How does the PYP promote International Mindedness?
● The program focuses on global and local issues, not just those of one particular country or culture.
● The program emphasises the enduring understanding that all cultures have equal validity and to practice tolerance and intercultural understanding.
● The program exposes students to different cultures within and outside the school.
● Well designed units of inquiry encourage students to investigate human commonality, diversity and multiple perspectives
● Teachers, leadership and parents are also expected to model and demonstrate international-mindedness
![Page 13: PROGRAM AT THE PRIMARY YEARS€¦ · How does the PYP promote International Mindedness? The program focuses on global and local issues, not just those of one particular country or](https://reader030.vdocument.in/reader030/viewer/2022041006/5eac1546df2b10268f55b2f4/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
Constructivism● Constructivism is the way students
construct their own understanding and knowledge of the world, through experiences and reflecting on those experiences.
● When we encounter something new, we have to reconcile it with our previous ideas (make connections) and experiences, maybe changing what we believe or think.
● This constructivism occurs regularly in social situations at school

It is also important to remember that we will need to investigate and locate factual information during the unit to help us be
able to make connections and think conceptually . This is part of the role of the
lines of inquiry as they provide the knowledge base.

Taking Action
(c) IBO 2003
Through the process of action • the students reflect, choose
then act on their understanding they have gained in a unit of inquiry.
• the students may make changes in their own behavior and their attitudes.
• effective action is voluntary and is viewed as a part of the students’ active participation in their own learning.
• taking no action can be considered action at times
