Welcome to the financial modelling and valuation program conducted by the Indian Institute of Management

Kozhikode. The program is expected to expose the candidates to the challenges involved in financial

modelling and valuation of financial and real assets. The initial part of the course provides the foundations

and tools to help participants evaluate the capital investments, pricing of securities, and cost of capital. The

emphasis on both financial theory and practice would help the candidates to understand the financial

markets.

The latter part of the module provides an exposure to the valuation methods of various sectors and

industries. The emphasis on modelling equips the participants to independently value acquisitions and

disposal of corporate assets, strategic mergers and acquisitions, and capital investment decisions. The

in-depth focus on each topic is intended to help participants build necessary skills over the course of the

program.

While the course covers the key concepts in financial modelling and valuations, it focuses on the application

of concepts. The course would be conducted through a combination of lectures, in-class exercises in excel,

and case studies. The pedagogy followed for this course would equip the participants with real-world skills.

Dr. Balagopal GopalaKrishnanAssistant ProfessorFinance, Accounting and Control

Dr. Balagopal Gopalakrishnan obtained his doctorate in Finance

and Accounting from Indian Institute of Management

Ahmedabad. He is also an MBA in Finance from S P Jain

School of Global Management and B.E. (E.C.E.) from National

Institute of Technology, Surathkal, Karnataka.

Dr Gopalakrishnan brings with him nearly eight years of

corporate experience in domains such as risk management and

data analytics. His research interests are in banking, financing

of firms, and international finance.

Dr. Jijo Lukose P JAssociate ProfessorFinance, Accounting and Control

Dr. Jijo Lukose P.J. obtained his doctorate from School of

Management, IIT Bombay after completing his masters in

business finance from Cochin University. He is also a qualified

cost accountant. Prof. Jijo has more than fifteen years of

experience in teaching MBA students and executives.

Prof. Jijo has designed and delivered training programmes for

World Bank, ICICI Bank, Bank of America, CRISIL, TAFE,

Sundram Fasteners, Ashok Leyland Finance, GMMCO,

Ventureast, BPCL, Reserve Bank of India.

ADMISSION

Eligibility

Graduation/Diploma (10+2+3) from a recognised university

(UGC/AICTE/DEC/AIU/State Government/recognised international

universities) in any discipline.

A minimum one year of work experience (after graduation) as on 1

September 2019.

Attendance

A minimum of 75% attendance is a prerequisite for the successful

completion of this programme. Participants, who successfully complete

the same and satisfy the requisite attendance criteria, will be awarded a

certificate of completion.

Participants who are unable to clear the evaluation criteria but have the

requisite attendance will be awarded a Participation Certificate.

Evaluation

There will be periodic evaluations built-in throughout the course. These

may be in the form of a quiz, assignment, project, case studies or

another objective/subjective assessments.

Pre-requsite

The participant must process basic understanding of financial

statements and financial markets.
