How to Use This GuideWeve listed information about hundreds of programs designed just for girls. Girl Scouts of Northern California offers activities council-wide from Eureka to Red Bluff, San Jose to San Francisco, Santa Rosa to Oakland, and all points in between, so that you can discover exciting opportunities to try new things, and develop new friendships in your area. We encourage you to participate in events everywhere!

This guidebook uses the Girl Scout Pathways as designations for program categories, and programs within the Event Pathway are listed by Girl Scouts of Northern Californias Program Initiatives.

New This YearThis year we have added an Adult section. We have heard, loud and clear that girls have a better experience when adult volunteers have easy access to programs, information, trainings, and opportunities. Please check out the all new Adult section represented by the gray tab.

Pathways Pathways make it easy to participate in Girl Scouts. The Series Pathway offers ongoing program sessions, while the Event Pathway features one-time experiences. The Travel Pathway inspires you to visit new places, and the Camp Pathway lets you explore the great outdoors. The most common experiences will be with your Troop taking part in Journeys, Take Action Projects, badges, and events. You can stay in one pathway or move between them. Its your choice! Whichever direction you choose, youll discover who you are and what you stand for, connect with others, and take action on things that inspire you.

Program Initiatives Girl Scouts of Northern California programs fall into five core areas: Growing Strong, Get Outdoors, Green By Nature, Girls Go Tech, and Business Smarts. Register for programs in one area or try some from each:

  • Program Registration ProcessThere are two ways in which you can register for events.

    1. Online registration Go to GirlScoutsNorCal.org/Activities use the searchable calendar to find the program you are looking for by searching by the title. This is the preferred method for program event registrations. Its faster and easier for you, less expensive for the council, and its green. We STRONGLY encourage everyone to use online registration.

    2. Fax or mail the Program Event Registration Form, found in the back of the Program and Event Guide, or on our website, to the San Jose office. Registrations cannot be taken over the phone.

SEND REGISTRATION TO: Program Registration 1310 S Bascom Ave San Jose, CA 95128 800-447-4475 ext. 2091 Phone 408-287-8025 Fax

PaymentInclude 100% payment with all registrations. You may pay with a troop debit card, Visa/MasterCard/American Express/Discover credit card, check, cash, and cookie/fall sale rewards/credits. Online registrations must be paid with a credit card, debit card, or cookie/fall sale rewards/credits. Please make checks payable to Girl Scouts. Please use blue or black ink on checks. Please do not send cash through the mail. Offline payments will be processed as they arrive at the GSNorCal office in San Jose.

Cancellation & RefundsEvents run rain or shine unless inclement weather would adversely affect the program. In those cases, participants will be notified of cancellation or rescheduling. If GSNorCal cancels the event for any reason, or cannot place participants in the event of their choice, GSNorCal will issue a refund for 100% of the registration fee.

Cancellation and refund requests must be made in writing. No refunds will be issued for registration fees of less than $10 per individual. Thirty (30) days written notice is required to receive 50% of registration fees of $10 or more per individual. Refunds for medical reasons will only be processed if notification is made before the event, and is followed within one week by a written refund request accompanied by a doctors note. No refunds will be issued for no-shows. The $15 Girl Scout membership fee is non-refundable.

Financial AssistanceFinancial assistance is available for all Girl Scout events unless otherwise noted. The Financial Aid form can be found on the financial aid page of our website, along with the Financial Aid Policies. Please complete the application and mail it with the Program Event Registration Form to the San Jose office.

Special NeedsBecause were all unique, we may have special needs that must be met so that we can attend an event. Please e-mail [email protected] if you have questions, or to find out whether or not we can accommodate special needs at the event you wish to attend. For events that include food, it is the parent/guardians responsibility to let us know about dietary restrictions. Usually we are able to accommodate many dietary needs such as gluten free, vegetarian, allergies, and dairy free if we know about them in advance. In some cases, the family will be asked to provide supplemental items.

Adult/Girl RatiosA minimum of two adults must accompany every troop to a Program and Event Guide event, unless otherwise noted in the event description. Please consult the ratios in the Council Resource Guide/Volunteer Essentials, or online at GirlScoutsNorCal.org/ CRG, for exact ratio information. Individually registered girls must be accompanied by one adult. Our primary goal is to provide programs for girls. As a result, there may not be space for additional adults above the allowable girl-adult ratio.

  • Campaign For GirlsGirl Scouts Sees an Extraordinary Opportunity. We know that organizations make better decisions and yield stronger results when women and men share leadership roles. Yet with only one girl in five believing that she has what it takes to lead, we know we need to do more.

Girl Scouts can change that. For 102 years, we have provided girls with more ways to learn and lead than any other organization. By incorporating three keys to leadership, we help girls discover themselves, connect with others, and take positive action in their communities.

  • 2015 Cookie Program Feb. 5-March 8 | Troop resources at:GirlScoutsNorCal.org/cookietroops

How to Sell CookiesEveryone knows how tasty Girl Scout cookies are, but a lot of people dont know what we learn by selling them. Were talking about things like goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethicsstuff we need to know to be successful. This year, we made a super-simple guide to help you get the most of your cookie-selling experience.

    10 Steps to Cookie-Selling Success

Say hello.Just say "hi." It gets everything off on the right foot.

Make eye contact. It can be kind of weird looking people you dont know in the eye and talking to them. But its a big part of building trust and respect for others. It says, Hey, were serious about what were doing!

Ask if shes a Girl Scout.Youll be surprised at how many Girl Scouts are out there. Over 59 million women have been part of Girl Scouts. Ask what it was like for them.

Share your goal. You and your team have set goals and made decisions about what youll do with the money you earn. Maybe youre going to a place you havent been or supporting a cause you care about. Whatever it is, let people know. Theyll be impressed.

Show off your inventory.Everyone has a favorite cookie, but there are a lot of different ones. So be prepared to tell them about all the cookies in your inventory.

Point out our new package design! The cookie boxes have a new look, telling the story of what Girl Scouts do. Show your customers the new boxes and ask what they think.

Talk about money. Money is a big responsibility. Even if you get help froma volunteer, you have to make sure you have a role in handling it and managing it. And you need your customers to know how you plan to use the money you earn. So make sure they know.

Share why youre a Girl Scout.Everyone joins Girl Scouts for a different reason. Whether it's to make friends or accomplish big thingsor bothlet people know.

Find out how you did.Your cookie business is hard work. Always welcome tips on how to be better at it. And if they don't tell you, find out! After the sale, ask the customer how the sale went and what you couldve done to make it better.

Say thanks. Saying "thank you" is easy. And it means a lot to the people buying cookies.

    Good luck!
