Motivation

More and more Software Engineers are involved in projects with multicultural characteristics, such as:

Distributed teams Project language vs. native language Cultural differences Different locations Different timezones ...

Problem: (Higher) education still focuses on teaching technical skills.

However, sebis joined a group of international engineering schools to incorporate non-technical aspects in curricula: Network of Engineering univeRsities Educating in Intercultural Design (NEREID)

Global Software Engineering Seminar

Key guidelines

• Each team will consist of students from different institutions/countries

• A final oral presentation is compulsory

• The project descriptions will be general in nature, negotiation/coordination and decision-making is up to the team

• You are free to use any means of communication

• We can not offer (financial) support for travel

Previous project: Electronic billing

ContentThe government of Mexico passed a new law which regulates the use of electronic billing. Many companies do not know how to use this new technology. The goal of this project was to make the electronic billing more accessible for customers and sellers around Mexico. More precisely, the project aimed at helping the Mexican company Siceco to build a graphical interface facilitating electronic billing.

Previous project: Carpooling and ride sharing

ContentCarpooling and ride sharing is not very common in Mexico even though both transportation means are a great way to significantly reduce traffic in big cities, and hence reducing the gas emissions and overall pollution. The goal of this project was to build a web portal solution where users can post their transportation route offers routes or their requests. The portal allowed users from the same geographical areas and with similar schedules to share rides.

Project roles

Project sponsor Proposes the topic for a SE project and validates its results Acts as local or remote business customer who formulates requirements

Supervising tutor Assists local students regarding technical and organizational issues In charge of evaluating his/her students on site Represents main coordination point between tutors and project sponsor

Student project lead Responsible for classical project management tasks Single point of contact to the project sponsor

Student project member Entrusted with common SE project tasks (e.g. development, testing) Role is determined internally by each student team
