  • 1. 03/02/14 10/02/14 Research I have begun my research by looking at various games and films that have a similar plot to that of my own. I will look into the films reviews, that people have talked about and I will also research the films so that it can give me a clearer understanding of what I am researching. I have also create a survey that I have placed on survey monkey and over the next 3-4 weeks I will collect my feedback. 03/02/14 10/02/14 Ideas Generation I have started to look at various images from the internet of items of clothing and drawn character models so that I will be able to get a clearer idea of what my character will look like.

2. 03/02/14 10/02/14 Ideas Generation I have also started to look at background images for my character to be rested on once I have created him . Started to built a mind map of images and ideas for what Era, location and environment. 10/02/14 17/02/14 Pitch/Research/Ideas Generation Created a pitch that I will work on throughout the week, also I have carried on the work for my research and ideas generation to make them more structured and better presented. 3. 10/02/14 17/02/14 Planning - I have started to create a Schedule that I will update and keep track of for my allotted 8 weeks, I will also add the weeks that I have gone over or had to redo work from my 8 week assignment. 17/02/14 24/02/14 I have continued to work on all tasks up to this point, updating and adding to them as I go along with my assignment. 24/02/14 03/03/14 I have continued the Planning for my assignment and I have started work on my Production for my Water colour Study. I will now spend the next five weeks painting my character and the background he is going to be placed on. 4. 17/02/14 24/02/14 Ideas generation I have decided to draw out a draft of what I want my character to look similar to, to do this I am going to use a process that I will also use on my final water colour. This is by getting images that I used for my inspiration and then draw characters similar to these images as if they were put together. 5. To create these designs I had to first look at various images off of the internet for inspiration I then gathered the appropriate images to help me with my work. I sketched these images out with a 2B pencil adding subtle bits of shading here and there for more structured designs and to help me with making my final painting more realistic. I also created other designs to help me craft out the doppelganger device and make the design more clear to my eyes. These designs were made using the same process. 6. 24/02/14 03/03/14 I have started my production for my character concept and as you can see my plan is to work from the middle to the outer parts of his body I will continue to update my progress for this character each week as he develops. I began by painting creases into his coat so that it would look worn and creased to do I had to make a darker shade of brown that I would use for the normal colour of his coat. I have also started to create lighter patches on his coat so it look like the colour has faded out. My process was to mix together brown and a slight bit of white mixed with plenty of water to create this colour and effect. 7. 24/02/14 03/03/14 As a reference to help me produce my work I have selected images that are seen in both my pitch and ideas generation to help me visualize and create my character, I have also not copied the work but have made it similar to the items I am working from. 8. 24/02/14 03/03/14 I have carried on through the week on my final water colour study and I have added the right hand side of his jacket. I set out to have this done because I wanted his jacket complete before I started on anything else and having to use a different colour pallet all together Using the same process as I have done for the left hand side I used lighter browns more frequently so that it seemed faded and as if a light has been shone onto the front of his body. To get this done faster I decided to use two types of brushes, a thicker and thinner one, a thick one to cover a more larger area with the same colour so that I would not have to go back and remake the colour over and over. 9. And the thinner brush so that I can go into more detail for the creases and more minor lines for his jacket. To create the darker shades of brown I first had to consider not using as much water on the brush so that the colour would not run down the paper and so that it didn't take the darker shades out of the brush. So by adding a little more black to the brown that was there I was able to make a darker colour for more detail and to make it more accurate to want i wanted it to be. 10. 03/03/14 10/03/14 11. 03/03/14 10/03/14 I have started again on my production for this weeks work and I have made progress in my character. I continued to work on his jacket, adding to the bottom left hand corner. Doing this I used the same process using a thick brush for bigger areas and a thinner brush more detail. I have also added an arm to his jacket and used a slightly different technique to create this item. To start with I have used curved lines created by the thinner brush so that it looks like the arm sleeve is twisted as you would see on a real person jacket. The lines are also a darker shade of brown this is to give a shadow and 3D effect to the jacket. Also I added a hand and painted it pink to do this I mixed red and white together until I got the appropriate colour for his skin I then carefully painted his had with a more precise and thinner brush so that it would not smudge or blotch up to much and become wrong. 12. 10/03/14 17/03/14 13. 10/03/14 17/03/14 I have started my nest week working on my character again. This week I have added his arm on the left hand side. I have used the same process of creating the other arm as I have done for the first one, creating curved lines for a twisted and shadowed effect. When I created his arm I decided to place the doppleganger device on his wrist. I drew out in pencil a light and small sketch on the device to start off with, then I added a metallic colour to make it seem more like a device than an item of clothing or something that isnt a piece of technology. The colours for this device were made using black, white and blue starting off with a little black on the thinner brush I then placed it into the white and added a little blue once they had made a kind of light grey. The blue was so that the device would look more metal rather than a dull grey. Then I added a spaulder to his shoulder using a mixture of greys for a shading effect and to make it look used and old. The colours were made by just adding water to the darker grey gradually making it lighter until I had covered the area I wanted. 14. 17/03/14 24/03/14 15. 17/03/14 24/03/14 Continuing work on my water colour I managed to complete the hood and the T-shirt and the trousers that my character is wearing. I started with the hood and to do this I lightly sketched out what kind of hood that I wanted to create, I decided to make the hood overlap my characters face so that he would look more like an assassin or spy. The colour that I used for the hood is a standard dark grey, by mixing black and white together I made a dark thick grey by not adding a lot of water to my brush. When starting on the characters shirt I only wanted to create a plain shirt with a simple navy blue colour so that it wouldnt stand out to the overall character design. This colour was created with black and blue so that it would darken into the more navy blue that is on the image(s). I used the thin brush to make sure I didnt smudge the colour onto the jacket. 