Sarah ScottmiddotCound - Director Sarah IS delighted to have been chosen as Director for Calamity Jane Following in the footsteps of her mother her first stage expe rien ce was t the age of 11 in 1984 when she appeared in Newbury Nomads production of Rddler on The Roof She joined Newbury Operatic Soci ety in 1991 for the Old Tyme Music Hall Since then Sarah has perfo rmed in a wide varie ty of roles with local societies her favourites being Ado Annie in Oklahoma l and The Witch in Into The Woods Sarah has also been involved in producing lighting stage crew makemiddotup and props She believes that to be th e best you can be out front it is essential to un ers tand the roles of the rest of the team working alongside you Th is Is Sarahs first time directing a fullmiddotsca le production and she would like to th ank everyone she has worked with in the past both on stage amp beh ind the scenes for the knowledge that they have shared and the confidence they hav instilled to insp ire her to take on the role as director She has really enjoyed this experience and Is looking forward to seeing the ast up th ere all lit up and reap ing the benefi ts or their hard work

Michael Evans lRAM ARCM ATCl GRSM - Musical Director Michael ha worked with the society for 27 years His firsl show was The Mikado in 197 He studied at The Royal Academy of Music with Michael Head Ernest Re ad and Sir john Barbirolli In 1964 he was appointed head of mus Ic at Bulmershe School Reading and from 1974-1987 he was Music Advisor for Oxfordsh ire He has cond ucted the Berksh ire Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire Youth Orchestra at the Royal Alb rt Hall and the Royal Festival Hall Michael has worked extensively with child ren with severe physical disabil ities 81 a school near Aldershot He has played the organ in St Edwards Cath dra l jerusalem and has performed on radio and televis ion Micha I has acted as Musical Director for over 150 musicals and operettas with operatic socielies in Reading Oxford Maidenhead Slough and of course Newbury

Debbie Akers - ChoreogTilpher Debbie Is rathe r more used to being on the other side of the directors table having performed in musica l productions since the age of 3 however whilst studying performing arts at college she also took A-Levels in choreography and now enjoys tearhing various aspects of dance and movement Within local schoo ls Th is is her first project of thiS size and she has thoroughly enjoyed working on Calamity jane although working with so many me has proved challenging at times She feels she has never worked with a more committed group of people and Is looking forward to a next time

Zoe Wells - Calamity Jane

Since joining NOS 11 years ago Zoe has en j yed taking part in many productions participating mostly as a chorus member but more recently she has been lucky enough to enjoy principal rales The first of these was Nellie Forebush in So uth Pdcific and then Mrs Molloy in las year production of Hello Dolly She cant tell you how much she is enjoying playing Calamity Jane and she hopes you enjoy watching the show as much as she has in rehears ing it 5e ya in Deadwood

Russell Barrett - Wild Bill Hickok This will be Russells 21st year in local theatre and is a special anniversary as 21 years go Russell played Fra ncis Fryer in his first ever show Calamity Jane During his time in AmDr m

ussell has played a waiter in Sou th Pacific Curly in Okla homa Dan Mendoza in Jack The Ripper and Dr Prospero in Return to The Forbidden Planet Russe ll has thoroughly enj oyed his role in Calamity Jane and will be thoroughly looking forward to se ei ng his own chin again after shaving off hIs recent growthl

Rowena Robinson - Katie Brown This IS Ro s first princip [ part with NOS since mov ing down from Manchester two years ago Previously she has been involved on stage playing Hodel in Fiddler on the RooF Sandra in Breezeblock Park and more recently Bernstein in KATS production of Little Shop of ~I o rrors She has also been Involved on the dark side as Assistant Stage Manager for West Side Story at Manchester Dance House and as general theatre grunt for many productions both in Manchester and Newbury She is rea lly looking forward to stepping back out of the shadows as Katie Brown Clnd not keeping her talent under her hat

