Community Spotlight Youth Programs Girl Scouts of Citrus Troop 869
Shining Stars Service Unit
Troop 869 set out in the Spring of 2011 to finish their Bronze Award. After being called to Central Winds Park to help clear debris after a storm the girls saw a need to add something beautiful to the park. They had their hearts set on a butterfly garden. This area would become a place for the public to enjoy as well as a nice spot for other Girl Scout troops to meet outdoors. The environment would also benefit by planting new plants and encouraging the butterflies to populate the area. The troop visited Lukas Nursery and with the help of Debi Dean, a Lukas Nursery volun-teer laid out plans and got started. The girls put in over 250 combined hours planning and in-stalling their garden. It is a beautiful addition to Central Winds Park!
