Production Review

Introduction

This was our main project at college where we had to design an advert for a brand of our choice. As a group we decided to choose ‘Nike’ for our advert because it is a worldwide brand that we know and admire. We looked at a range of ‘Nike’ adverts and found out that many of them used advertising techniques such as ‘celebrity endorsement’, ‘promise a benefit’ which we thought would be great to re-create as a group.

We were designated in a group of five individuals that included me, Mathew, Patrick, Paulina and Nick. We took ideas from the ‘Nike’ adverts we seen and we all came up with one idea each. We decided to combine mine and Paulina’s idea which made us the directors of the advert. So we gave out the roles for planning for this project, we decided to give Mathew the risk assessment, Paulina was in charge of the storyboard, Patrick did the blog,

When we started filming, me and Paulina decided that we would take the role of the we put together our ideas for the group. Also Paulina used the camera to film the advert for us. Matthew, Patrick and Nick had the starring roles in our television advertisement, but later on when filming Nick replaced Patrick in the main role.

In the TV advert we used ‘promise a benefit’ as our advertising technique because most of the ‘Nike’ adverts we watched used this technique more than others. This was the best option because although ‘Nike’ uses celebrity endorsement we didn’t have any celebrity’s to use. When it came to editing I didn’t really use any specific techniques, I only used transitions when editing.

Print Advert

The way I came up with the idea for this print advert was because one of my classmates was wearing these ‘Nike’ trainers and I thought they looked fashionable. I borrowed the trainers off my classmate and decided to take a picture of the trainers on the treadmill. Then I found out the name of the shoes and which celebrity wears them so I combined the picture of the shoes and the celebrity. This is what helped me get the idea for my print advert.

The programme I used to create my print advert was ‘ADOBE PHOTOSHOP’ so this programme gave me the tools to help create the print advert and the effect of him holding the shoes.

The advertising techniques I used for my print advert were ‘celebrity endorsement’ by getting a picture of Lebron James. The other technique I used was promising a benefit by saying if you wear the trainers you will have the ability to become just like him.

Radio Advert

I decided to choose ‘McCoy’s crisps’ for my radio advert because I like the way they advertise the product. I mind mapped an idea and came up with a script to describe what the crisp taste like. I also used a bit of humour in my script to make audiences want to listen to the radio advert. The music I decided on was a seductive tune in the background while I explained about the experience of eating a McCoy’s crisp. I thought by having this background music it would make listeners focus on the words. We had been given voice recording equipment and found a quiet spot to record our voices so we could get the full use of the equipment. I added sound effects to my radio advert such as choir chants to emphasise how good the crisps are, an explosion to highlight the crunch of the crisp and finally created my own sound effects to open the crisp.

When I edited my advert on reaper I found it quite an easy process once I got the hang of the program. The program helped me get the final results I wanted.

The techniques I used for my radio advert was ‘exaggeration’ because I used an explosion to describe the crunch of the crisp. I also used ‘Symbolic’ because saying ‘Man crisp’ is describing the crisp as being masculine.

Reflection

I learned from the whole experience was all the different advertising technique’s through media. I know have adverts are made and now have an understanding of the message what the advert gives you.

The only difficulty I had to overcome was coming up with ideas for each advert. What helped was combining my ideas together as a group by discussing and challenging obstacles that we would come across.

If I could do things differently the next time I would work with different people because it was difficult to keep them occupied and focused. I didn’t feel the group taken it as serious as myself. I would also use a different brand of product because I could maybe use different techniques which I hadn’t used before. Other than that I enjoyed the project and now know more about advertising as a whole.
