PROGRAM TO PROGRAM ARTICULATION AGREEMENT with Respect to Applying the PRE-PROFESSIONAL CRIMINAL JUSTICE Associate of Arts Degree Program Towards the SOCIOLOGY MAJOR Bachelor of Science Degree Program Between NORTHWEST IOWA COMMUNITY COLLEGE (NCC) and SOUTH DAKOTA STATE UNIVERSITY (SDSU) I. Parties The parties to this agreement are South Dakota State University (SDSU), Brookings, SD Northwest Iowa Community College (NCC), Sheldon, IA. II. Purpose The purpose of this agreement is to: A. have a signed agreement that addresses the varying needs of students and complementary nature of the institutions' programs; B. provide increased educational opportunities for students from the region; C. extend and clarify educational opportunities for students; and D. provide NCC students who have completed an A.A. degree in Pre-Professional Criminal Justice an opportunity to earn a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Sociology. Ill Academic Program A. Upon successful completion of the major requirements specified below, SDSU will accept up to 60 course credits from the A.A. degree in Pre-Professional Criminal Justice for students majoring in history. Students must successfully complete the A.A. degree in Pre-Professional Criminal Justice from NCC prior to transferring to SDSU for this agreement to apply. Students must meet all South Dakota Board of Regents policies and university graduation requirements in order to receive a degree. B. with Respect to Applying the PRE-PROFESSIONAL CRIMINAL JUSTICE

Associate of Arts Degree Program

Towards the SOCIOLOGY MAJOR

Bachelor of Science Degree Program

I. Parties The parties to this agreement are South Dakota State University (SDSU), Brookings, SD Northwest Iowa Community College (NCC), Sheldon, IA.

II. Purpose The purpose of this agreement is to:

A. have a signed agreement that addresses the varying needs of students and complementary nature of the institutions' programs;

B. provide increased educational opportunities for students from the region; C. extend and clarify educational opportunities for students; and D . provide NCC students who have completed an A.A. degree in Pre-Professional

Criminal Justice an opportunity to earn a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Sociology.

Ill Academic Program A. Upon successful completion of the major requirements specified below, SDSU will

accept up to 60 course credits from the A.A. degree in Pre-Professional Criminal Justice for students majoring in history. Students must successfully complete the A.A. degree in Pre-Professional Criminal Justice from NCC prior to transferring to SDSU for this agreement to apply. Students must meet all South Dakota Board of Regents policies and university graduation requirements in order to receive a degree.

B. Requirements to be completed at SDSU to earn a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Sociology are outlined below.

System General Education Graduation Requirements (SGRs): minimum 30 credits required of which 30 credits are normally completed within the A.A. in Pre-Professional Criminal Justice at NCC. If any of the requirements noted below as met at NCC are not completed at NCC, then the student will need to complete these requirements at SDSU or by transfer of approved equivalent courses.

1. Goal #1 Written Communication (6 credits, met at NCC) 2. Goal #2 Oral Communication (3 credits, met at NCC) 3. Goal #3 Social Sciences/Diversity (6 credits from two disciplines, met at NCC) 4. Goal #4 Arts and Humanities/Diversity (6 credits from two disciplines, met at NCC) 5. Goal #5 Mathematics. (3-5 credits met at NCC) 6. Goal #6 Natural Sciences (6 credits from approved list in SDSU Catalog) 7. Globalization requirement: (met at NCC) 8. Advanced Writing requirement: (3 credits from approved list in SDSU catalog)

SDSU's Institutional Graduation Requirements (IGRs): 5 credits 1. IGR Goal #1 First Year Seminar: UC 109 (2 credits) 2. IGR Goal #2 Cultural Awareness and Social and Environmental Responsibility: (3

credits from approved list in SDSU catalog)

College of Arts & Sciences Requirements: 1. At least l 0 credits of natural sciences: at least two laboratory science courses to

complete the goal; at least two different science disciplines to complete the goal a. Satisfied by SGR #6 coursework and science from NCC

2. At least 33 credits must be from upper-division (300 level or higher) courses. 3. A minor or second major or teaching specialization: Satisfied in full by completion of

Total minimum number of credits at SDSU: 60 *** Transfer credits from NCC: 60 Total credits required: 120 *** Additional transferable general education course credits could be completed at NCC, and would reduce the number of general education credits at SDSU. However, no more than 60 credits total can be transferred from NCC to SDSU.

Additional requirements: a. Students transferring from NCC must have a cumulative GPA of "C" (2.0 on a 4.0

scale). A minimum GPA of 2.2 is required for courses in the SDSU sociology major. Any course required for the SDSU sociology major taken at NCC with a grade below a "C" (2.0 on a 4.0 scale) must be retaken at SDSU. No SOC class may be used for the major AND the CJUS major.

b. Waivers: 1. Associate degree seeking students may be exempted from the proficiency

examination requirement by meeting the following conditions. a. Earn a Composite score of 24 or higher on the ACT examination

administered by ACT Inc. (residual ACT test scores may not be used to establish a waiver); OR

b. Earn a verbal-mathematics score of 1090 or higher on the SAT; OR c. Meet the ACT College Readiness Benchmarks by meeting or exceeding

each of the sub-scores below: 1. Reading - 22 11. English - 18 111. Mathematics - 22 iv. Science Reasoning - 23

d. Testing Requirements: 1. To earn a waiver by relying on individual ACT sub-scores, students

must meet or exceed all 4 sub-scores listed; 11. Students must achieve the necessary scores on the ACT or SAT prior

to their initial entry into a regionally accredited postsecondary institution (postsecondary enrollments for dual credit, concurrent credit, or Advanced Placement do not count as enrollments for the purposes of this waiver process);

iii. ACT & SAT scores must be recorded at a postsecondary institution within five years of taking the examination; OR

2. Student earning an Associates from a regionally accredited postsecondary institution in the United States (or those institutions accredited through an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education - Board of Regents Policy 2:5 Transfer of Credit) may be waived if they earn an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science

IV. Obligations Both parties agree to confer with each other on a regular basis regarding changes in curricula involved in this articulation agreement.

V. Modifications This agreement may be modified from time to time by the South Dakota Board of Regents and Northwest Iowa Community College. Modifications may not diminish the entitlements enjoyed by students who have already attended classes delivered under the terms of earlier versions of the agreement, except in rare instances in which retroactive implementation of modifications may be required to comply with accreditation standards or to conform to professional licensure requirements.

VI. Effective Date of Agreement This agreement will go into effect at the start of the Fall 2016 semester term at NCC and SDSU.
