received "Outstanding Clinical Investigator Award for advancement of

Paromomycin as Clinical trial in VL cases in Bihar" by the Institute for One World

Health (iOWH), San Francisco, USA

Attended Principal Investigators meeting of Paromomycin phase IV drug trial,

organized by iOWH, San Francisco, USA in Atlanta from 12-15 Nov. 2006.

2. Dr. C. P. Thakur, honorable Chairman, of the Institution participated in the

conference of 55th American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygienie, held at

Atlanta, USA and gave a talk on treatment of kala-azar. (12-16 November 2007).

3. Dr. C. P. Thakur, honorable Chairman, of the Institution participated in the

conference of 56th American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygienic, held at

Philadelphia USA and gave a talk on treatment of kala-azar and Co-Chaired a Session

on Treatment of Leishmaniasis. (04-08 November 2007).

4. He also participated in Principal Investigators meeting of Miltefosine, there which

was held under the auspices of World Health Organization, Geneva and reviewed the

progress of research work done on miltefosine in India, Bangladesh and Nepal on

treatment of PKDL, 7th Nov. 2007 at Philadelphia, USA.

5. Meeting at Kathmandu: - A WHO sponsored inciting was held at Kathmandu on

30th October to 02nd November 2006. Second Regional Technical Advisory Group

(RTAG) meeting on Elimination of kala-azar. The chairman attended this meeting of

a member.

6. A South East Asia WHO sponsored a meeting at Kathmandu in July 2007 to review

the situation of kala-azar in Bihar, Bangladesh and Nepal and a plan was formulated

to eliminate kala-azar from this region. Members from Bangladesh, India, Nepal,

WHO Geneva WHO Delhi, England and United State attended this meeting.

Chairman attended this meeting as a member.

7. Meeting at Bangladesh: - First meeting of the WHO/SE of the Regional Technical

Advisory group on kala-azar was held on 20-23 December 2004. Heritage Hotel

Maneser, Hargoan. This discussed the steps which will be taken in implementation of

elimination of kala-azar from India, Nepal and Bangladesh.

• His suggestions have been accepted by WHO and other international organizations

and have been incorporated in text book of medicine. A BRIEF SUMMARY OF SOME RESEARCH AND PUBLICATIONS He has revolutionized the concept of the treatment of kala-azar and post kala-azar dermal leishmaniasis. Research on full moon and poisoning published in BMJ and other journals has attracted the attention of Scientists all over the world and has been abstracted in almost all the national daily newspapers, periodicals including Science Reporter. Published more than 100 research papers in national and prestigious International Journals (List attached). Research paper on the Epidemic Dropsy included in the “Text Book of Park’s Preventive and Social Medicine and in the “Recent Advances of Medicine” edited by MSM Ahuja, AIIMS, New Delhi. Research work on Heart Diseases reviewed by late Prof. J.C. Banerjee of Calcutta in the chapter on heart disease in India during the last 25 years during Silver Jubilee Session of “Association of Physician of India”, the only such paper from Bihar. Research works in neurology was reviewed in Neurology in India during last 25 years, the only paper from Bihar, reviewed in Journal of Association of Physicians of India, 1975. Silver Jubilee number. Olliaro and ADM Brycession in Parasitology To-day, 1993;9:323-328 remarked “Longer courses will clearly be needed and physicians should follow Thakur’s example of treatment of VL (Visceral Leishmaniasis or kala-azar) in India”
