Page 3: Production log

Here I am starting my design of my contents page on In Design. I've used a blank A4 page with 2 columns . On the side I've added the Contents page title vertically to the left side of the page. I'm currently following my contents page draft. I’ve made sure the writing is bold so that it is visible to everyone that its the headline. I’ve broken typical magazine conventions by putting the headline vertically. I’ve done this in order to capture my audiences attention when they look at the page. Also to just be unique.

Here you can see I've added to my contents page. I have added my selling line and my welcome message to my readers. I’ve also included a folio to link my Contents page and front cover. I will include a page number and add images to my contents page soon. At this stage I’m just placing everything on the page. I will reduce the size of the selling line and align it correctly.

Page 5: Production log

Here I have added an image. This image will represent an article, in this case my DPS. I will alter this image by enlargement. I’ve also added a gradient to my ‘Contents’ headline. I will need to add an effect to create a ‘grime’ theme throughout the magazine.

Here I have added more images and numbers beside them. I have stuck to my draft. I’ve also added a new title to introduce my titles for the rest of the magazine. I used a different font for the editors name to imitate a signature. I have enlarged the images so that it is clear to my readers.

Under the ‘in this issue column I have listed the other articles included in this magazine. I need to align it and space them out because this wont be clear to the reader. I will also increase the font size so that it is readable.

My headline and my folio ‘UK-G’ have been made the same colour in order to coordinate with the theme on the page. I’ve used the bevel and emboss tool on in design to enhance my headline. I’ve also used this technique on my selling line and my numbers to create a bold effect.

I Have added a black-grey gradient to my background to carry on the dark ‘grime’ theme. As you can see my folio doesn’t fit in with the background, this is a matter that can be fixed.

This is my first draft of my double page spread.

The font I have used for my DPS is impact. I have used this to make the writing stand out on the page. Because my DPS article is an interview I have made sure the questions and answers can be distinguished between the two. That is why I have coloured the questions in brown. Notice I have also introduced a new colour scheme; brown, orange and black. This makes the page more pleasant and colour coordinated. My folio is my mast head in a different colour, I have done this because some of my pages are white and therefore the white background would clash with the magazine background. Therefore I have made it blue so it is visible. The only thing I would change on my DPS is the font, because from far it isn't readable. I will do another draft.

Here my image for my DPS is causing a problem for me to place my text and clashes with my text. I will therefore use a tool called ‘wrap around object shape’ within InDesign to make my text go around the image.

My Pull out quote can not be placed within the middle of my text because of the space I lack. So I will maybe position it near the main image.

Page 12: Production log

Here I have incorporated a folio to link my DPS to my Contents page and front cover. This will enable my readers to find it easier to read and navigate around easier.

I have moved my ‘pull out quote’ from where I placed it before to beside my image. I have also included photography credit. To inform readers who took to the photo. My pull out quote includes colloquial language in which will appeal to my target audience as they will be able to understand.

Notice here I have changed my font because It wasn’t clear enough therefore I used a more simpler font to be able to read it from far. This makes my article more simple but effective. The font Impact was to bold for my readers and it created too much conflict between my headline and article. I have kept the coloured questions so that my readers can distinguish between the questions and answers.

Here I have incorporated my ‘wrap around object shape’ within my article to make my text go around my image. This makes it easier for my readers to see and creates a brilliant effect linking my main image and text page.