16. 17/03/14 24/03/14 I started to create the legs for my character, I wanted the colour to be like a standard blue light blue with darker creases. To start I used the thicker brush just to go over the sketch of the jeans in a sky blue colour, I did this to save myself some time in painting the jeans in different colours, I then decided to get the thinner brush and use a darker blue to make fine lines for creases in the jeans to make them look more realistic. 17. I then added the characters face and his final spaulder to complete the character overall. I used the thin brush for both of these processes, this was because I didn't want to ruin or go over or across the lines I have made to outline his facial features and the spaulder sketch. To create these colours I mixed red and white to create the pink for his face and I mixed red and a tiny bit of black to make it more like a maroon colour. 18. 24/03/14 31/03/14 I have continued to extend my time for my presentation so that the work produced will be more detailed also I have started work on the background image for my character study. As you can see I placed together my character and my completed background. I couldnt document the process of my background as I sketched it out and painted it all in one day whilst I was at home. 19. 24/03/14 31/03/14 For my background I started the process by getting an A3 piece of paper to drawn on. Then using a 2B pencil and an image for inspiration I drew out my background. My process for creating this background was to first start at the bottom on the image and just draw the floor. I then added buildings until my background was thick with detail. I then choose to use colours such as silvers and greys so that it would look more futuristic and so that it wouldnt stand out from the main character. I started this process by painting with a thinner brush so that I could capture smaller details first then with the larger brush I would just go over large areas on buildings and the floors. To make the building look like they had descent I made it darker nearer the bottom of the painting. Then I decided to make a skyline for the background I wanted it to be a night so I painted in dark blues and lighter blue so that it seemed as if the sun had just gone down. 20. During this week I also started my presentation with both my character and background complete I placed them into adobe Photoshop as separate document and then moved one into the other. I then changed the contrast and shading on the images so that they would be slightly darker. To do this process all I clicked on was effects then brightness and contrast. 21. 24/03/14 31/03/14 I have continued to work on my presentation in Photoshop I have added a drop shadow to my character to give it some distance from the background to add this effect I went to layer then layer style and then drop shadow. To change the thickness I had to go on the menu for drop shadow and change the visibility of it. 22. I also added a symbol that was used as my company logo, this was to make my work seem more professional and was to make it more structured. To do this I took a symbol from a game off of the internet and removed what writing it had in place of my own. This was a simple process of using the text tool and changing the font after I had finished writing my logo R H-L Industries on the symbol. 23. 31/03/14 07/04/14 I have continued to work on my presentation and have started creating my evaluation. I have added a circle that I changed the opacity of so that I can create an effect as if a camera have singled him out as a targeted and is identifying him. I also added a larger image of his face next to the smaller one using the cut tool and the same circle with the opacity tool so that it would look as if they are getting a close-up of his face for better inspection. 24. I have made some more progress with my character presentation by adding an additional opacity circle and another enlarged version of part of my character. This time the enlarged part was the doppleganger device, the reason for this is because it is one of the main parts of my game and I wanted to show off its design, also I did this because it would make it seem that the antagonists the doppleganger's are looking for any devices left. 25. 07/04/14 14/04/14 I have continued to work on my presentation as well as continue the work for my evaluation. For my evaluation I am only accounting up to the time just before I began my production and presentation. I have continued my presentation work by importing my character and background, to do this I saved the document and then reopened it through adobe illustrator to do this process I went to file then open and selected the file I wanted opening into illustrator. 26. In adobe illustrator I started by adding an arrow to point out the enlarged images that I previously cut when I was working with Photoshop, to make this arrow I first created a normal black line in a new layer. To create this line I had to go to the pen tool in the left hand side drop down menu, after creating this line I had to figure out how to create the arrow heads. To complete this I had to go to the stroke tool on the right hand side, then by selecting the black line I created I was able to add a arrow head to the top and the feather to the end of the arrow. 27. 14/04/14 21/04/14 I have gone back to my presentation to neaten it up and add a few things like text to make it more complete, structured and professional. By using the text tool I added a short description like an analysis of my character and one for the doppleganger device. I have also gone back to my evaluation to reassess and add to my evaluation. 28. 21/04/14 28/04/14 I have gone back to my research to redo and structure better what I have done already. My research lacked quantity so I added more information for my project. This has meant for me to go back to my evaluation and re-organize a few things so that I can add the extra research I have put in to my assignment. I will continue to search for more research regarding different games and films hoping to have it completed for the end of next week. 28/04/14 05/05/14 I have completed adding to my research and will be looking at it throughout the week in-case any changes need to be made. Until then I will change my evaluation to suite the work that I have completed, this is to ensure that my evaluation is structured and clearly shows my work over the course of this assignment. 29. 05/05/14 I have completed the tasks that I have been given and have gone to my evaluation to re-write and double check that it is conclusive and well structured to show my constraints and challenges throughout the course of my 8 week assignment plus the overtime used to redo work that has either been un completed or that lacked structure previously.
