will be required. The lubricant types are based on operation in anenvironment relatively free of dust, moisture, and corrosive fumes. Use only thoselubricants recommended. Other lubricants may affect the performance of the hoist.Approval for the use of other lubricants must be obtained from your IngersollRand Technical Support Department or distributor. Failure to provide properlubrication may result in damage to the hoist and/or its associated components.

n Hook and Suspension Assemblies1. Lubricate the lower hook and hook latch pivot points. Hook and latch should

pivot freely.2. Use Ingersoll Rand LUBRI-LINK-GREEN or a SAE 50 to 90 EP oil.

n Trolley (optional feature)

Refer to the manufacturer’s literature for correct lubrication. For additionalinformation on Quantum motorized trolleys, refer to Parts, Operation andMaintenance Manual Form Number MHD56108.

n Load Chain

WARNING

• Failure to maintain a clean and well lubricated load chain will result in rapidload chain wear that can lead to chain failure which can cause severe injury, death or substantial property damage.

1. Lubricate each link of the load chain weekly. Apply new lubricant over existinglayer.

2. In severe applications or corrosive environments, lubricate more frequently thannormal.

3. Lubricate hook latch pivot point with the same lubricant used on the load chain.4. To remove rust or abrasive dust build-up, clean chain with an acid free solvent.

After cleaning, lubricate the load chain.5. Use Ingersoll Rand LUBRI-LINK-GREEN or a SAE 50 to 90 EP oil.
