Title: Pulse Mapping Analysis in Chinese Medicine Science

Abstract: Pulse diagnosis has been developed for

several decades, however, most efforts focused on

pulse wave analysis of a single-point pulse wave

(SSPW) measured at radial artery that is quite limited

to translate pulse feeling. Recently, instead of SSPW,

three-dimensional pulse mapping or image (3DPM or

3DPI) obtained using an array sensor has been

proposed to give better translation of pulse feeling.

3DPI is a dynamic image showing the spatial and

temporal movement of the pressure pulse traveling on

the radial artery. Three remarkable different pulse

images such as normal, string-like, and slippery were

shown to closely translate pulse feeling in Chinese

Medicine (CM) texts. The holistic diagnosis model

inherited for over two thousand years was also partially proved by the enhancement of 3DPM

at right Guang and later left Guang in response to the incitation of the digestive system as

eating the breakfast. Pulse mapping or image analysis (PMA or PIA) instead of pulse wave

analysis (PWA) was proposed to conduct the signal processing of 3DPI, not just SSPW. The

indices elucidated from 3DPM successfully predicted the rising of blood pressure by cold

pressor test same as the augment index got from PWA. Several clinic case studies treated

with herb medicine were also reported to cure the diseases efficiently by using the pulse

diagnosis for the holistic estimation. It is quite expected that holistic diagnosis and treatment

would become a hot medicine to compensate the disadvantages of precision medicine, which

is lack of the holistic health information.

Title: Polysaccharides from edible/medicinal fungi: structures, bioactivities and possible

mechanisms of action Abstract: Edible and medicinal fungi or mushrooms provide

an abundant source of polysaccharides with notable health

benefits and bioactivities such as antitumor,

immunomodulation, antioxidant, and anti-inflammation. The

most common structures of fungal polysaccharide with

-glucans,

while various other homo- and hetero-glycans have also been

documented in the literature. The bioactivities of

polysaccharides are dependent on their structural

characteristics and molecular properties including

monosaccharide composition, side chain, degree of branching,

molecular weight, and chain conformation. A generally recognized role of the polysaccharides

in the interactions with human and animal cells is acting as biological response modifiers

(BMRs) to modulate the innate and adaptive immunity of host cells. Different transmembrane

receptors are involved in mediating the immune responses of different polysaccharide

structures through multiple signal pathways. In addition to immunomodulation and the related

mechanism, the polysaccharides from edible and medicinal fungi have recently been

recognized as potential prebiotics for human gut microbiota. As the gut microbiota have many

functions in human health and disease, the health benefits of mushroom polysaccharides may

be directly or indirectly associated with their prebiotic functions. The structure-activity

relationships and the mechanisms of action are among the most important and complex

problems for further investigation of the bioactive mushroom polysaccharides. This lecture will

review the molecular properties, bioactivities and health products of polysaccharides derived

from edible and medicinal fungi, their immunomodulation and prebiotic functions in gut

microbiota, and discuss the possible mechanisms of action.

Title: Laser Treatment of Port Wine Stain: Mechanism and Optimization

Abstract: Port wine stains (PWS) are congenital vascular

malformations that progressively darken and thicken with

age. Laser therapy is currently the most effective way in

clinical practice for PWS. Pulsed dye laser (PDL) is a

commonly used treatment for Port Wine Stain birthmarks

(PWS). However, deeper components of PWS are often

resistant to PDL. Deeper penetrating lasers, including the

long pulsed Nd:YAG laser have been used, but carry

greater risk. This study evaluates the distinct blood vessel

thermal responses to visible (595 nm) and near infrared

(1064 nm) lasers using animal and numerical models. In

vivo dorsal skin chamber visualization experiment

revealed that PDL irradiation was characterized by

immediate blood vessel hemorrhage and Nd:YAG by

complete blood vessel constriction, separately caused by

preferential heating of the superior parts of large blood vessels, and more uniform heating of

vessel walls. However, because of its relatively weak absorption by blood, single-pulse

Nd:YAG laser requires high energy density to cause effective vessel damage, but may inflict

undesirable burning to surrounding collagen. Multi-pulse laser has great potential in clinical

treatment because it needs less energy density for each pulse. Experimental and theoretical

study of the transient thermal effects of low-energy multi-pulse Nd:YAG laser on blood

vessels was also conducted. It was revealed that thrombus that completely occludes the vessel

lumen is the prerequisite for thread-like appearance, which is the desirable clinical end point.

For multi-pulse treatment, laser parameters are recommended including frequency, pulse

number, and incident energy in each pulse.

Abstract: Businesses increasing global in scope; more and more companies achieve

competitive advantages by expanding their operations in a global scale. Due to global

economy and volatile markets, there is a need for customization to respond to customer

demands and gain competitive advantages. Competition no long between companies, but

supply chain and networks of firms. Human resource, cost, quality, quick response are needed
