Play: The Foundation of Children’s Learning and Academic SuccessKathleen Kiblin, M.S.ED., NYSAEYC Credentialed Trainer

Play is often referred to as children’s work. Today, however, many providers feel increased pressure from parents and administration to concentrate more on academics and less on play. This session will call upon research to help you promote play as children’s primary foundation to learning. We will also discuss communication techniques that you can use to help assure parents that their children will achieve academic success through play.

Working and Playing Well with OthersGayle B. Nixon, M.S.ED., NYSAEYC Credentialed TrainerWorking and playing well with others requires more than just “being nice.” To be able to collaborate, children need to learn how to take turns, solve social problems, and share community space and “stuff.” Some children seem to acquire these skills naturally while other children need lots of support to learn how to play cooperatively. Come learn techniques and strategies to help your children with the skill of collaboration!

Wide World of STEM for Infants and ToddlersSara Honsberger, M.S.ED., Education & Training SpecialistSTEM is a combination of learning related to Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. Providers often think STEM is only for school-age children, but did you know infants and toddlers can benefit from the wonderful world of STEM too! In fact, every time a child explores how something is working, they are, in essence, using skills related to STEM. In this training we will discuss what STEM is and the strategies you can use to implement it with the infants and toddlers in your classrooms.
