ABOUT US
BBS was founded in 1933 as a general builiding & agricultural merchant. Originally based in a five story building in Victoria Street, Central Bristol, it was started by Alfred Francis Moon who went onto become Lord Mayor of Bristol in 1937.
Aquired by his grandson Gordon Moon in the mid fifties, the firm moved into sanitary ware and central heating and in 1982 moved to the central trading estate due to the compulsory purchase of their existing building for road development.
As the firm expanded they outgrew these premises quickly and moved to their current location close to the Feeder Road in Bristol.
Now with 20 employees the firm have established themselves as a major supplier of Commercial sanitary ware and heating equipment, supplying large M&E contractors as well as a broad base of customers across the plumbing and heating industry including local councils, universities and the NHS. We have supplied projects of all sizes including Bristol Airport, Caerphilly Hospital, Temple Quay office developemnt in Bristol, Bowood Golf Hotel and the MOD refurbishment of Innsworth Barracks.
We hold stocks in excess of 6,000 items to enable us to satisfy orders quickly and in full. We offer a friendly, professional and effient service and are proud of our reputation for a full backup and spares service to existing and new customers.
We have a large Bathroom Showroom with over 30 displays. We are approved retailers for a number of major brands such as Villeroy & Boch, Vitra, Ideal Standard, Matki shower doors and Vado Brassware.
In addition we are able to supply a full range of renewable technologies such as, biomass, ground source, air source and rainwater harvesting. We can also help you obtain MCS accreditation to access the government renewable heat incentives.

We have had PV solar panels installed for several years making a saving in electricity and reducing our carbon footprint as well as contributing back to the national grid.
We encourage the use of cycles by our staff and have several who regularly cycle to work, all our waste is recycled and we are actively work to reduce packaging waste and control transport costs using local supply chains wherever possible.
We draw our employees from the local area and offer a career structure and training programme to both apprentices and experienced employees to allow them to fulfil their potential and enjoy a fulfilling working career. Staff development is important to BBS and all staff are encouraged to continuously further their education, we make extensive use of our trade federation ( the BMF) to offer courses in product knowledge, customer service, management , health and safety etc.
We support local sports clubs, charitable groups and churches and sponser the local currency the Bristol pound. Staff are encouraged to contribute time and money to assist in charitable initiatives.
BBS are major sponsers of the Bristol pound the UKs first city wide local currency established in 2011 as a not-for-profit social enterprise & build community connections to create a fairer, stronger, happier local economy.
We feel this is an important local initiative now, more than ever, where multi-nationals control so much of the economy important that small business understand the issues of keeping money within the local economy.
We believe independant businesses have more to offer to the area in which they trade than national or global companies and they should be encouraged by government & local councils allowing them access to quote for landmark projects within their area.
