Kingstown College is delighted to welcome Professor David
Megginson to Ireland this Autumn to give a Masterclass drawn
from his book Beyond Goals: Effective Strategies for Coaching &
Mentoring co-edited with David Clutterbuck and Susan David of
Harvard University.
Drawing on the conclusions of the distinguished range of
researchers compiled from Australia, the UK and the US,
Professor Megginson will be opening up for examination the
implications of these findings for our coaching practice.
WORKSHOP CONTENT: Are SMART goals a central part of coaching and
mentoring? What other sorts of goals are there? How might
they be incorporated into our practice?
What are the implications of this analysis for a focus on
performance?
What is the difference between European and American
coaches in their approach to goals? Why might these
differences exist and what might we do about them?
Is it possible to coach without goals? What might be the
effects of coaching without goals?
Beyond Goals advances standard goal-setting theory by bringing
together cutting-edge perspectives from leaders in coaching and
mentoring. From psychology to neuroscience, from chaos theory
to social network theory, the contributors offer diverse and
compelling insights into both the advantages and limitations of
goal pursuit. The result is a more nuanced understanding of goals,
with the possibility for practitioners to bring greater impact and
sophistication to their client engagements. The implications are
substantial for all those practising as coaches or managing
mentoring init iatives in organisations.
One day workshop (10am – 4pm) For more information call the
office on 1890-788-788 or visit www.kingstowncollege.ie
‘What a relief. Finally an
academically sound and
engrossing recognition that goals
in coaching are simultaneously
central and irrelevant.
Demonstrating li fe 's elegant non-
linearity, the authors ask us to
question current coaching lore and
to build up an up-to-date
understanding of the real nature
of goals in coaching and
mentoring. A mind-opening feast.'
