Dr. Genco graduated from the School of Medicine at Stony Brook University/State University of New York in Stony Brook, N.Y. He completed his internship and residency in general surgery, and served as chief surgical resident at the same institution. Dr. Kleynberg received his medical degree from Tashkent Pediatric Medical Institute in Uzbekistan. He practiced anesthesiology for more than 10 years before coming to the United States. He completed an internship at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio, and a year of special training in cardiac anes-thesiology at the Cleveland Clinic Founda-tion. Gregory G. Pellizzon, M.D., is an interventional cardiologist on the active medical staff at MidMichigan Medical Center–Midland and affiliated with Michigan CardioVascular Institute (MCVI).

Dr. Pellizzon received his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine, Detroit, and completed a residen-cy at Kalamazoo Center for Medical Studies, Kalamazoo. Dr. Pellizzon completed fellow-ships in cardiovascular disease at William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, and in

Cardiac Mid-Level ProvidersEd Flattery, P.A.-C., a certified physician assistant, provides in-patient care in collaboration with the Michigan CardioVascular Institute (MCVI) cardi-ologists. He completed the physician assistant program at Western Michigan University and received a Bachelor of Science in Medicine degree. He has been affiliated with MCVI for 15 years as a physician assistant. Prior to becoming a physician assistant, Ed worked as an athletic trainer in minor league hockey.

Sheila Wing, P.A.-C., a certified physi-cian assistant, assists surgeons during cardiac surgery and monitors patient care during the pre- and post-operative periods. She completed the physician assistant pro-gram and received a Master of Science degree from Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant. MidMichigan Locations Adopt Tobacco-Free EnvironmentOn January 1, a tobacco-free environment went into effect at all MidMichigan affiliates. MidMichigan Medical Center–Gladwin and Gratiot Medical Center earlier adopted a tobacco-free policy, and now the other affiliates are instituting it as well.

MidMichigan’s tobacco-free policy is in ac-cord with the Michigan Hospital Association’s Campaign for Smoke-Free Hospitals. The policy defines tobacco products as chewing tobacco, cigarettes, cigars, pipes or other lighted smoking devices.

Use of these tobacco products is not permitted on the properties, including

medical office buildings, buildings being constructed or renovated, leased offices, other temporary structures and medical center vehicles. Employees and visitors who must smoke are only allowed to do so in their own, closed, private vehicles.

To help smokers kick the habit, MidMichigan offers several smoking cessation options.