Neil Harvey - Lt Danny GIlmartin Neil has returned to NOS after an 8 year absence From the chorus in his flrst show Me and My Girl in 1998 to the dizzy heights of Danny Gilmartin in 2006 A wife and two children later Neils Job as a Creative Director in a London advertl ing agency needed a supplement of escapism Where better to prance and sing than on the stage here in Newbury Neil st ill cant quite believe he got the part He will by the end of the week

Utku Er - Francis Fryer Utku first sang In university chorus for 2 years and joined Newbury Operatic in 2004 Utku was a mere chorus member in Hello Dolly his first ever show with us He plays guitar and harmonica enjoys photography and short movies During the day he is a telecomms consultant which is why he needs music I guess In case the girls are Interested he is single and lives in Newbury His phone num ber is )

Beverly Witts - Adelaide Adams Beverley has been treading the boards from an early age firstly as a dancer (her first love) later s a singer She has enjoyed playing the roles of Azuri in Desert Song Helene in Sweet Charity Tzeitel in Fiddler on the Roof Velma Kelly in Chicago Christine In Chorus Line Favourites includ An ita in West Side Story and Dulcie in The Boyfriend Recently she has performed III the chorus of two Operas which she found extremely challenging and very enjoyable Looking forward to playing Adelaide Adams

THE STORY

The year is 1876 and Ca lamity Jane (Calam to her frien ds) runs the stag coach from

Deadwood Ci ty South Dakota She has no time for frills dressing like a man and

carrying a gun After each journey she entertains the locals with stories of wha t has

happened alon g the way exaggerating even more with each telling of the tale Despite

her rough exterior she has a soft heart and has fallen for Lieutenant Dan ny Gilmartin

from nearby Fort Scully but he seems unaware of her interest Bi II Hickok is her friend

and sparring partner and they delight in scoring points off each other Henry Miller

who runs the local saloon IS waiting impatiently for the stagecoach to arrive as he has

engaged a music hall act but the new arrival is not what he is expecting leadIng to a

riot in the saloon To try to calm the situation calamity promises to bring the famous

Adelaide Adams from Chicago as the star attraction but another misunderstanding

occurs and Calamity takes back not Adelaide but her dresser Katie Brown leading to

yet another riot However Katie soon becomes favourite with the townsfolk

particularly Bil l and Danny The two men take Katie and Calamity to a ball at Fort

Scully during which Calamity fi nds Danny embracing Katie and flies into a jealous rage

Katie leaves town but both Bill and Calamity have by now realised their love for each

other and Calamity races after Katie bringing her back to Deadwood for the traditional

happy ending

THE STORY

The year is 1876 and Ca lamity Jane (Calam to her frien ds) runs the stag coach from

Deadwood Ci ty South Dakota She has no time for frills dressing like a man and

carrying a gun After each journey she entertains the locals with stories of wha t has

happened alon g the way exaggerating even more with each telling of the tale Despite

her rough exterior she has a soft heart and has fallen for Lieutenant Dan ny Gilmartin

from nearby Fort Scully but he seems unaware of her interest Bi II Hickok is her friend

and sparring partner and they delight in scoring points off each other Henry Miller

who runs the local saloon IS waiting impatiently for the stagecoach to arrive as he has

engaged a music hall act but the new arrival is not what he is expecting leadIng to a

riot in the saloon To try to calm the situation calamity promises to bring the famous

Adelaide Adams from Chicago as the star attraction but another misunderstanding

occurs and Calamity takes back not Adelaide but her dresser Katie Brown leading to

yet another riot However Katie soon becomes favourite with the townsfolk

particularly Bil l and Danny The two men take Katie and Calamity to a ball at Fort

Scully during which Calamity fi nds Danny embracing Katie and flies into a jealous rage

