Specific duties To share the management of the work of the Teaching Assistant in Year 4. As negotiated with Headteacher

CurriculumTo ensure high quality learning experiences (in line with the aims and objectives of the School Teaching and Learning Policy) for pupils through:

Quality planning of the curriculum for the allocated class of pupils, in accordance with school policy and agreed schemes of work and in collaboration with the Key Stage team.

Delivering this curriculum through effective teaching strategies and learning experiences matching these to the needs of all pupils in the class.

Making effective learning resources accessible to pupils and ensuring that these are properly stored and cared for.

Establishing and fostering good relationships with pupils, parents and school staff to ensure a positive and supportive learning ethos.

Liaising with Year 3 and Year 5 Class Teachers to ensure continuity and progression.

Assessment, reporting and recordingIn accordance with the Assessment, Recording and Reporting Policy and guidelines:

Determine and use appropriate modes of assessment through prompt marking/evaluation of pupils’ work and designing and using quality assessment tasks at key points of pupils’ learning.

St Peter’s Catholic Primary School Provide proper feedback to individual pupils about outcomes of assessment and their

achievements. Record the outcomes of assessment efficiently. Provide verbal or written reports about the progress of pupils and outcomes of assessment as

required by the Headteacher, Head of School, by colleagues, by parents, the government or by any other parties who need information.

Learning EnvironmentEnsure that pupils learn in an environment, which supports and stimulates learning through:

Good, purposeful organisation of the classroom space. Tidy storage of all resources so that they are easily identified and are accessible to pupils. Ensuring that there is good quality display in the classroom both to celebrate and to stimulate

learning. Taking a shared responsibility for the display of work around the School. Advising colleagues on subject requirements for material and physical resources.

Pastoral and Behaviour Management Provide high quality pastoral care of all pupils to implement policies concerning pastoral care,

equal opportunities and health and safety. Provide learning experiences that ensure personal, social and spiritual development of all

pupils in the class. Implement policies and guidelines concerned with good discipline in the classroom and the

effective, positive behaviour management of pupils to ensure mutual respect, self- control and positive collaboration among pupils themselves, between the pupils and the teacher, and between pupils and all other adults whom they encounter in school.

To monitor the well-being of all pupils.

Communication Liaise with, and direct the activities of Teaching Assistants, students and volunteer helpers. Engage in professional dialogue with the Senior Leadership Team and staff at meetings. Discuss with members of the Senior Leadership Team feedback from lesson observations. Contact, where appropriate, members of the Senior Leadership Team, DCPC, parents,

outside agencies in relation to individual pupils. Report to/consult with the Senior Leadership Team, as appropriate, any

pastoral/medical/social/behaviour problems concerning pupils – and take appropriate action in their absence.

Professional Expertise Contribute to the quality of the curriculum by providing expertise to the teachers in the

school in the field of mathematics, advising on policy and practice, and keeping abreast of development in it to update staff.

To work within the aims and objectives of the school and to adhere to school policies To understand and apply school policies in relation to health, safety, welfare and

behaviour management. To respect confidentiality at all times. To demonstrate the positive values, attitudes and behaviour they expect from children. To be aware of the current legal requirements and policy concerning the well being of

children. To be an active team member and identify opportunities for working with colleagues, and

sharing the development of effective practice with them. To share in the corporate life of the school and be involved in extra curricular activities as

negotiated with the Senior Leadership Team.

Professional DevelopmentTo engage in the Performance Management process in order to develop and actively update knowledge and skills, which enhance professional performance in the classroom.To agree specific targets, with the team leader, within the scope of this job description and within the context of the School Improvement Plan and Subject Leader Action Plan 2011.
