A NOTE FROM THE GM

Dear Sky Rink Friends and Families:

As we move into 2019, we are excited to mark the 50th

Anniversary of Sky Rink. Starting in 1969 on a rooftop at

33rd Street and ending with our new home at Chelsea Piers,

we are proud of what we have accomplished throughout the

years. It’s as rewarding to watch hockey players and figure

skaters work hard every day to achieve their goals as it is to

see recreational skaters discover the ice for the first time. In

a true testament to our family values, we now have several

generations of skaters that call Sky Rink home.

Our mission is to provide the best curriculum, instructors and

coaches, and to ensure our customers have a well-rounded

skating experience. Whether you’re starting with Learn to

Skate classes, competing in a Cyclones travel hockey game,

or enjoying a Sunday afternoon general skating session, the

Sky Rink team strives to exceed your expectations.

For Sky Rink, 2018 was a banner year, highlighted by

successfully assuming the management of the NYC Cyclones

Organization. The Cyclones program at Sky Rink provides

players of all ages and abilities the opportunity to practice, play

and compete for NYC’s premier youth hockey organization.

We’re thrilled that the feedback and response from the

parents and players involved in the program have been

incredibly positive.

In addition, Sky Rink Skating School’s very successful Learn

to Skate USA curriculum and extended training sessions have

provided customers with an unrivaled learning experience for

the last three years.

In 2019, the entire Sky Rink team looks forward to celebrating

“50 Years of Teaching New Yorkers How to Skate.” As

always, we value your opinion and encourage all customers to

provide feedback so that we can constantly improve upon and

provide the best possible customer experience at Sky Rink.

Here’s to 50 years of skating at Sky Rink, and to 50 more!

Sincerely,

Jim Bugenhagen

General Manager

SKATING SCHOOL

Sky Rink has been teaching New York City children and adults the fun and excitement of ice skating and hockey since 1969.

Sky Rink Skating School offers recreational group skating lessons for students of

all ages in both figure skating and hockey using a progressive, group-based format.

Skating School follows the Learn to Skate USA curriculum, which maintains that skills

learned at each level build on the preceding ones. Classes are divided by skill level

and age group, including tots, children and adults. Our professional coaches include

former national and international champions and Olympic competitors.

Skating School offers the flexibility of choosing your start date with ongoing

enrollment. To maximize learning, enrollment for a complete semester (Fall, Winter,

Spring, Summer) is recommended. If you join once the semester has started, class

fees are prorated.

Please review the 2019 Calendar on pages 8 and 9 for Skating School weeks and

holiday schedules.

LEARN TO SKATE CLASSESTots (3 - 5 years)

Our youngest students learn how to stand and balance on their own, as well as the

basics of forward and backward skating. Classes consist of 30 minutes of on-ice

instruction. Helmets are required and provided for each student. Complimentary

admission is available for one parent/guardian per tot to skate during the General

Skating session on the day of class. Skate rental is $6 per day or $40 per semester.

Children (6 - 17 years)

Children participate in a 60-minute group class once a week — on the day of your

choice — for the semester. Classes are divided according to skill level. Admission to

the General Skating session on the day of your class is included. Skate rental is $6

per day or $40 per semester. Helmet rentals are provided for each student if needed.

Adults (18+ years)

Sunday Adult Skating School classes consist of 60 minutes of on-ice instruction.

Participants receive up to three additional hours of complimentary ice time during the

General Skating session immediately following the class. Skate rental is $6 per day

or $40 per semester. Helmet rentals are provided for each student if needed. For a

weekday option, please see our Monday Adult Skate Night class.

to Skate program, skaters are eligible to

join Cyclones Hockey Prep. This program

further develops skating skills and basic hockey skills. Cyclones

Hockey Prep is designed to prepare players ages 4 and up for our

more advanced Junior Cyclones program.

Equipment required, but not provided, includes: hockey skates, helmet

with cage, elbow pads, shoulder pads, hockey pants, shin pads,

hockey socks, gloves and stick. Jersey, jock shorts, mouth guard and

neck guard are encouraged.

Future Stars of Sky Rink (6 - 13 years)

Future Stars is highly recommended for skaters who want to

continue beyond the Learn to Skate program. The program includes

a 30-minute off-ice group class followed by a 60-minute on-ice class.

ADULTMonday Adult Skate Night

The 80-minute program consists of 20 minutes of on-ice free skate

time, a 30-minute instructional group class, followed by 30 minutes

of free skate time. Students are welcome to wear hockey skates or

figure skates. Skaters in hockey skates must wear a helmet. Helmet

and skate rental are included.

Adult Hockey Prep

The Adult Hockey Prep program is for skaters who already skate

proficiently in hockey skates and are new to the game of hockey.

At the completion of this class, or with the recommendation of the

instructor, players will have the skills necessary to participate in the

Game Time/Instructional Hockey Program. For an additional $15 per

Monday, skaters registered in Adult Hockey Prep may participate in

Stick & Puck group instruction. One hockey instructor leads the group

through stick position skills and practice shooting at the boards and

FIGURE SKATING

Skaters who are on a figure skating development path

Skating program. Skaters from Basic 1 to Juvenile and

above have the opportunity to advance their skills.

YOUTH FIGURE SKATING (7 - 17 years)

Sky Rink Figure Skating sessions are freestyle sessions for youth

figure skaters. Sessions are divided by test level for safety reasons.

Skaters practice on their own or in a private lesson with their coach.

Private lesson fees are paid directly to the coaches.

Skaters are welcome to skate during any/all sessions appropriate to

their test level.

Off-ice Training

Skaters enhance their skating in 50-minute off-ice classes. Classes

are led by certified group fitness, yoga and dance instructors and

may include aerobics, strength training, conditioning, stretching, body

alignment and dance. Classes are held in Sky Rink’s dance studio,

YOUTHHOCKEY

Sky Rink, the home of youth hockey in NYC, is proud to announce

the new Cyclones Youth Hockey program. The program values hard

work, teamwork, friendship and fun and is dedicated to improving

each player’s skills through the best coaching and challenging

competition.

JUNIOR CYCLONESYouth Development Program (5-12 years)

Our development programs are

designed for players who are

not quite ready to participate

at league level play. In these

instructional programs, young players are introduced to

the fundamental skills of hockey in a fun and positive

learning environment. The curriculum is based on skill-

intensive drills modified to meet the needs of beginners.

On Saturdays, players are divided by ability for inter-

squad, cross-ice games in order to help develop game

experience and prepare them for the Cyclones Travel

Program.

Program Highlights

• Expanded, skill-intensive curriculum

• Cross-ice teams are divided by playing ability

• Low player-to-coach ratio

• Fun environment to meet the needs of young players

• Structured, planned practices with little down time

• Goal of player progression is to develop and improve

skill level over the course of the season.