Katie leaves town but both Bill and Calamity have by now realised their love for each

other and Calamity races after Katie bringing her back to Deadwood for the traditional

happy ending

Sarah ScottmiddotCound - Director Sarah IS delighted to have been chosen as Director for Calamity Jane Following in the footsteps of her mother her first stage expe rien ce was t the age of 11 in 1984 when she appeared in Newbury Nomads production of Rddler on The Roof She joined Newbury Operatic Soci ety in 1991 for the Old Tyme Music Hall Since then Sarah has perfo rmed in a wide varie ty of roles with local societies her favourites being Ado Annie in Oklahoma l and The Witch in Into The Woods Sarah has also been involved in producing lighting stage crew makemiddotup and props She believes that to be th e best you can be out front it is essential to un ers tand the roles of the rest of the team working alongside you Th is Is Sarahs first time directing a fullmiddotsca le production and she would like to th ank everyone she has worked with in the past both on stage amp beh ind the scenes for the knowledge that they have shared and the confidence they hav instilled to insp ire her to take on the role as director She has really enjoyed this experience and Is looking forward to seeing the ast up th ere all lit up and reap ing the benefi ts or their hard work

Michael Evans lRAM ARCM ATCl GRSM - Musical Director Michael ha worked with the society for 27 years His firsl show was The Mikado in 197 He studied at The Royal Academy of Music with Michael Head Ernest Re ad and Sir john Barbirolli In 1964 he was appointed head of mus Ic at Bulmershe School Reading and from 1974-1987 he was Music Advisor for Oxfordsh ire He has cond ucted the Berksh ire Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire Youth Orchestra at the Royal Alb rt Hall and the Royal Festival Hall Michael has worked extensively with child ren with severe physical disabil ities 81 a school near Aldershot He has played the organ in St Edwards Cath dra l jerusalem and has performed on radio and televis ion Micha I has acted as Musical Director for over 150 musicals and operettas with operatic socielies in Reading Oxford Maidenhead Slough and of course Newbury

Debbie Akers - ChoreogTilpher Debbie Is rathe r more used to being on the other side of the directors table having performed in musica l productions since the age of 3 however whilst studying performing arts at college she also took A-Levels in choreography and now enjoys tearhing various aspects of dance and movement Within local schoo ls Th is is her first project of thiS size and she has thoroughly enjoyed working on Calamity jane although working with so many me has proved challenging at times She feels she has never worked with a more committed group of people and Is looking forward to a next time

Zoe Wells - Calamity Jane

Rowena Robinson - Katie Brown This IS Ro s first princip [ part with NOS since mov ing down from Manchester two years ago Previously she has been involved on stage playing Hodel in Fiddler on the RooF Sandra in Breezeblock Park and more recently Bernstein in KATS production of Little Shop of ~I o rrors She has also been Involved on the dark side as Assistant Stage Manager for West Side Story at Manchester Dance House and as general theatre grunt for many productions both in Manchester and Newbury She is rea lly looking forward to stepping back out of the shadows as Katie Brown Clnd not keeping her talent under her hat

Neil Harvey - Lt Danny GIlmartin Neil has returned to NOS after an 8 year absence From the chorus in his flrst show Me and My Girl in 1998 to the dizzy heights of Danny Gilmartin in 2006 A wife and two children later Neils Job as a Creative Director in a London advertl ing agency needed a supplement of escapism Where better to prance and sing than on the stage here in Newbury Neil st ill cant quite believe he got the part He will by the end of the week

Paul Strickland - Henry Miller Paul joined the society for the 2003 pro duction of South Pacific Prior stage experience was limited to a primary school nativi ty play and a few months playing with a punk band In his native Coventry This Is Pauls nrst principal role and although he is enjoying the challenge or working face to face with the more experienced members of the society he misses the camaraderie (and relative safety) of the men s chorus Paul also appeared (as an apostle) in the 2004 Nomads production of lesus Christ Superstar

THE STORY

The year is 1876 and Ca lamity Jane (Calam to her frien ds) runs the stag coach from

Deadwood Ci ty South Dakota She has no time for frills dressing like a man and

carrying a gun After each journey she entertains the locals with stories of wha t has

happened alon g the way exaggerating even more with each telling of the tale Despite

her rough exterior she has a soft heart and has fallen for Lieutenant Dan ny Gilmartin

from nearby Fort Scully but he seems unaware of her interest Bi II Hickok is her friend

and sparring partner and they delight in scoring points off each other Henry Miller

who runs the local saloon IS waiting impatiently for the stagecoach to arrive as he has

engaged a music hall act but the new arrival is not what he is expecting leadIng to a

riot in the saloon To try to calm the situation calamity promises to bring the famous

Adelaide Adams from Chicago as the star attraction but another misunderstanding

occurs and Calamity takes back not Adelaide but her dresser Katie Brown leading to

yet another riot However Katie soon becomes favourite with the townsfolk

particularly Bil l and Danny The two men take Katie and Calamity to a ball at Fort

Scully during which Calamity fi nds Danny embracing Katie and flies into a jealous rage

Katie leaves town but both Bill and Calamity have by now realised their love for each

other and Calamity races after Katie bringing her back to Deadwood for the traditional

happy ending

Paul Strickland - Henry Miller Paul joined the society for the 2003 pro duction of South Pacific Prior stage experience was limited to a primary school nativi ty play and a few months playing with a punk band In his native Coventry This Is Pauls nrst principal role and although he is enjoying the challenge or working face to face with the more experienced members of the society he misses the camaraderie (and relative safety) of the men s chorus Paul also appeared (as an apostle) in the 2004 Nomads production of lesus Christ Superstar

THE STORY

The year is 1876 and Ca lamity Jane (Calam to her frien ds) runs the stag coach from

Deadwood Ci ty South Dakota She has no time for frills dressing like a man and

carrying a gun After each journey she entertains the locals with stories of wha t has

happened alon g the way exaggerating even more with each telling of the tale Despite

her rough exterior she has a soft heart and has fallen for Lieutenant Dan ny Gilmartin

from nearby Fort Scully but he seems unaware of her interest Bi II Hickok is her friend

and sparring partner and they delight in scoring points off each other Henry Miller

who runs the local saloon IS waiting impatiently for the stagecoach to arrive as he has

engaged a music hall act but the new arrival is not what he is expecting leadIng to a

riot in the saloon To try to calm the situation calamity promises to bring the famous

Adelaide Adams from Chicago as the star attraction but another misunderstanding

occurs and Calamity takes back not Adelaide but her dresser Katie Brown leading to

yet another riot However Katie soon becomes favourite with the townsfolk

particularly Bil l and Danny The two men take Katie and Calamity to a ball at Fort

Scully during which Calamity fi nds Danny embracing Katie and flies into a jealous rage

Katie leaves town but both Bill and Calamity have by now realised their love for each

other and Calamity races after Katie bringing her back to Deadwood for the traditional

happy ending

Scene 5 The Golden Garter

THE STORY

The year is 1876 and Ca lamity Jane (Calam to her frien ds) runs the stag coach from

Deadwood Ci ty South Dakota She has no time for frills dressing like a man and

carrying a gun After each journey she entertains the locals with stories of wha t has

happened alon g the way exaggerating even more with each telling of the tale Despite

her rough exterior she has a soft heart and has fallen for Lieutenant Dan ny Gilmartin

from nearby Fort Scully but he seems unaware of her interest Bi II Hickok is her friend

and sparring partner and they delight in scoring points off each other Henry Miller

who runs the local saloon IS waiting impatiently for the stagecoach to arrive as he has

engaged a music hall act but the new arrival is not what he is expecting leadIng to a

riot in the saloon To try to calm the situation calamity promises to bring the famous

Adelaide Adams from Chicago as the star attraction but another misunderstanding

occurs and Calamity takes back not Adelaide but her dresser Katie Brown leading to

yet another riot However Katie soon becomes favourite with the townsfolk

particularly Bil l and Danny The two men take Katie and Calamity to a ball at Fort

Scully during which Calamity fi nds Danny embracing Katie and flies into a jealous rage

Katie leaves town but both Bill and Calamity have by now realised their love for each

other and Calamity races after Katie bringing her back to Deadwood for the traditional

happy ending
